I have a sleek, modern design in my home (I do have some wood and greenery for earth elements) and love this shelf. We recently took out an outdated brick fireplace, leaving just the box in the newly drywalled and painted wall. I love the clean look of the fireplace box with the metal mantel, but wondering how that works with feng shui? Is it too much metal/cold/harshness, or does the fire balance it out? A: Hi @candiesunflowers - to truly know if it was helping or hurting the Feng Shui, we would have to know the direction it is in and what energy is present there. Fire controls metal - if that part of your home needs metal, then we don't like this relationship. If this part of your home doesn't need metal then you're okay. Wood and greenery are all wood elements. To smooth out the relationship between fire and metal, you would want to add earth (yellows, terra cotta, ceramics, beiges). **Q: Entry Stairs Feng shui** *(in Design Dilemma)* I find myself with a house main door facing stairs. How do I solve it, Feng Shui-wise? A: Hi Stefania - before you worry too much, are the stairs directly aligned with the door or off to the side? Are all of the bedrooms upstairs? If offices and active spaces are upstairs it's good that some energy is flowing up towards them. Consider floormats also when redirecting energy. It's also useful to check flying star for your home, maybe it's good energy flowing up. Depending on what's happening around the staircase you could use a mirror in another area to pull energy in - would want to have a good star there. **Q: Feng Shui please!** *(in Design Dilemma)* All help appreciated! A: Hi Champspassport - I'm sorry to hear about your engagement. Feng Shui will get you back on track fast! That being said be careful what books you read. As a consultant I tell people if they start reading about lucky charms and closing toilet lids so their money doesn't go down the drain - you've gone too far! The most quality, effective long term Feng Shui is classical Feng Shui + Flying Star. Flying star takes into account time and compass directions. Energy moves as time ticks on so we have to consider that. Simply placing two end tables on either side of your bed for a relationship isn't sustainable. I've always really liked articles by Rodika Tchi on The Spruce. I haven't found a "do it yourself book" that I recommend.
