> We enjoyed working with Tim and appreciated his ideas to remove walls and open the space and improve the view from the dining room. He accommodated our wishes for a large island and added storage there and along the sunroom walls. Tim helped us choose a cabinet maker who did great work and made sure our new woodwork was sleek and contemporary with built-in hardware and extra long drawers that open fully. Because our kitchen only has two short walls it was essential to maximize storage, and that was done with a built-in buffet that sits between the dining and living rooms overhanging the step down into the living area. He and his staff also worked to fulfill our wish to have a backsplash with minimal seams by using plexiglass set into a bracket on top of the soapstone. These white-backed panels reflect the under cabinet lighting well.

> We truly enjoyed working with deMx Architecture. They are talented, professional, trustworthy and always available to their clients. They helped us build our dream home and we highly recommend their firm.

> We have done several projects with deMx and have loved working with them on everyone. They have great design ideas and worked well in taking our thoughts to produce great results. Our most recent project was a carriage house for our historic home. The modern and complementary addition has been awarded for it's improvement to a historic district and infill. If you like modern design, they can do it. Craftsman and more historic needs - I think you would find the firm will impress.

 - Description: This interior renovation transformed a dated kitchen into a fresh, modern space. An existing interior partition was removed and replaced with an exposed beam to open the space while keeping spatial boundaries apparent. - Description: This interior remodel transformed a dark, dated kitchen and dining area into an open, airy, and modern space. A simple design decision to remove several partition walls drastically changed the feel of the space. It provided a visual connection to the surrounding spaces as well as brought shared light into the new kitchen. In the newly open floor plan, fresh, light materials such as wood floors and minimalist cabinetry were chosen to define the new space and complement its existing context. In se…
- [Round Mountain House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/round-mountain-house-pj-vj~41909)
 - Location: Fayetteville, AR
 - Photos: 6
 - Description: Referencing local precedents, the Round Mountain House combines modernist ideals with vernacular strategies and a linear plan to incorporate seamlessly into the Ozark landscape. Situated on the north face of a hillside, just below the crown of the hill, this house was designed for a couple of empty nesters, plus an elderly parent. The form of the house is treated as two pieces. The “main frame” consists of primarily public spaces: the carport, outdoor breezeway, the guest loft, and main living a…

 - Description: Located on a heavily wooded 10-acre site near the eastern edge of Fayetteville in the Ozark Mountains, this private residence was designed for a retired couple who planned to frequently host family guests. The 23' wide house is oriented with its 94' length running roughly northeast to southwest, allowing for tree-filtered light to enter in during the morning and late-afternoons. Due to the site's sloping terrain, the program is distributed on three levels at the northwest end, while the middle a…

 - Description: Situated on a hilltop clearing of a 12-acre site at the edge of Fayetteville, the Bakhita Ridge House, an informal home for an informal couple, sits in equipoise with an early 20th-century barn. The design employs vernacular strategies fused with the potency of modernism to establish a series of dualities, such as old/new, opaque/transparent, axial/diagonal, inside/outside, and servant/served. A narrow, compact plan (25' x 75') with long stretches of protected glass and a graduated double volume…

 - Description: The Lewis Kestrel residence embodies an older spirit with its craftsman style theme and modern open plan. The warm wood siding characteristic is brought through to the interior through the hickory floors and the extensive maple cabinetry, trim, and doors. The soft maple provides a warm and comfortable living environment while providing excellent spaces for both formal and casual entertaining. The soft wood edges and corners feel good to the touch and are pleasing to the eyes. The maple coffered…

 - Description: Situated on a two-acre site at the edge of Fayetteville, this house for a family of four utilizes a 24' narrow plan and an inverted roof truss to maximize the penetration of natural light to all areas of the house. Parallel transparencies at the front and rear of the main living space, which includes the living, dining, and kitchen areas, extends the public realm to the bounding landscape along the south and north edges of the property. - Description: The phased renovations to the 1960s mid-century modern home, designed by Oklahoma City-based architect Duane Conner, started with a redesign of the split-level staircase and entryway. The staircase was the first of many hopeful renovations aimed to blend contemporary design into the original framework. The second and most recent renovation was to the kitchen. As the primary gathering space for the family, they wanted to maintain the kitchen’s existing configuration and connection between the kit…

 - Description: The Willis Residence is a single-family house that projects a horizontal wood volume across a gently sloping terrain as it assimilates a simple form and natural materials into a predominately suburban context. The house is sited outside the eastern limits of Fayetteville, Arkansas in an area dominated by late 20th century suburban homes. It sits perpendicular to the gentle slope between two converging swales and overlooks a small pond on the south end of the property. The house is aligned with t…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Paint Color Bathroom** *(in Photo Questions)*

Beautiful home. Can you tell me the paint color in the bathroom? It looks like a grey/green.
Stacy

A: Stacy, I do not recall the specific color we used but it is more of a grey/blue rather than grey/green. I hope this helps. Thanks, Tim Maddox

**Q: what is the wood on cabinets** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the wood on the kitchen cabinets? This works beautifully with the slate floors

A: The wood is all clear finished maple. Thank you for the compliment.

**Q: Cabinets: wood used and finish?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The cabinets are clear finished maple veneered fronts with a 3/4" solid maple edge band.

**Q: What are the 4 overhead wire/lines used for?** *(in Photo Questions)*

g

A: Both pair of double wires are part of a track lighting system. In some of the photos you can see the small light fixtures hanging from the wires.

**Q: Fascinating design. I can't stop looking at it.** *(in Photo Questions)*

Please tell me the size (width and length) of the complex and also tell me where the garage is. Thank you.

A: The Bowtie house is approximately 3800 SF including the garage. The length is 95'-0" and the width is 23'-0". The garage is tucked under the main level on the north end and is accessed by a separate driveway.

**Q: What type of fireplace is this?** *(in Photo Questions)*

How is it vented and what is the source of fuel? Very interesting for a wall of windows. Quite lovely.

A: It is a gas fireplace and has a direct vent system located on the back of the unit, thus eliminating the need for a flue.
