> Our troubles with Hammer and Nail Exteriors began with the salesman, Jeff D., who charged us for full replacements of our 1950s windows and then reduced the scope of work 1/2 way through the project-- resulting in no new window frames nor interior trim being changed out while we paid the same price despite them doing less work than originally agreed. This is after waiting more than 3 months from the time we signed the contract to installation, even though we were told our project would begin in 8-10 weeks. And now, as we're having the siding on our home changed out, we've been told that the windows weren't installed properly, so they don't have the appropriate flashing or weatherproofing that is standard installation practice. No wonder we've had water coming into our family room since 2019, only 5 years after Hammer and Nail Exteriors put in new windows and siding in this section of our home! We're having to pay to have it all redone to try to make our home water-tight and fix the shoddy work from Hammer and Nail Exteriors.

> This company installed 6 windows in my apartment. It was expensive but relatively straightforward to get the windows installed. Two years later, however, and I'm experiencing an issue in multiple windows, where the top pane does not stay up. They claim they offer a lifetime installation guarantee, but I have called a half dozen times over the past few weeks and no one returns my call, despite repeated promises that a technician will get back to me within a day. They use an answering service to handle their calls and it is impossible to connect with anyone in the company itself. I don't know if this is because of gross incompetence or outright fraud (it's actually impossible to cash in on the guarantee), but I do not recommend hammer and nail.

> Purchase and installation Provia entry doors. The spokesperson and installation crew were extremely professional - courteous - knowledgable and patient in answering our questions. I would definitely contact Hammer and Nails for my next home project (additional doors and siding).

> All windows in house removed and new Marvin windows installed. Excellent experience from start to finish. I would recommend them again.

> Hammer & Nail efficiently removed and replaced 11 windows, and built out window frames as 4 of them that we wanted to be a different size. They also replaced vinyl siding and the four windows that were built out. The quality of workmanship is excellent.

> Sales agent was knowledgeable and listened to needs and offered excellent product options. I was welcomed at the office by owner and shown a selection of quality options. We agreed to a design and they replied quickly with a better option which fit budget, installation schedule, and design preference. The installation date was accurate, and the employee team completed the work efficiently, and cleaned up debris and the old window.

> I had 10 of my windows replaced by Hammer and Nail Exteriors in January of 2014. I am very happy with my windows. They look great and have already increased the energy efficiency of my home this snowy winter. I was very satisfied with all my interactions with everyone at Hammer and Nail, from sales to installation.

> I decided to have vinyl windows replaced for half my home(budget constraints) with Marvin windows. I chose Hammer and Nail to perform the work.
> Their crew arrived on time and started work, all was proceeding well but as the day wore on I noticed more guys taking a smoke break and only 1 or 2 actually working.
> I ordered honey colored interior finish & they were putting up a natural trim that I was finishing myself. For some unknown reason they decided to caulk my interior trim with white caulk, I picked this up after they completed 4 windows ruining the trim. I immediately called their office & spoke to the rep. They did replace the trim that day & finished up about 7:30pm.The Forman took me thru room by room & had me check to ensure the job was completed to my satisfaction. Everything looked good on the surface, neat, good joints, They cleaned up very well & even removed all the cigarette butts that were in my yard. I signed off on the job and relaxed for the evening.
> This job took place in August & that night it was getting really warm in my home. I'm checking the A.C. and it's running non stop. I new something was wrong. The next day I called Hammer & nail and spoke to the salesman and was told they would check to ensure the Low-E coating was ordered and get back to me. I never received a callback. They did send me an email advising they verified Low-E coating was ordered and suggested I adjust my A.C. system to allow more cool air to be fed to the rooms in which the windows were replaced. Wrong answer.
> I called the Marvin Window company & lodged a complaint with the service department. Marvin agreed to send a tech to check & determine what the issue was. The Marvin tech verified each window to factory specs. He found missing exterior caulking on every window checked and upon removing the interior trim, found no insulation between the stud wall & the exterior of the window. Basically I had a 1" to 2" gap around each window allowing hot air to penetrate and heat my home. He suggested I call Hammer & Nail immediately to have the situation corrected. Big thanks to Marvin Windows for stepping in here to make an honest assessment of the situation.
> I chose to complete the job myself. I spray foamed each window & stained the interior trim to match. All is good, but, I cannot recommend Hammer & Nail !

> Great work. Very professional when taking estimate. Price was a little high but worth it in the long run! If price isn't an issue than use them or at least get a quote.

> We had old 1950 's windows replaced with the infinity line of sliding windows. Cleaner looking, more energy efficient, safer, and easier to use. They look fabulous and fit right into the contemporary look of the house. The installers were great. They were fast, clean, courteous and professional. We will definitely recommend Hammer and Nail. They were great to work with, very helpful in our window decision making. We are looking forward to using them again for our next project. Maybe the Bi-fold doors on our pool house!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Beautiful room! Who makes the table & chairs? Thanks!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Sorry, we don't know that. These images are from our window and door vendors!

**Q: curious about the scale of this room? wall height? size of windows** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: This is a manufacturer supplied image so I am unable to provide the size of the room or windows.

**Q: More pictures?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Does anyone know if there are more exterior or interior pictures of this house somewhere? Thanks!

A: Front exterior and rear interior images attached. Please note these are manufacturer photos so I can not provide materials info beyond window and door specs.

**Q: I like the warm color of the walls. What is the paint color? Thanks** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: I do not know the wall color, but can tell you the windows are finished with the Marvin factory finish white.

**Q: What is the framing around these windows?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is this a three-stud or four-stud structure between each of the columns of windows (e.g., Jack-King-King-Jack or Jack-King-Jack)? Also, what are the dimensions of the glazing units (the center picture windows look like they are somewhere between 3x6 to 4x6)?

thanks!

A: This is a manufacturer product photo so I do not have specs on the project. I did some research, but was not able to come up with an exact answer to your questions. If you are in the DC/MD/VA area, we are happy to send a design consultant to the project site to discuss the best framing solutions.

**Q: screens** *(in Photo Questions)*

Gorgeous. What do you do about insect screens?

A: Thanks for your inquiry. Full and half screens are available with the Marvin Ultimate Double Hung windows. In order to minimize the appearance, the aluminum clad surround is available in the same clad color options as the windows. Mesh options include high transparency charcoal mesh, charcoal fiberglass, charcoal aluminum wire, black aluminum wire, bright aluminum wire and bright bronze wire.
