> We had a bad experience with J&R doing our kitchen remodel. Our kitchen remodel took 7 months for J&R to complete. (They had approximated it would take 12 weeks.) The majority of the wasted time was unrelated to supply-chain issues, but rather J&R making mistakes and having do things over again. The electrician they used had so many excuses for delaying our job that it was laughable. Our project manager was kind but inexperienced. The project managers (PMs) are all young. We met several. On several occasions, our PM failed to communicate the plan clearly with the subcontractors. This contributed to multiple mistakes in our project including the countertop being cut the wrong size twice, a hole being cut in the hardwood in the wrong place for an AC vent, and a wall being built in a different location than planned. We had to watch the subcontractors so closely that we felt like we couldn’t leave home when they were working. The project manager from J&R was usually not present when the subcontractors were there. Even when he was present, we could not trust him to execute the plan correctly. J&R uses a binder at the worksite to communicate with the subcontractors. In our binder, some of the measurements we missing (ie- the countertop). Overall, our project manager was more concerned with keeping the subcontractors happy and “staying out of their way”, than stepping up and directing them effectively and holding them accountable.
>
> Beware: If you order white cabinets, J&R gets them from a different manufacturer/warehouse than that from which they get the colored cabinets. They are both Berch brand but the white ones are a lower quality. (We were told this directly.) And it shows. We had both white and olive green cabinets in our remodel (green on our island). Our white drawers got stuck every time we pulled them out and there were several chips in the paint before we even started using them. J&R did not tell us that we had a choice in the quality of our white cabinets during the Design process. We felt deceived. We would not recommend J&R for a kitchen remodel.

**Comment from J&R Construction:**

> Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it and will use it to improve our processes. We apologize for the communication issues and the long lead times, we are working to address the former and will continue to troubleshoot the latter as best we are able. If anything comes up during the 5 year warranty period, please contact the office at 859 225-0162 or message us through your client access portal. Again, we thank you for the honest feedback.

> I had longing for many years for an addition room built to my existing house. The long years waiting to find a professional and trusted builder has come and that is J&R Construction. I could not ask for a better professional team from Project Designer, Project Coordinator, Production Manager, Onsite Construction Project Manager, Warehouse Manager. They had demonstrated their expertises in all aspects and thorough communication with clients to ensure we all were in the same page from the design plan, facing obstacles, making changes during the construction process. The team are friendly with positive attitude that made the communication much easier. The project had completed in a timely manner as planned.
>
> My special thanks to the J&R team who executed the plan to completion; my dream addition room becomes reality!

> Invested huge amounts of time pursuing a major project for months as the scope of work increased. When nearly ready to move forward & break ground, they backed out, forcing us to start all over with a different contractor. Although we were stunned at such unprofessional behavior, we were eventually very grateful that we dodged a bullet! This company would have been a nightmare on such a big project. due to out-of-town micro-management. They only have one local guy (who seems very nice) but he had no authority to make ANY decisions. Every single time we had to meet to review or revise the scope of work as we were putting the initial project together, we would have to wait an entire month until a manager could be in town. In hindsight, we had such a problem just getting things underway, we cannot imagine how bogged down it would have become down the road. And they were more expensive that other quotes we got afterwards.

**Comment from J&R Construction:**

> Good Afternoon, we apologize that your experience With J & R was not pleasing. Our General Manager was young in the company and was relying on support staff in Lexington for all design work. Since then we have taken an office in downtown Owensboro added multiple staff and certified interior designer in-house, allowing us to become Owensboros top remodeling company with all local staff. We would like the opportunity to speak to you to resolve any grievances that you may have. Feel free to call between 8am and 5pm (270) 570-0578 Have a blessed day.

> J&R built a screen porch for us and the experience was excellent. Everyone from Jimmy, to Rick (especially - great project manager), to the designer and office staff was helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to recommend J&R and will definitely circle back to them should the need arise.

> For a project I was not looking forward to, my master bathroom complete remodel project actually turned out to be a very pleasant experience thanks to J&R Construction! From the first meeting to the final walkthrough, I never doubted choosing J&R for this project. Being a designer myself, they worked with my ideas and with their expertise, solved several design dilemmas faced when working in a small area and having a tight budget. Jimmy, Lynn and Toni got me started out on the right foot with my budget, fine tuning the layout and selections of products to be used. Josh, our project manager, kept the project going on schedule(actually ahead of schedule!), was always on time, courteous and communication with him was excellent. The subcontractors that J&R uses were polite, respectful and did a beautiful job. I could not be more thrilled with my gorgeous new master bathroom. I’ve worked with many contractors in the past and I can honestly say, they are the best I have ever worked with!

> J & R recenly completed a second story addition on our home. We could not recommend their team enough. The communication throughout the entire process was always timely and professional. When we had questions, concerns, or problems, our project manager was quick to address them without hesitation. The work was all extremely well done and J&R helped to insure we stayed within our budget. Jimmy and his team helped make what was a stressful few months away from our home as pain-free a process as possible. I would recommend J & R for any size project and would definitely use them for any future projects in our home.

**★★★★★ — Brent Ingraham, Nov. 2018**

> My project was a complete remodel of the master bath. The J&R Construction team were excellent to work with from design, selection of materials, right through the construction process. All the workmen were professional, courteous, provided a high level of workmanship and I had no worries about letting them work when I was unable to be onsite. They provided a website that allowed me to track the itemized cost of the entire project. I could use the website to make changes to my selections of lights, faucets, bathtub, etc., even changes to the design and see the costs before making final decisions. All the communications through the website were visible to the entire team thus enabling coordination in scheduling the work to be done. I would highly recommend J&R construction and would choose them for my next project.

**Comment from J&R Construction:**

> Thanks and it is a pleasure serving you and glad you enjoyed the process.

**★★★★★ — HU-10257232, Sept. 2018**

> I recently had J&R Construction do a complete remodel of my master bathroom. They did the work in a professional manner and I am very pleased with the work that was done. The people who worked in my home were professional and took their work seriously. I would highly recommend them.

**★★★★★ — Debbie Russell, Aug. 2018**

> J&R Construction recently completed a whole house remodel for me including kitchen, two bathrooms, lighting updates, flooring, and paint throughout. J&R provides an online calendar of each phase so clients know in advance what to expect daily – very important when you are living in the house with pets during the project. The J&R team did an outstanding job from start to finish. The designer walked me through the planning and selection phase, the project manager was hands-on, present each day, sometimes back 2-3 times checking on the progress. The carpenters were meticulous and detailed in measuring and workmanship when it was time to start putting the pieces back together. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results of my remodel. Owner Jimmy McKinney has put together a team of true professionals.

**★★★★★ — John Taylor, Aug. 2018**

> It went really well from the start, I had a deadline that I thought was pretty tough, but J & R Construction wasn't phased by it at all. Jimmy and Josh both came out to discuss the details with me at the property and advised me on what they recommended I do and how the options would go. Then they went back to the office and estimated the project and got me an official written estimate. The job did not exceed that estimate and they met the deadline. There were multiple elements involved, electrical, ceiling fan, removal of a garage door, drywall, flooring, vinyl siding, a window, air-conditioning unit, etc. I'm very happy with the results and I highly recommend them to my friends and family for any of their remodeling projects.

## Community Q&A

**Q: what is the color of the cabinets** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The perimeter is a warm gray paint and the island and beam are stained cherry. Sorry took a little bit, had to dig through some files and get with our designer. Thanks.

**Q: Shower info?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Could you share some specifics about the shower--tile sz and mfg--shower fixtures style/finish & mfg

A: Sorry for the late reply, we thought this was handled. The tile is from Louisville Tile and all the shower fixtures are from Lexington Winnelson, Delta Brushed finish. Thanks!

**Q: Color of paint** *(in Photo Questions)*

What color is the pInt on the wall?

A: Good morning, sorry for the very late reply, we thought this was handled. This is a pewter grey from Sherwin Williams. Thanks!

**Q: Adding kitchen pantry to existing laundry closet** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Can anyone suggest a vapor barrier idea? I have no kitchen pantry and the laundry closet adjacent to kitchen might accomodate a pantry if I get front-loading washer and stack the units. This way I can add slide-out shelves/drawers where the dryer was and have a much more functional kitchen. However, the dryer steams the closet and I don't want to ruin dry goods and, worse, create a moist, food-rich environment for pests. Can anyone suggest/show photos of a way to ensure the pantry remains dry and cool? What sort of divider might work? Ventilation? Thank you!

A: You could look into a moisture sensing exhaust fan. It would need to be vented outside also. These fans sense the moisture and come on automatically and then shut off when the moisture is gone. Other than that maybe a melamine wall between the 2 spaces or something like.
