For some context, we purchased my childhood home from my parents. A 1908 classic in Kirkwood, it needed some TLC. Dana was a breath of fresh air from the first phone call and an absolute pleasure to work with. He connected us with Liz Basler at Castle Design and together they helped bring my "if you give a mouse a cookie" home renovation to life. The team transformed the main floor of our house, respecting the historical feel, while also bringing in timeless modern luxury (like lighting - if you have an old home, you know). Coffered high ceilings, classic wallpaper, a bright and functional kitchen, new hardwood, matching trim (to the original), resurfaced fireplace, and discovery of original built-ins are just some of the features. What was once a walled off, disjointed bottom floor now flows and functions exactly how our family needs. As a family that entertains often, I waited to write this until after our first big gatherings of the year. The house was a smashing success. As with any quality remodel - all of the detail from the existing first floor space continues seamlessly into the remodeled 2nd floor: door profiles, baseboard and casing profiles, vintage door hardware, cabinet styles, stain colors, plaster patterns, tile finishes, etc. The designer and architect did an incredible job of optimizing the space by the use of multiple pocket doors, and building cabinetry into the sloped ceiling and walls. The designer did a masterful job of implementing the use of light and color to enhance the space through an advanced lighting package, rich and vibrant wall coverings, incorporating an advanced yet complimentary lighting package, and a custom sectional wooden blind system for the massive radius window set in the master bedroom. Also, it looks antiqued with flat finish. Please comment as best you can. Thank you. A: I would love to share that information with you, but we custom mixed the two color shades of these cabinets to specifically meet our client's vision. Between the rub through, the base coats, and the crackle finish we applied six coats to these cabinets. **Q: Ceiling height** *(in Photo Questions)* How high is the ceiling? A: There are varying heights within the space, but we designed the ceilings so that in the most active areas there would be between 8' and 8'6". **Q: I love this door! Can you tell me where it was purchased? Thanks!** *(in Photo Questions)* A: It's a "one-of-a-kind" custom door. The design was a collaborative effort with the custom door manufacturer, Scobis Doors in Chesterfield, MO, the forged iron blacksmith, Eureka Forge in Pacific, MO, our client, and Lorrien Homes. **Q: Shower Niche** *(in Photo Questions)* Beautiful shower! How are the edges of the shower niche finished? Is it a schluter? A: The two best alternatives for finishing out the niche edges are a bullnose piece of the primary field tile, or a complimentary piece of pencil trim. In this instance, we used a pencil trim - known as a "somerset" at The Tile Shop where we sourced the tile. **Q: Love the cabinet doors!
