**Q: Help! Which granite to choose?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am trying to narrow down the granite choices for our kitchen.  I'm trying to decide between Tropical brown and New Venetian Gold.  We have white cabinets being installed and natural oak floors. We also have white applinces. I've attached a picture of the progress so far.  Would Tropical brown be too dark?  I don't like busy granites. Must pick today as the contractor is ready to cut the granite.  Thanks for your help!!!

A: I didn't read every single post here but it seems like everybody is going with the same colors. I like my house to look simple but not so simple that it has only two colors in my main features. I would suggest going with something a little more colorful. Instead of a brown go with a blue tone. grey- blue would work really nice to compliment and allow the wood floor to stand out on its own instead of melt away with counter being in the same color scheme. The warm and cool will balance each other out and make your kitchen feel serene. Just a thought to add to the many listed. You don't necessarily have to go with a speckled look either a solid would look beautiful.

**Q: How do I unify the exterior of my house?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My house has three different textures on it. Brick on two sides, and stone and cedar siding on the rest. The siding is the black part around the front door. I would love to paint the siding (currently black) white, but I would still have the dilemma of the three different textures. I am open to ANY suggestions, small or big! We also plan to add a fence/gate around the front porch as well as bulk up our posts with trim etc. Basically, I want the house to look unified and purposeful. Right now I feel like it was built with leftover scraps! haha

A: I dont like the idea of white siding for your home either. I think there is too much that would have to change to white to have cohesiveness like the windows. I would go with a light brown shade. Beige or tan type of color.

**Q: What style is my house and What Colors should I paint the body and Trim of my house?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I would like to paint this house, but I want to pick the appropriate colors for it's era and style. I was also wondering if I should paint it at all. I appreciate any suggestions!

A: I agree with ioroca about the color of the home. It looks more like a cottage to me. I would want to change the color to something gray toned or tan. Your windows are white so to balance it out I would make the trim around the garage white and wherever else the trim encases things. You may find that you would want to do the overhang on the roof too depending on if it is covered by gutters. I think the balance of contrast really brings out the best in a home and if you are layering all dark or all light colors there are no features to look at. It just all mixes together and fades away into the scenery.
