We started with small ideas for renovating a house built in 1982 that had never been updated. Tim took time to get to know us and understand how we wanted to live in our home. Then, he starting drawing. He envisioned things, including creative uses of limited spaces, that we could never have dreamed of. When we decided on a plan, he helped us choose a builder, and then worked tirelessly with that builder to bring our plans to life. When either structural or budgetary issues arose, Tim helped us find more workable solutions without giving us the feeling that we were settling for something less. On the business side, Tim was a consummate businessman with timely billings that were detailed and very reasonable for the work delivered. In the end, we left the "small ideas" behind and gutted our 1982 house. From start to finish, Amy, and everyone at Hagan, were so easy to work with- very professional, easy to work with, responsive and really understood what we wanted to do. They worked with us to bring down the cost of the project when it was initially above what we wanted to spend. Amy was incredibly patient and detailed with us as first time renovators and answered all of our questions. Can't recommend Hagan Architects enough! We interviewed several firms, and I can echo the comments of other reviewers that Tim Hagan and Amy Higgins understood what we wanted better than anyone else we talked to. We needed an architect that (a) could create a design that would double the square footage of our home while staying true to the look and feel of the other homes in our neighborhood, and (b) had the technical expertise to plan every detail from the bottom up. Throughout the process, Hagan Architects provided invaluable guidance that enabled us to make well-informed and confident choices. We were on a very tight budget, which they took into consideration in every element of the design, proposing solutions that were both elegant and cost effective. Having a 1924 Craftsman Bungalow that had become both functionally obsolete and much too small for our growing family, the design challenge was to make the house large enough for us, but also make it look as if it hadn't been renovated. And the stains for each? A: Hi. Thanks for your question. The floors were existing oak floors that were a mixed cut, which we stained dark - I think the stain was Minwax "Jacobean." The walls were new, rift-sawn white oak.
