## Community Q&A

**Q: Replacing 12mm laminate with 10mm SPC** *(in Flooring)*

I was planning on installing gaia black series throughout my home. I realizes that my current flooring is 12mm laminate + added pad. Gaia is 10mm including pad. im redoing all of my baseboards and adding taller baseboards but im assuming there will be an issue at my door casings. I had one flooring store tell me that I had to go 12mm or thicker because of my current laminate. they said you can always go up in thickness but not down. im wondering if this is this a big issue and if im truly limited to 12mm plus.

A: Good morning Meg,

We're happy to hear that you are considering our Black Series SPC for your home! While I am not an installer by any means, I do want to inform you that if you plan on replacing your flooring with any GAIA flooring, you should never add any additional underlayment aside from the recommended 6 mil black plastic for moisture protection. Any other added padding will likely lead to deflection in the floor and cause damage or even breakage to the locking mechanisms over time.

In conclusion, while we would love for you to install GAIA in your home, if you are not able to do so without adding extra padding, I wouldn't recommend proceeding with our SPC. I hope this helps!

Best regards,
GAIA Customer Care

**Q: What is the difference between GAIA SPC and eSPC?** *(in The Old House)*

Ive been looking at the colors that Gaia has, but they have a SPC option and an eSPC option. I just want a flooring that will help with sound damping, and is water resistant to spills as I have a toddler.

I went through some images and found one that I really like, but I'm not sure if the color is their torino, impala, metilda or sole.

A: Good morning Tammi,
We're happy that you're considering GAIA! I'd be happy to answer your questions.
Regarding SPC vs eSPC: To be clear, GAIA White and Red Series are SPC and our Black Series is engineered SPC (eSPC). The main differences between the two are length, width, thickness, texture, and engineered.

Length: White= 48" vs Red= 60" vs Black= 70.87"

width: White= 7.2" vs Red= 9.00" vs Black= 9.05"

Thickness: White= 6mm vs Red= 8mm vs Black= 10mm

Texture: White= High Def. Film vs Red= High Def. Film vs Black= Laser-Aligned High Def. Film w/ Realistic Texture

Regarding sound proofing & spills: All GAIA flooring is equipped with high-density IXPE antimicrobial underlayment, designed to absorb sound effectively. As Patricia highlighted, it is waterproof and ensures safety against topical spills. However, it is important to avoid letting excessive water accumulate on the floor for extended periods.
Regarding the color in the picture: The color in the picture you posted is Sole!
I hope this helps! Be sure to stop by a dealer near you or stop by our showroom to see the floors in person. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Best Regards,
GAIA Customer Care

**Q: Anyone heard of Gaia Flooring and Medieval Floors?** *(in Flooring)*

I would like to choose between Gaia Flooring Black Series Rhea in 10mm thickness and Medieval Floors Super SPC Collection Madrid in 10mm thickness. Anything else different between the thickness and the wear layer? Any experiences with these flooring materials would be a great help.

**Q: LVP- Gaia, Flooret and Provenza** *(in Flooring)*

Finally decided that LVP is probably the best choice for our home out in the country considering the dog and cats. However I'm at a loss as to what is the best quality. I love the look of Gaia Sole (Or Eyre but concerned it's dark) but I'm wondering if the Black Series is far superior to the Red Series. I don't like the colors as much though. We're on a slab FWIW. I also like Flooret in Nakan and it has a 40 mil wear layer. Not sure what the best criteria is to use for purchasing- a thicker wear layer or thicker padding as in the Black Series. Can anyone provide their experience with any of those I've mentioned? This will be going in our entire house, except the bathrooms.

A: Hello Raidergirl,

We appreciate your interest in our Gaia Flooring Products. If you are interest in having samples sent to your home our Gaia Team will be delighted to send them out to you for free.

In regards to your question about the difference between Red and Black Series.

Red Series

8mm thickness
Hand designed embossing that is registered with picture
2 Balancing LVT Sheets
Size of plank: 9“ x 60”

Black Series

10mm Thickness
Best quality of embossing with depth and definition that is state of the art.
2 Balancing LVT Sheet (made to be thicker)
Size of plank: 9.05“ x 70.87”

What separated the both series?

The physical difference of the Red and Black Series can be seen an felt.
Black Series is thicker, it has a deeper etch process to resemble the wood like textures some would prefer. The plank design is also noticeable larger. This visual can assit in making a larger space feel more welcoming and luxurious.
