It sticks out to much for my taste. How do I make the best of it? A: Try custom side tables that sit close to the bed on either side. At the right height they can hide the excess headboard a bit. **Q: simple ranch** *(in Design Dilemma)* I have been reading through the advice posts and found them filled with helpful tips and ideas. I am hoping for some suggestions on creating a more open space between kitchen and living room. I am considering turning the bright red room in pic3 into a dining room connected to kitchen by removing the wall to right of side entrance (pic1) as they share a wall. I am also considering adding a counter in front of stove area, and make far end of kitchen (pic2) a seating area with armless chairs or table. I also thought of opening staircase to basement to show exposed railings. I'd appreciate any suggestions. kitchen is approx.28' x 12', living room is approx. 13' x 19' A: Like Brickwood Builders mentioned, a structural engineer would definitely be needed to make sure all that is doable but they're fantastic ideas if so. The space already looks pretty sizeable, so once it's more open concept it will have a really dramatic effect. A paint job with a lighter colour all around will do wonders to expanding the space too. **Q: Curb Appeal** *(in Design Dilemma)* My house is UGLY. Deck needs to be STAINED, can't be replaced. What stain would look best?? We are going to replace the railings and lattice with white. What other advice do you have for me on how to improve the look of it? Are t here any apps/programs where I could visualize this? A: Shutters would make a big difference ^ As for the deck, new white railings and pickets will do wonders. We'd stain or paint the deck a cool grey. It has a really nice effect and would tie in your exterior siding and white railing well. **Q: Need help with the exterior colors for our house** *(in Design Dilemma)* After over 20 years we have decided that we've had enough of the gray exterior of our house. It is stained gray cedar (meaning everything gray - cedar, trim, porch, etc.!) ) and it has even a grayish metal roof. We live in a coastal area and we'd like to bring in some color. We'd appreciate any ideas.
