I have operated as a sole proprietor since that time. The first 12 years of my experience was providing services in the Santa Barbara area, wherein we designed and installed the landscaping at President Regan's ranch and a recreational field at Jane Fonda's ranch among others. Due to a protracted building moratorium in that area, we relocated to the Bay area in 1983. Since that time, we have received at least one award every year from the local California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA). In additon, we have won several awards from statewide competition in the CLCA. In 1991, I served as the local president of the CLCA and in 1994, served as the State president. In early 1995, I realized that I could better serve my clients if I was able to focus on their needs without the distraction of employees. At that time, I changed the name of the firm from Everett Landscape to EvLand LLC. Under the name of Everett Landscape, I had developed a stable of subcontractors that I could rely upon. Using former competitors in the CLCA to take care of the planting and irrigation and my former subcontractors for necessary allied trades (such as electricians, masons, concrete, swim pools, carpentry, etc.), I was able to continue to offer my clients the highest workmanship, while concentrating on design and supervision. It was not a small or easy job. The project included removing a pool, installing a hot tub, building a deck and multiple patios, terracing an area with rock walls and adding some rather hefty retaining walls. We could not be happier with the results. Jim is a pleasure to work with and genuinely values his clients. All of the people he brings in to work on the job are top notch. If you believe in doing things right the first time around, Jim is the person you should work with! **★★★★★ — Joy Weintz, May 2015** > Jim installed a multidimensional and multifunctional backyard oasis, recreation and entertainment center for all ages in on a mere rear strip of a back yard on a 1/4 acre site in central Menlo Park. He transformed what was often referred to as a bowling alley with stadium bleachers for deck stairs into a textured sophisticated and approachable entertainment area for all ages. His task was to accommodate toddlers through teens with consideration of entertainment minded adults. From nothing but turf and boards, he installed a stone patio with water feature, expansive decking, hot tub nook, fire pit attraction, stone outpost we named el Capitan, play structure wing, and storage area -- all with arbors, fixed bench rail, stepped stone areas with fragrant ground cover, screening with palm trees and vines, and a convenient grilling area. We have hosted many occasions (fundraisers, wedding brunches, all ages of birthdays from 1 year to 50 years, each with several dozen guests at a time in the area with multiple conversation areas all within range to maintain cohesiveness. Jim's installation won a top 2003 honor of distinguished installation in on the Peninsula. He is open to customer's needs: budget and entertaining and recreation considerations. He assisted in material selection of both land and hardscape -- and it doesn't look like every other yard you see -- it has character, charm, consideration and elegance in every way. In spite of it's age, and our wear and tear of 6 resident boys now ages 6-25, the space remains what it was intended to be -- a destination for recreation, celebration, tranquility and Joy for years to come! **★★★★★ — Jen D, April 2015** > Jim is fabulous! He took our yard down to the dirt, jackhammered out our old patio, installed a pool, new patio, new wooden deck and the foundation for our pool house, regraded the yard and installed new plantings throughout. Is the upper section a custom concrete piece? What is the lower catch basin metal piece? Would love to know what brand pump was used as well. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide! A: Yes, the entire fountain run of +/- 100 lf w/20' elevation drop was comprised of (3) sections of custom formed/poured concrete; the collection basins were also concrete jacketed with fabricated SS panels (same apples to the outflow receptacles). In one area, disappears entirely to flow under a bocce court. Most amazing thing? NO construction plans from architect! As I recall, a 2hp pump with a 2.5" discharge rated to handle the flow and elevation. Nervous as heck the first time I hit the switch and ended up a thing of beauty.
