Summer of 2021, last year of the warranty, I was housebound due to an injury. Summer 2022, I entered the shed and was shocked at the amount of water damage there was in the shed. The floor, the door and all horizontal boards from the roof line down. None of the corners, window frames and door frames were sealed. Sunlight was visible through most of the horizontal boards and knot holes. I contacted the company July 11th, 2022 and eventually dealt with Mr. (Sensitive Information Hidden) Harvey, President and CEO of the company. He insisted that I had an automatic sprinkler system on my property which was causing the problem. I do not. Sheds are purchased to store and protect items and the fact that it leaks as much as it does is very disappointing. But more so, even though the warranty was past, the president of the company did not address the problem and stand behind his product. The theory is that the cedar was not seasoned and over a period of 2 years dried after installation and shrunk creating gaps large enough that the sunlight was visible through the horizontal boards allowing rainwater to enter the bulding. The theory on the cracked window, it fit snuggly in the frame and as the shed settled it put pressure on the glass and it cracked. Mr. Harvey offered to replace the window for $490.00. I declined, he did advise me however to “go to any local hardware store, purchase caulking and have it installed between the pieces of siding”. . Eventually, after 37 e-mails and 10 months an employee came to my property and sealed all horizontal boards, windows, etc. Rainwater was still entering the building and puddling on the floor. I hired a handy man who noticed the threshold board under the door slanted to the interior of the shed. He shimmed it up and problem solved. If you wish to purchase from this company, I encourage you to negotiate a 3 year contract, the amount of time unseasoned wood takes to dry out. **Comment from Summerwood Products:** > For over 30 years, customer service has been the hallmark of the Summerwood brand. “Treat people the way that you would like to be treated” is the adage that informs our approach. > > When this client contacted us with an issue, her warranty had expired two years earlier. Nevertheless, we visited her site on a number of occasions to try and help out. > > On one occasion, there were issues with moisture even though there had been no precipitation since the previous visit. The client pointed out that there was a sprinkler head close to the building, which was the likely source of the issue. The cedar lap siding will easily withstand the elements, but not necessarily excessive amounts of water coming up from below. This was definitely an extenuating circumstance, and not something that we had encountered in over 30 years of business. > > That said, we felt like we did everything we could to help out, including caulking every single joint between the pieces of siding, and numerous other areas as well. > > Yes, cedar is an organic material that will expand and contract over time, but this is typically a part of its charm and will not affect the functionality of the design. > > Everything we do as a business is rooted first and foremost in customer service orientation. To be honest, we don’t know any other way. > > We appreciate the feedback that this client has provided; as a result of her recommendation, we have decided to increase our warranty from 2 to 3 years. This is more of a gesture than anything else, though. There are no moving parts to our buildings and if properly stained, they will last a lifetime. Since I had such a good experience I decided to purchase a kit, boy was that a bad idea. I called the day it was supposed to be delivered to find out that they had not even manufactured it which was an issue since it was already late october and the point of buying this was to protect $25000 worth of furniture. I was then told it would be ready in December. I told them this was not acceptable and they moved it to late November. As this is pretty much winter I asked them to supply some installers (which I would have paid) and as of today I still have not received a reply. I have tried to install the unit between snow storms and rain but now I am trying to get instaructions for installing the french doors I have received no response again. I understand that Covid was an issue this year but I ordered this unit in June and I believe this is extremely unacceptable. So in short their products are great if you get them to install them but if you are looking for any support I would stay away from them. I need a 25X 17 unit next year and I will be going elsewhere to ensure I am not in the middle of winter trying to get support. **Comment from Summerwood Products:** > Hi Andre, we're disappointed to hear that your second experience working with us wasn't as positive as the first time you worked with us. The only minor issue were i know my carpeters had to buy a few things there were not included nails and a few other minor things which i sont recall. One of the door metal parts was the wrong size 1 large, 1 medium so you has to ship one. But the quality was excellent and it all fit together. It did take my 2 carpeters alot longer to build than your estimate. Last minor this is i ask multible times for additional wood shelving brackets in lou of the $100 or $150 picture credit but got the check anyway. ID still like to get 6 wood shelf brackets foe more shelving. O and i had ask you to put tge windows higher on the walks which you did but then the crown molding you sent would not fit in the remaining space. That shouldnt have happened. As for a foundation, it would require an actual solid foundation such as a concrete slab. All our kits come with plywood floors and the interior is unfinished. Items such as doors and windows are upgrades. Also, we do not supply light fixtures that is something that you can add after assembly. All the windows in this kit open, except for the arch window on the dormer.
