It was originally a cozy 1958 rambler with basement but it was built perpendicular to the lake and the view! Later, it was remodeled and a second story added but the orientation of the home was never addressed. My husband and I have restored and renovated several homes but this one had us severely stumped. > Kate and her team created a schedule for every milestone. Their task seemed impossible but they succeeded. They kept flow, function, how we live, the best use of space, where to get more bang for the buck, how to make sure the interior resonated with the outdoors, and what made more sense for a house that currently made very little sense. While the focus was on the interior layout, Kate Roos considered the exterior and how to keep the facade balanced and aesthetically pleasing. We got so much out of our first floor and only had to bump out the new kitchen wall by two feet. My small, 1980s era kitchen in my 1930s era home needed a refresher. Kate asked me to narrow down my style preferences by flagging some other kitchens found on Houzz. She pulled together a few layouts, which started to incorporate key design elements (a full floor-to-ceiling subway tile wall, pot racks, a recipe book nook) which would help to brighten the space, leverage my existing "must haves" and make the most of the small size. She provided some samples of cabinet trims, backsplash tile, countertop options, knobs and pulls and paint colors based on our discussions to help narrow things down. Once we landed on a layout and all of the materials/colors/etc that we wanted, she pulled together a final design + "shopping list" for the contractors to consistently quote the construction work. Her process, which essentially finalized all of the decisions before getting bids for the construction, made things go smoothly throughout the actual construction work. Kate was available throughout for quick questions and was always fast to respond.
