We moved into our house 2.5 years ago and beyond immediately painting, we decided to live in it for awhile to see how we ultimately wanted to use the space. When we decided it was time to start purchasing furniture and decorate our family room/dining room, I was lost and intimidated. My husband suggested hiring an interior designer and at first I was hesitant, thinking our project and budget were too small for anyone to be interested. Judy put my fears to rest after our first meeting, and I knew she was the perfect person for the job. Judy took us through it step by step - from room layout options, palette selections, fabric choices, furniture selections, rugs, and accessories. She is knowledgeable and really listens to her clients. We have young children and 3 cats, so all of her suggestions were not only aesthetic, but functional and practical for our everyday living. She is also one of the easiest and nicest professionals I have ever worked with. My husband and I are probably a designer's worst nightmare, we have trouble making decisions and a tendency to overthink everything. She was also mindful of our financial constraints and helped us to save money along the way. For example, she was on vacation in Vermont when she saw a small rug she thought would look great in our hallway. She emailed a picture and was able to buy it for us at a discount. She also "shopped " out of our basement so we were able to use bookcases that work well with all our new pieces. I think the total cost was less than $12,000 including her reasonable fee. Judy designed several layouts of the room and pointed out the features of each. She showed us how to transform a great room with more intimate layouts that truly utilized the focal points of the room.. We recently moved to another house and sought to use our existing furniture and accessories. Our former house had a very different layout. So rather than designing a new space I asked Judy to look at what we have, how we set it up in the new house and to give us suggestions on how to make it all work better. She toured the house, asked many lifestyle questions and thoughtfully gave her designer perspective. She praised what she felt was working well, gave ideas to tweek things to make them work better and offered ideas that we can use in the future to maximize our space. She addressed many of my concerns and gave advice that did not involve spending a lot of money. She even went through our artwork/pictures and gave advice on where to place them. She listened, offered her opinion and was so pleasant and professional. Judy wrote up a detailed description of the ideas we discussed and offered three detailed drawings of our family room layout. A: Glad you like it! The wall color is In Your Eyes by Ben Moore. It’s a very very pale turquoise. **Q: Cabinet Glass** *(in Photo Questions)* Could you tell me the name of the glass used in these cabinets please? A: I'm sorry I don't have that information. The homeowners and contractor worked with a local cabinet maker to create this built-in which duplicates glass from the original part of the home. **Q: Paint color** *(in Photo Questions)* What color is the wall Paint? Beautiful! A: Thank you! This is Ben Moore’s Gray Owl. Very pale gray. **Q: Stair stain** *(in Photo Questions)* Would you please tell me the handrail stain? A: I’m sorry, I don’t have that information. The homeowner and contractor made that decision on the job site. If I were to guess, I would say that there is no stain, just a sealer. The table was custom made by a cabinet maker in Boston. I think the chairs are from West Elm. The fabric is an oatmeal colored linen weave. My grandparents' kitchen was knotty pine and our son is looking at homes in an area where knotty pine was the "go-to". I just hated the thought of not leaving it!
