We are building with a tract builder, and I requested one pull on each of the 30” drawers. As you can see, the cabinet installer put 2 pulls on each drawer. I have clear documentation that we asked for one, and the builder is willing to get me new drawers. They are 30” wide and the pulls have 5” centers. I do not have the option of putting different sized pulls on the drawers. I think 2 look fine...maybe a little busy...but I originally opted for one pull to make it easier to pull the drawer out with one hand. What does Houzz think? Should I leave it? Is one 5” pull on a 30” drawer too small? A: Here's a picture of mine with one pull. I would like it either way. If you do one just 1 pull, I would upgrade to Blum. I've never seen a tract house with drawers instead of cabinet doors. That's great! My husband had to upgrade ours himself. **Q: My Kitchen Reveal - YAY!** *(in Kitchens)* I am finally ready for my kitchen reveal! I tend to be a little wordy so if you are only interested in the pictures feel free to skip down! Most the pictures are in the comments because Houzz won’t let me post them to the actual post. It took a year of reading, drawing and planning but with the help of an architect, an AWESOME GC and A LOT of advice and rework from the great people on this forum we were able to turn our closed off tiny U shaped kitchen into a wonderful open area where we can all hang out and work without tripping over each other. And we accomplished our main goal, opening it up BUT keeping part of the kitchen (specifically the sink) where it wasn’t visible from the from the front door. Demo started on May 1 and the last major piece was done July 6th. Still have a few punch list items, and we may put In some glass doors in the future, but overall it is done. Besides expanding the kitchen into the eat-in area we also swapped the sliding door and dining room window, took out another window, extended the stub wall beside the front door and closed in the original kitchen entry in the front hall, to create a more private foyer and hide the sink, fridge and pantry from the front door. We gained a utility closet in the process! We then took out the walls between the kitchen, dining room and living room and raised the 8’ kitchen ceiling to meet the cathedral in the living and dining rooms. We also put wood floors throughout the first floor, on the stairs and on the second floor hallway and replaced the railings and banisters on the stairs. Given this was a remodel we had to make some compromises and couldn’t work in all the GW “ideals”. That said, we have had as many as 4 people working in the kitchen at the same time and while there is the occasional “excuse me” it has been HEAVEN to have SO. MUCH. SPACE. We love our kitchen so much and I know that I have this group in large part to thank for how well it turned out. Cabinets are Bertch semi custom, with 1 custom piece. Can’t say enough good things about Bertch! Well made, came quickly, look gorgeous, zero defects or issues. Once small miscommunication on the custom piece (tray cabinet) that the GC is fixing for me. Bertch did exactly what I asked them too, I just didn’t exactly mean what I asked for! We had Bertch cabinets in our old house so I know they will hold up well. Sink is Blanco Silgranite Performa Super Single. It is the one with the little ledge at the bottom right. Love the sink but if I had to do it over I would get the one without the ledge. Isn’t nearly as handy as I thought it would be And it kept me from getting the offset drain which limits under sink space. Counter is White Sand granite. We looked at a lot of quartz, quartzite and granite and fell in love with this one. I know it isn’t as “in style” as if we had gone with the quartzite we were eyeing as it has some “speckles” as well as more linear movement, but it is beautiful in person and we love it. Stove is Bosch Benchmark induction. Dishwasher is also Bosch, fridge is GE and microwave drawer is Sharp. We love the appliances, especially the range, but I wish we had bought the microwave drawer without the handle and put it in a larger cabinet so it could be flush. Live and learn! On to the pictures! After many months of planning and a few for execution, I am happy to say that we are SO happy with our new kitchen and all of the decisions we made. Many of them, thanks to what I read on Houzz! A: Great job. i especially like your hood. **Q: Spec House to Craftsman Makeover - Before and after photos** *(in Before & After)* My husband and I just finished a major addition/remodel of our spec house to Craftsman home. When we moved to our location 15 years ago housing choices were very limited. Since that time we have reestablished a native prairie on our property and have established a music venue in an old barn. We anticipate remaining in our location indefinitely and therefore wanted to make changes to make this our forever home for the next 40 years. We talked about the project and worked on the plans for 7-8 years and then waited 2 years for our builder, Jon Pickel of Jon Pickel Construction, LLC. We continued to live in our home throughout the construction project including 12 weeks without a kitchen and at the height of the project living in just 2 rooms in the house. Jon and Glen were amazing to work with - careful, contentious, and meticulous. We really hated to have the project end and see them go. We are delighted with the outcome. We have been done with the project for less than 2 weeks and have already hosted 40 people for a family reunion for 4 days. Obviously we have landscaping that still needs to be done. The knobs and pulls I've selected are Prairie inspired but don't have a matching pull. Ideally it should be rectangular with strong linear lines. I saw an appliance pull on a Crowne Point kitchen but can't seem to find anything resembling it on any of the websites I've checked or googled for. Anything that could point me in the right direction would be welcome. These are the pulls from the Crown Point site with the linear design. This is the pull I am using and it has the strong linear lines. I'm not wedded to the appliance pull but I think it would work and I haven't seen anything else that is better. A: Beautiful kitchen. Love your door and drawer fronts! **Q: Lack of storage - what can I do?** *(in Organizing the Home)* We have recently bought a house and the kitchen is so poorly laid out. We have to keep the washing machine, dishwasher and sink on the same place but would move the fridge... although I can't see why that would help. I plan to paint the cupboards, get a new worktop (or sticky back plastic it), and a new light fitting. What can I do to utilise space though? I was thinking of getting a pot hanger and hanging it from the ceiling above the table so that at least frees up one cupboard so the oils can go in there. The cupboard by the table has to stay as it holds the electric meters. I'm thinking just shelves by the table although don't want it looking cluttered.
