Stay away. We had a garage remodel project that was misquoted, had one missed dead line after another, old wood used for the walls, tools laying in the yard at the end of the day and errors in billing. If it wasn't for us following up on why their sub-contractors were not showing up the project would have been delayed even more. The garage doors were to be replaced in phase I of the project which was to be done by 10/22 and they weren't installed until 12/22. The company does not communicate - even with their own subcontractors. They dug a trench for moving the electrical to the wrong side of the house even though the electrician told them where it was to be placed. The electrician left 3 big holes in the wall, where he brought in the new wires for the garage. He asked us to clean up his mess. The 4 ft trench was open in our yard for over two weeks because they couldn't coordinate between when the trench was to be dug and the electrical work was to be completed - total safety hazard. We had a new concrete driveway put in and it was so misquoted by $2000.00. They tried to blame us for the wrong measurements for the driveway. The contract clearly stated that the whole driveway in front of the garage was to be replaced as was quoted for that. From the very beginning we told them we wanted all the asphalt removed, even the part that wasn't be replaced with concrete. Then they try to say we added after the fact which is false and again was misquoted. They only thing we had added to the drive way was a little walk way to the fence. Which was about 80 square ft.. Something that shouldn't of cause the $2000.00 increase. Originally there was supposed to be a drain system put in the driveway, due to run off going into the garage. When the concrete contractor got there he said he could pitch the driveway so that wouldn't happen and we didn't need the drain system. We were not told this until after they finished the driveway. Well that didn't work. They pitched the driveway towards the walk way that goes down to the house. So now it's like river down to the front door when it rains as well as water still goes into the one of the bays in the garage, The Company never came out to do a final walk through of the project. Instead of them coming out to check on the progress they would ask us if things were done. There are sides of the siding that were never "finished", company thought everything was done and some of the trim still had to be completed. It was one thing after another. This was not a complicated job - it should have never been this difficult or have taken this long. When we would reach out to them they would complain about their subcontractors working for their competitors - so very unprofessional. I hired them because they said they could work with the county to get the variances we needed and that never happened. The lack communication from Jim was the whole issue with this project. **★★★★★ — djvonder, Jan. 2016** > You wouldn't expect someone to say they were "relaxed" during their kitchen remodel but in fact, I WAS !!! I'm not saying it was a joy to have my kitchen torn out to the studs but I felt very comfortable working with JIM SMUKOWSKI at J&J Construction. He listened to what I wanted and when there was a concern, he addressed it with a smile on his face. Nothing rattles Jim. His calmness helped me a great deal. He also helped me pick out granite, explaining which impurities were acceptable and which may actually crack. He was sincere, funny and most of all, HONEST. > I am extremely happy with the outcome of our kitchen. We put an addition of a garage with an office above it. They stuck to their time frame, did good quality work and were professional, courteous and hard working. > We had an architect draw up our plans and they stuck to the plan. Our issue was that we were inexperienced at this type of project and didn't realize the additional costs of the heating/AC associated with the project that we are unsure if the architect or builder should have filled us in on. This created additional costs for us that put us over budget. Used only professional workers to do the complete job. Jim even went with us to pick out the marble tops, also all the cabinets as well. Everyone was polite and professional. Cleaned up every day after work was done. No job too big or too small for them. I would hire them back for future remodeling, possibly the bathrooms. At our first meeting, he sat with us for hours with ideas to consider before giving us his proposal. A lot of other companies never showed up, even to give us a quote. Worked well within our budget, no surprise added expenses. Even allowed me to help in some work to do by myself to save money (take stuff to the dump, so some easy painting, etc.).
