There is a fireplace in the middle. The art works aren't framed yet. The other walls are a soft grey and the furniture black leather. Should I go for a cohesive frame colour and width to link them together and, if so, what colour? The room at the moment is a mix of textures which is working well. The brick wall is the most rustic. The art is mostly impressionist/post impressionist and I want the art to be the star. A: From your description of an exposed brick wall I am immediately thinking you need simple frames with mats, all the same. Brick already has weight, texture and "pattern" and adding more with a variety of frames would most likely be too much. Would love to see a picture of the room, wall, and the prints you will be framing. **Q: How to tweak roman shades so they're exterior mount (not interior)?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Two bedrooms in our new house have roman shades that were left by prior owner. Shades are interior mount w/ wooden dowels in a natural canvas that will work well with the nautical look I am planning. However since the windows are low on the wall-- top of window is only about 5-1/2'!-- it would make more sense to hang the shade above the window (exterior mount), so the top 8" of the window isn't blocked when the shade is raised. When fully opened the shades extend well beyond the window sill so length will not be a problem if I change to an exterior mount but width is an issue. For an exterior mount, the shade should be as wide as the widest part of the window trim, and my shades are only as wide as the window glass since they are interior mount. Do you think I could add a wide trim on all four sides to add the width I need for an exterior mount? Any other creative ideas? A: Let us see pictures when you are done :) **Q: New recliners..help in integrate** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi everyone. Some of you may remember this room from before. My beloved red recliners have taken their last breath, and I just couldn't find two new ones in red that were comfortable and affordable....so we found these chocolate brown ones that we love. Now the problem is to integrate them into the room better. Thinking I need a different end table, lamp, and maybe a new rug or cover for my ottoman. Any suggestions much appreciated. I know if I can integrate these new chairs better, I will love them. Thanks in advance! A: Yes a cream shade will work. Once you add fabrics that have both the cream and brown with other colors, it will all start coming together. You may also add lumbar pillows to the recliners. Do a down insert and they won't feel too bulky. An earlier suggestion by MarleneM of a larger ottoman in a print is also a good one. Just make sure all the prints work well together. Post pictures :) **Q: Help/Advice on Window Treatments** *(in Design Dilemma)* Sorry for the mess, but am wondering what kind of window treatment would you recommend. It's a beach house and I'm transforming it into a vacation rental. I love the look of bamboo but would it look weird with the dark floors, ceiling beams and doors if they were a lighter bamboo/wood color? I'm afraid if I got so a shade similar to that of the dark wood, it would just be too dark everywhere? Any ideas, bamboo or not would be appreciated. Currently have the cellular blinds which I hate and think are hideous! Thanks guys! Excuse the messy photos! Still a work in progress! A: Beautiful room! It looks like those are doors, not a double window? For doors, and a rental property, I would suggest panels vs a treatment that goes up and down. Looks like you have enough wall space at each side of the door to extend pole, so when panels are open they clear the door. It's ok to do a woven shade on the window and panels on the doors. You can also do both a woven shade and panels for the window. If you want to add a bit of whimsy, look at a bamboo pole for the panels. For functional panels I would do a zip rod vs rings (see picture) because the bamboo poles are somewhat uneven and it may be harder to slide rings than on a smooth pole. I have ordered the poles from Antique Drapery Rod Co. For fabrics look at a light color, linen weight fabric. One of my fabric vendors has polyester fabrics that look just like linen, drape beautifully, and you don't have to worry about wrinkles! You should be able to find them at a drapery fabric store or through a local decorator. Let us see the finished room :) **Q: Help me pull my room together** *(in Design Dilemma)* I recently fell in love with a colourful bold area rug. I bought a couch that is an olive green that's found in the rug. And some navy velvet curtains. I need help choosing a color/pattern for pillows (the ones in the photo came with the couch are hideous and uncomfortable) and a throw blanket and some accessories. Help! A: Love the bright colors on the rug! Here are some choices you may order from Wayfair.com Love the Zanzibar with one of the rectangular bird patterns in the center or as a lumbar on a chair. **Q: can marble be reglazed as well as tile?** *(in Photo Questions)* we are buying a new house that has a very ugly black marble in the master bath. We do not have enough money to gut the bathroom and wondered what other options i might have. A: Not sure if you have real marble or cultured marble. The company I worked with to refinish this bathroom for my client will do cultured marble but not real marble. You may want to find a reputable company in your area and see what they do and what their warranty is.
