**★★★★★ — Stanley Ridge, April 2018**

> Bryan Anderson was a pleasure to work with in designing our cabin in the South Park region of Colorado. What an exciting time and a pleasure. The SALA team was nothing but spectacular in helping us realize our dream of a vacation home in the mounts. We have enjoyed countless days at the cabin and created great memories. Thank you to the entire staff that worked on the project.

**Comment from SALA Architects:**

> Michael thank you for sharing your experience of working with SALA! Your dreams and Bryan's design work formed into a spectacular space. We're so happy you're enjoying your cabin!

**★★★★★ — captainjoan, Sept. 2016**

> Jody did a fantastic job of evaluating my home exterior to recommend house and trim colors. She had several creative follow-up ideas for exterior lighting and recommended materials for repairing some of the trim, also. She included detailed paint finish and manufacturer specs. This consultation was very inexpensive, and I am so glad to have benefited from her expertise.

**★★★★★ — Ridge Construction LLC, April 2016**

> We were honored to work with Dale Mulfinger at Sala Architects, as the builder, on a recently completed custom home in Minneapolis. Maximizing the use of space in this not so big house was a design challenge which Sala managed creativity and purposefully. I would highly recommend Dale and the Sala team to anyone looking to design or renovate their home

> We worked with Eric Odor to help us transform the exterior of our home from a carved up bungalow into an elegant Modern Prairie style that would not look out of place in our traditional neighborhood. After working with several other Architectural firms without success - Eric nailed it on the first go. At our second meeting - his renderings brought tears to my eyes. He is a genius with design and very, very gifted. Thank you Eric! \[shortly after we worked with Eric we bought a sailboat and that changed everything. We decided to wait on the house at this time in lieu of a 2 yr sailing adventure in the Caribbean - but when we do decide to move forward Eric will be the one we have help us do it\]

**★★★★★ — sissy49 Shopa, Oct. 2013**

> I worked with Wayne Branum out of Sala's Stillwater office and found it to be a great experience. Wayne listens to you and brings beautiful ideas and great skill to the table. Working with Wayne was a collaborative process that resulted in so much more than I ever envisioned.... A stunning house, true to it mid-century roots, with a hint of a Japanese aesthetic. Plus, the process was fun!

> We’re excited to be working with Eric Odor of SALA Architects to remodel our long-neglected, cramped cape cod in a spot we love. After years of deliberating about whether to move or stay, we called Eric and shared our hopes for a home that fits the older neighborhood but lives larger by adding smart square footage, better connects us with the outside, and fills our rooms with light. His design achieves all of this and more, surprising us with ideas we didn’t know we’d wanted, but to which we’re now completely attached. Our home will be a beautiful mix of the old cape with a fresher, contemporary spirit for how our family really lives.

**★★★★★ — Vujovich Design Build, Inc., May 2013**

> We worked with SALA Architect David O’Brien Wagner, as the contractor, to improve the function, flow, and feel of a clients’ 1922 Dutch Colonial kitchen and family room space. David’s designs were unique and beautiful, yet practical. The functionality of the team (clients, architect, and contractor) was symbiotic and quite fun. We enjoyed the project and are quite proud of the end result.

**★★★★★ — Partners 4, Design, Nov. 2012**

> We have had the pleasure of collaborating with SALA Architects on multiple projects. Each time they have brought something fresh to the table and are constantly thinking outside the box. They also have an innate attention to detail and are great at communicating. Overall, they have been a pleasure to work with.

  - Description: This whole-house renovation was the third perennial design iteration for the owner in three decades. The first was a modest cabin. The second added a main level bedroom suite. The third, and most recent, reimagined the entire layout of the original cabin by relocating the kitchen, living , dining and guest/away spaces to prioritize views of a nearby glacial lake with minimal expansion. A vindfang (a functional interpretation of a Norwegian entry chamber) and cantilevered window bay were the only…

  - Location: Minneapolis, MN
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: Designed by Bryan Anderson This kitchen renovation was driven by a desire to create a space for semi-formal dining in a small eat-in kitchen. By removing an imposing central island with range, and expanding a perimeter dropped soffit, we created a well-proportioned space in which to center a table for gathering. The expanded soffit cleaned up awkward angles at the ceiling and implies a thickness to the wall from which the kitchen is carved out. Small, flexible appliances enable full cooking pote…

Solid concrete walls at the poolhouse give way to timber trusses that in turn exit the building to form a trellised outdoor terrace. The buildings morph from solid to void, containment and release. A vine-covered wire fence that surrounds the pool connects the poolhouse and the backside of a garage. A simple cube-shaped mechanical house sits quietly at an end. A minimal timber stair at its sid…

  - Description: This home's original cedar siding was rotted and missing in places, while the original garage was leaking and near collapse. The owners approached the design team with a desire to replace the home's siding and build a new garage that would accommodate both of their cars and allow them to finally be able to open their trunks. In addition, they asked that the garage be naturally daylit and to fit with the legacy of James Stageberg's design. The new garage exterior retains a familiar form to the ho…

  - Description: This house was created for a couple long enamored with the picturesque barns of New England. It is set into the rim of a stone cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. At 5,500 square feet, the house is quite spacious. But the masses of the house, linked by a green roof, are discrete pieces. The rooms within them are of intimate scale. The complex of familiar, barn-like forms beckon the visitor to an engaging entry at the base of the silo, which contains a stair connecting all four levels and culmin…

  - Description: This charming Tudor home was in need of some “freshening” up in order to update it and present a brighter street appearance. The interior spaces required redesign in order to meet our client’s needs. Several design ideas were presented to the owner’s for their consideration for each area of the home and we refined the design together. As part of a whole house renovation, we transformed the kitchen and replaced an awkward den with a new light filled stairway that welcomes you down to a newly desi…

## Community Q&A

**Q: what colour blue?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Looks great, could you share the colour
Thanks

A: Hello Phil - the color is a custom color mixed for this project from Sherwin Williams paint. If you're looking for a premixed color that is close to this one, Naval is a good choice.

**Q: i would like to know how the roof in "Rooftop Sauna" in minneapolis** *(in Photo Questions)*

was sealed to be able to plant on it?

A: Hello James,

Green roofs, and intensive green roofs being a fairly common technique there are many diagrams of green roof assemblies available on the internet. Those diagrams can explain the layers more clearly than it would be to write them out. The prairie landscape for this green roof system comes from a company called Omni Ecosystems, from Chicago, IL.

**Q: Love the design. What was the cost per s.f. to build?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I am looking to build a similar size project for myself and was curious about the cost per s.f. especially as it pertains to going LEED.

A: Hello - thank you for the question. Urban Green was constructed about ten years ago at $215/sf in Minneapolis, MN.

**Q: love the fireplace** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would love to know where you purchased the fireplace. Thank you!

A: Hello, thanks for your question! The metal surround is custom made by a local metal fabricator and has a gas fireplace insert behind it.

**Q: Flooring Used?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I’m interested in the flooring type and color? Nice!

A: The flooring here is Teragren fused strand Bamboo, the color is 'Caramelized'. Thanks!

**Q: Is the flooring concrete?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Flooring

A: Yes - the floor is polished concrete. Thanks for your question!
