> Allyn Custom Woodworks has done custom cabinetry for us in our home and when we recently moved to an apartment. Their work is meticulously planned and executed. They understand the needs of their clients, and provide outstanding customer service. Jobs are completed on time and within budget.

> I picked the right company to design and install my new kitchen. I could not be happier. The workmanship, attention to detail, follow up, guidance with picking the granite slab and other parts I wasn't familiar with was the level of support I expected and received. The finished product met and exceeded my expectations. I redid my kitchen because i am planning to stay in my house (not to sell it) and this is a kitchen with the quality I can expect to live with for a long time. They are pleasant people to do business with, were conscientious about taking care with my home and furnishings, and treated me with the respect I would expect from professionals. I would highly recommend them for any project they were willing to take on and I wish I had another project for them to tackle.

> Roger Gregory did an outstanding job of designing, building, and installing built-in shelves and cabinets for my books, TV and CD/DVD player. He was quick to understand my needs, flexible about making design changes, arrived for meetings promptly and was unfailingly pleasant and courteous. The quality of his craftmanship was exceptional. He and his assistant Willie paid attention to every detail during installation. Their work was meticulous. It was clear that they both set high standards for themselves during every step of the project. I could not be more pleased with the work they did and would not hesitate to recommend Allyn Custom Woodworks.

> We used Allyn for all of our kitchen and butler's pantry cabinetry and it turned out beautiful. Roger had great suggestions on how to take our kitchen from good to great. We are loving our cabinets!

> Superb custom cabinetry! The work involved custom built-in display cabinets with lighting, bookshelves, and recessed TV --the works for a large space. Very professional with great customer service and attention to detail. The end result exceeded expectations.

> I am a home builder and have worked with Roger Gregory for over 6 years. He designs and installs built-in furniture including desks, book cases, fireplace mantels, cabinets and homework stations. He is very personable with my clients. He listens well and designs in accordance with what the client wants for a reasonable price. Together we have worked on several furniture grade built-ins so that the end result is beautiful and functional. Roger's work is one of the many reasons all of my homes have won awards.

> Excellent professional cabinet work and installation, and great to work with as well. Roger and company are now working on a more extensive project for another client, bringing my designs to life.

> Amazing custom cabinetry and amazing customer service. ACW did base and wall cabinets for my kitchen and basement bathroom (see photos). Loved the work so much that I am having them do my first level bathroom vanity.

> Had thought about having my tiny galley kitchen redone for a few years, but couldn't seem to find the right cabinets. Saw a ton of samples through different retailers - nothing was quite right, and most were not well constructed, in my opinion. I decided to hire this company after seeing a kitchen with their cabinets and was impressed with the quality and craftsmanship. We ended up doing an entire kitchen renovation with Allyn, including removal of a wall (to be replaced with a peninsula), new hardwood floors, replacement of plumbing and walls, installation of back-splash, and of course my beautiful cabinets.
>
> My home is older and nothing is standard. The custom cabinets we received surpassed our expectations. The installation was done in a very precise manor - they were leveled accurately. The fit and finish of the cabinets is excellent. They are more like fine furniture than cabinets. I have gotten nothing but compliments from guests and visitors. Wish I could post before and after pictures.
>
> Working with Roger was very easy- he was accessible and pleasant. His installers were neat and clean and quick. He had a lot of great ideas for lay out that were spot-on.
>
> We are completely happy and 100% satisfied with the quality of work and customer service.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Just lovely!** *(in Photo Questions)*

What are kitchen dimensions--length and width. As well--what is width from counter to island? Thanks! Was this a renovation--opening up kitchen to diningroom? I have a similar layout.

A: I too would like to know the kitchen dimensions.

**Q: Need help creating the "WOW" factor.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I love our room, very open floor plan works great for entertaining, but I walk in and know something is missing. I've combined traditional with some contemporary and antiques sprinkled throughout. Please help me "punch" this room up.

A: Love that stone wall!

How about highlighting its earthy feel by installing rustic floating shelves? Either lined up, 12" from wall and center piece, or offset.

Thick living edge black walnut or distressed western cedar slabs come to mind. Not too many.

Hate to say it but the current shelves flanking the tv feel "slight". Need something burly to work with the stone. Maybe a thicker piece of walnut under the TV as a center piece.

**Q: Need help with kitchen renovation** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi,
I am renovating my kitchen and cannot decide on the cabinet colour. I want to use Ikea, and I like the new Sofielund line, but I'm afraid it's too cold. I want to avoid grey or white for the tiles. I need to put porcelain or other tiles. The Adel medium brown - see 1st cabinet in 3rd pic - seems too orange. I am open to white as well, and even brown-black. I am not getting wall cabinets above the range, but a new window somewhere to the left, above the peninsula. There is another base and wall cabinet near the fridge, on the opposite side, plus a high cabinet. The rest of the layout stays the same - minus the clutter and the puppy crate, of course.

A: Getting rid of the soffit above the wall cabinets will make a huge difference.

If you go with ceramic tiles in the kitchen, make sure the floors are very rigid. Nothing worse than cracked tiles and missing grout on a year old floor. I am a fan of hardwood floors in a kitchen. Its a little easier on the feet, a little warmer and if you drop something hard/heavy on a hardwood floor it adds "character" as opposed to a crack!

**Q: From empty room to luxurious master bath suite!** *(in Before & After)*

My clients were in desperate need of a master bath retreat, so we transformed a non functioning empty room into the bathroom of their dreams. Would love to hear your thoughts on the dramatic transformation!

A: I get the traditional aesthetic of flush inset doors. Full overlay, frameless, my favorite.

**Q: Kitchen color help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My kitchen and attached sunroom has lots of wood but for our kitchen renovation I want to do walnut cabinets with light Caesar countertops and white upper cabinets. Also I want to make the window larger. My question is will darker walnut cabinets work with the wood around my sunroom windows? Would white kitchen work better (not our first choice) Thank you for any help and suggestions!!

A: Hmmmm, tricky. Looks like your inspiration pic shows a clear water based finish, which on Walnut tends to look grayish.

I am a fan of bringing out the grain when using Walnut. Either by using an amber tinted water based conversion varnish or a traditional oil based CV. The latter looks better but is not "green".

If it were mine, I'd go medium brown stain with Shaker full overlay cabinets. The light floors will look great with stained cabinets as opposed to the clear/gray tone of the provided pic.

What sheen do you like?

**Q: Need help with where to place the TV.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We just bought this house and are converting to a more open floor plan with pretty traditional decorating. The dry walls on either side of the brick wall will be minimized. The center of the room is the center of the current brick wall. I would like to keep the fireplace and the hearth. Should we drywall the rest of the wall other than the fireplace and center TV? Help??

A: lol

Being a cabinet maker, I am always in favor of the built-ins!

Unfortunately, the photo doesnt tell enough about the room to suggest anything other than what was requested by the original poster. For some, a TV over the fireplace is a non-negotiable.......you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink! :-)

In the interest of full disclosure, I learned the hard way. The painting currently over my rustic, stone raised hearth fireplace, with distressed, wormwood mantel, conveniently hides the electrical outlet and $1000 worth of structured wiring that I ran to my original television location. Oops.
