FZAD Architecture + Design, P.C., led by architect Frederic Zonsius and designer Pamela Zonsius, has made an art of exploration--exploration of environment, style, and form to create the “right” image for each project. This image inherently takes into account the metaphysical well being of the client as well as their explicit design goals.

With an appreciation for varying applications of creative design, FZAD incorporates approachability into the process. Simply stated, the firm embraces adaptability. Every project will twist and turn as it progresses through the design process. Our firm is “multi-styled” and embraces versatility, allowing clients flexibility in achieving their project. Instead of limiting its scope to a specific style, FZAD specializes in the design solution as a solution.

> Excellent experience. Fred and his team were quick to respond and showed the sense of urgency that I was in search of.
>
> I would 100% recommend to anyone.

**Comment from FZAD ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN:**

> Thank you Tom! It was a pleasure working with you.

> As a builder in Naples, Florida, we recommend Fred and his team at Fzad Architecture + Design to anyone in the New York Metro Area, as well as anyone who owns in Naples, Bonita Beach, or Marco Island, who wants to either design and build a custom home, or wants to remodel a luxury home or condo.
> Fred understands that you want your own special place, that reflects your style and taste. It is imperative that you trust the team you have chosen to design your dream. FZAD Architecture + Design is a team you can trust and we highly recommend them.

> We worked with Fred and Pam Zonsius for a year and a half, from inception, acquisition, demolition, reconstruction and punch listing. The FZAD firm was selected amongst 21 qualified architects and designers we interviewed, including star architects. Fred was the most creative and comprehensive. He has a knack for encompassing criteria outlined by the client (us) and adapting modern alternates with the complimentary engineering. He was the most impressive. The emphasis for our design was to enhance Central Park views adn the volume of our high ceilings; this was accomplished beautifully. I'm a real estate developer in Manhattan for 35 years and must set a good example for those I live and work within the industry.
>
> The FZAD firm was able to takeoff the construction itemization and compare multiple contractors and component pricing so we could emphasize the quality in component valuations.
>
> We had Fred's talented meeting memoranda tracking Board approvals and municipal department compliance which enabled expediting.
>
> Weekly job meetings helped identify any lagging subcontractors or long lead items so that we were able to finish ahead of time.
>
> The firm was strong and I recommend them for detailed projects.

**★★★★★ — robbie467, July 2015**

> Frederic Zonsius developed a "Master Plan" for the interior renovation of our house and the addition of an exterior screened-in porch and deck. For three months, Fred worked very closely with a three-man construction team in carrying out the first phase of that plan. Based on his exceptional creative talent, wonderful personality, and the personal attention he brought to our renovation we highly recommend the skills of Fred Zonsius.
>
> Fred's pre-design emphasis on a furniture plan was very helpful in making us visualize the size and placement of architectural features. In addition, his explicit and well detailed drawings convinced us early in the project that we were going to benefit from high quality work; he listened to our ideas and incorporated them precisely into the plan. Likewise, he steered us away from ideas that did not fit our overall vision.
>
> We are very excited to move ahead with phase 2 of our master plan with FZAD!

**Comment from FZAD ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN:**

> Thank you for the kind words and your endorsement.
> Frederic Zonsius, architect

> on behalf of my wife and myself this is to recommend to you Frederic Zonsius as an Architect and Designer. Initially we had hired a local architect to "draft plans" of our new 2000 sq ft addition. However, we just could not decide whether we like it or not or why we were ambivalent about going forward with the design. However upon one meeting with Fred where he developed sketches in front of us, we knew where the shortcomings of the design were and what the resolution should be; suddenly the process was enjoyable again!
>
> Fred works within concept which once adopted all decisions down to the colors on the wall become easy to make.
>
> We would be happy to recommend him. Despite the distance from Ohio to New York we never felt it to be a problem. His resources from the New York community were extremely beneficial and it was nice to get a fresh outlook that was not local.
>
> He design not only the architectural shell but went beyond to design all built ins, moldings and finishes!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Boring patio and need help** *(in Landscape Design)*

Last year I had a concrete pad poured on the backside of my house. I’m really wanting to do something to make it look better such as a fire pit, landscape surrounding, seating, etc. The border brick is just laying there and can be moved. Any suggestions on where to put the fire pit? I think I’d rather have the fire pit right off the side of the concrete pad so it’s not directly on the concrete. Any landscape ideas?

A: one easy way to spruce up that concrete pad would be to lay a wood or stone paver pattern ontop of a pedestal system. We use Buzon USA East, they provide the pavers and pedestals as an option. Here is a recent stone installation:

For the landscaping, i would create a plant bed maybe 2-3 ft wide. and plant flowers in a way that you have continuous blooms from may thru end of summer :)

**Q: Patio help please please please** *(in Porches & Decks)*

For multiple reasons our back patio is a wreck right now, but we’re trying to come up with ideas for renovating it for less than $2k. Any ideas? Deck over the concrete, or maybe just stain the concrete? Thanks in advance! (And again, I realize it’s a wreck and I’m sorry if that upsets anyone😉)

A: Great job !

**Q: Help with brick patio refresh** *(in Landscape Design)*

Hello design gurus-
I'm looking for ideas for how to repurpose a built-in feature in the back patio of my townhouse in the close-in DC suburbs. The patio is 20' x 22' and in the southwest corner, there is a brick "raised bed" and 2' deep basin that previous owners used as a pond. There is no barrier separating the basin from the rest of the patio so it has always been a hazard.
At the moment we have ugly cinder blocks separating the basin from the rest of the patio, to ensure nobody falls in. Eventually we may rip it out but in the meantime, I'm looking for ideas for repurposing that whole corner of the patio. This is the only livable outdoor space for my family and I have two kids under 5, so looking to squeeze as much function as we can out of it (especially this summer as pools may not be an option).
Ideas I have had for repurposing the area:
-Use the raised bed and the basin for a vegetable garden
-Remove the plants from the raised bed and convert the area into an outdoor lounging/seating area for the kids (they are both under 5)
How should we use the basin area if we do this?
-Repurpose the basin into firepit
What should we do with the raised bed if we do this?
-Convert the basin into a wading pool for the kids
Pretty sure there's no way to do this that's both safe and sanitary but if anyone has ideas, I'd love to hear them.
-Other ideas???
Budget is <$1k. Thanks for your help!

A: turning the pond into a sunken kids banquette is really clever! I was going to suggest making that corner a raised play area - synlawn turf. for the kids. this would simply need pedestal system under gratings and synlawn ontop. this was a project we did in brooklyn using Buzon USA East
