> We had a great experience with Richard Landon Design. We started our journey in May of 2021, and Richard was with us the entire way through; we finished our project in October 2023. There are so many wonderful details Richard designed into the new space, details that are useful and beautiful to look at. His suggestions about each space made them warmer and more practical. I am now enjoying my new space every day. Thank you so much Richard Landon Design!

> Richard Landon was our designer when we remodeled our kitchen and downstairs in 2014. Interior walls were removed, windows added, and light now floods our previously dark house. His innovative design captured my personality and enables viewing of the gardens and the surrounding forest from my kitchen work areas. I can now chop, sauté, and wash the dishes while watching the grandkids play in the yard. When we decided to update the master bath last year, I contacted Richard for design assistance. The bathroom had some awkward angles, and I knew Richard would devise an imaginative solution. Our budget was tight, but once again he wowed me with his creative design. The bathroom is stunning; the awkward angles transformed into artistic angles, and mood lighting creates a peaceful spa environment. (Of course, the lighting changes to fuchsia when my grand daughter takes a bath.) Richard has a truly innovative approach to design. He is easy to work with, exceptionally pleasant, and listens patiently to your ideas to create a space that reflects your unique personality.

> Richard did the design for our major remodel and we could not be happier. He has a gift for seeing how to make the most of whatever amount of space you have to work with. We did not realize how limited our vision was for remodeling our home until Richard painted a picture of what it could be. We did not change the footprint of our home but it feels twice as large, more open and with a much better flow between living areas. In addition to the major improvements to our floor plan, we also enjoy the detailed practical elements that Richard recommended that make daily activities easier or more enjoyable - e.g. deeper counters/cabinets, better sink design, lighting, storage, etc.
> We also appreciated Richard's professional approach. His first advice to us was to "stick with the process" and he was extremely patient as we often took much time to make decisions (or change our minds!). He had a clear vision and knew what we would like even when we didn't know it ourselves.

> Rarely have I met someone more creative and attentive to detail than Richard Landon. He skillfully translated ideas into clear professional graphics. Richards design transformed our small kitchen into and exciting place to cook. If the installation of a custom feature needed guidance, Richard was quick to respond. We would not hesitate to recommend Richard and his highly skilled contractors who were delightful to have in our house. Please call me, if you have any further questions.

> Want to fulfill a dream; transform your space; expand your boundaries? Richard Landon is your guy!
> He’s designed two projects for me, one turning a dated, tired bathroom into a bathing oasis, and the other, transforming space by a total wall removal. He is a strong co-creative visionary, who helped me see hidden potential in a small condo. On a practical level, he is a cabinetry genius. His designs eke out and leverage the most out of any space, such as transforming a hallway into cabinets or adding depth to a drawer by extending it into wasted space. He’s expensive, but he is amazing!

**Comment from Richard Landon Design:**

> Thank you for your comments--though I would quibble about the "expensive" label. :-) I have a saying for my clients that applies, "I'm not expensive; your choices sure can be!" What is certainly true is--and I work hard at this--my clients need to justify what they are spending as a great return on their investment. During this, the second phase of the project, we opened up the living room to the views of Puget Sound! During the first phase, we were able to accomplish something "impossible" in the bathroom--gain a view from the Victoria & Albert "Amalfi" tub by elevating it on a lighted platform AND have a shower in a very small space. https://www.houzz.com/projects/3114343

> Richard is the BEST! He saw my job, had a vision I loved and has helped me along the way and my kitchen is beautiful. Because of Richards extensive knowledge and innovative ideas my kitchen transformation has been a wonderful experience. I am lucky to have found Richard!

**Comment from Richard Landon Design:**

> And Sandy stayed with the Designed by L.I.F.E. Process (as I call it), as we figured out what most mattered to her. Now, her north-facing kitchen is connected to wonderful amounts of daylight. It has more storage--and yet more open walls--than ever before! The 2'-deep dining room bump-out (under the eaves) is transforming how she uses the space and can enjoy it.

> Great design insights on our complex kitchen remodel. We ended up with a thoughtful layout with beautiful design and materials. We used red birch cabinets from Aristocratic Cabinets and premium Rainforest Green countertops, with Black Falcon on the wine/coffee bar from Denali Stoneworks. All cabinets included custom storage to our needs, chef drawer, and custom pantry. This project involved removing a load bearing wall and adding larger windows and custom sliding door up to the ceiling to bring the view in. All of Mr Landon's projects are beautiful and unique. We love our kitchen!

> Frankly folks, my husband and I would award Richard 10 stars. His abilities to take a flawed project and turn the design into magic - within the scope of doable execution - is unparalleled. We happened upon Richard and engaged with him for our lighting design yet very quickly used his extensive knowledge of all things design to save our forever home from being a dud - starting with adding a portico to the home design and "correcting" the window sizes and placements - and much more. He is able to deftly tune in to a client's aesthetics and provide excellent guidance and advice with solutions and designs that are outstanding, innovative and verging on genius. Richard is a very unique talent and exceedingly resourceful. And while a very busy professional, he will do his best to adhere to a client's schedule or, minimally, respond and let you know where he is with other projects and when he can. Richard is an exceptionally talented design professional.

> Richard Landon Design worked with us on the remodel of our mid-century ranch home into a fully redesigned, 2 story, modern. Our journey with Richard began when we consulted with him on a design for a kitchen remodel. On our initial meeting, Richard evoked from us our full set of design needs. Richard listens well and always says that all information is good. He listened al lot. We are now living in our fully remodel home and look around daily in wonder and delight. The design is the synthesis of Richard's vision and our style. Our journey with Richard was great; we highly recommend it.

> A proper design is worth it's weight in gold and a skilled designer even more.
>
> My name is Dennis Osborn, president of Carver Construction L.L.C. and I've made my living as a general contractor since 1982. In those 33 years I've come to understand that no matter the effort we put towards a project it cannot be its best without good design.
>
> Saying that, please know that It has been a privilege to come to know and work with Richard Landon. He is among the most talented individuals that I've come across in my construction career. It is not because he has been published nationally or accumulated numerous awards. It is solely based on his passion to do his very best for his clientele. This dedication shows in every project, whether a small wine glass rack or a $750,000 home transformation.

> I can't say enough great things about Richard and his designs. He took an ordinary 1984 home in Redmond and transformed it in ways no other build and design firms had even imagined. (and we interviewed nearly a dozen top firms in Puget Sound) He truly thinks in multiple dimensions and creates a space that felt elegant yet very inviting and comfortable. This is done after spending time with you to clearly understand all dynamics of the family - and then incorporating multiple clever touches for everyone. I sold my home last year (3 days and multiple offers) and know that it was due to Richards' Re-design of my home- just wish we'd done it sooner.

> We originally planned to remodel just our kitchen, but with Richard's insight we ended up with not only a beautiful kitchen, but a mud room and brand new bonus room above our garage as well. He was easy to work with and could really see the potential upon the first site visit. Richard truly spent the time to discover what we envisioned for the space, and then incorporated our requests into his plan to create an extremely functional and refreshing kitchen. It's open, bright, uncluttered, perfect for entertaining and has that outdoor feeling we didn't know we were looking for. He really paid attention to all the fine details and gave us the maximum drawer and counter space possible. As for the bonus room, Richard could instantly see that by changing the beam structure of the roof he could create an entirely new space. By adding that extra storage area and moving our laundry, the functionality of our home vastly improved.
>
> Furthermore, Richard found us the builder and worked with him throughout the project to ensure the highest standards were met. He always promptly returned our calls and willingly worked with us through our hesitations and concerns. I would readily hire him again for any future project should they arise.

  - Description: Upon entering this home, you would never know that the kitchen had been relocated and that the walls acting as a barrier from the dining room to the kitchen were not always this way. It flows seamlessly and with great connection all the way from the front entry through the family room. The home had previous remodels and an addition which made connecting all the spaces that much more challenging for the design team to make sense of. ## Community Q&A

**Q: how big kitchen area was?** *(in Photo Questions)*

How big is the kitchen area was? I like the idea of microwave countertops! Where did you put oven?

**Q: Love idea. Who is manufacturer?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: I designed the drawers, drawing them in CAD, and then sent that to the shop, Aristocratic Cabinets, Chehalis, WA, to build. Because I make my client's counters 30"-deep, I can use longer drawer guides in the box above (27") and here in the toe kick (24"). I also modified the height of the toe kick to 7"H to gain more usable storage.

**Q: What is the name of the color on the walls? TY** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The "problem" with answering your question is that timeless designs like this can have a completion date almost a decade ago. I know that I used the light tiles in the floor as a reference. With the brass mesh under the walnut counter, the color certainly had some warmer tones to it, as well.

**Q: What wood for cabinets, post and window trim? Any stain? Thanks!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Go to Ramble No More. It is a red birch kitchen with a custom-mixed stain on it to make it look like natural cherry. The advantage to you is it will not darken as much as natural cherry. Natural cherry is very photoreactive. So much so, that I warn installers to not lean anything on the cabinets or stack items with faces partially exposed. On a sunny day, there will be a notceable difference within a short time. The red birch is more dense, as well. Overall, it is a much better choice, IMHO.

**Q: What are the room dimensions?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: This project was done in 2010 and the files archived. That said, I found the cabinet order and added up some dimensions. I can tell you that the room was expanded from its original footprint and would calculate that we ended up with about 160" across the end wall and 154" down the outside/sink wall. The counters were 30"-deep with 28-3/4"-deep boxes under them and 27"-long Blum Tandem drawer guides.

**Q: Doesn't the pet have access to water 24/7?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I would think an opening would be better than a hideaway.Am I missing something? Thanks.

A: As I recall, the owner has a water dish elsewhere, as well. This arrangement was purely for during feeding time.
