After plummeting down our basement steps and badly breaking my foot it was time to replace our basement staircase. Wanting to make it safer, we were very specific in what we wanted... keep the step close to the existing height but have the tread depth deeper. (So more of our foot would fit on the step). After searching Google I came across their website and then researched for customer reviews and we are so glad we contacted them. I initially left a message and Nelly called me back the next day. We scheduled a time for Jose to come out to discuss and he was very punctual, professional and extremely friendly. We received our estimate shortly there-after..... we found the price very reasonable for getting oak stairs installed so we signed the agreement put down the deposit and once they rec'd all the material, Nelly called to schedule the installation. Two gentlemen came, Ray and another man (I am sorry I did not get his name) but they were both very nice and professional. They arrived at 8:45am and they had the job completed by noon time. I highly recommend them **★ — HU-576254, June 2017** > They just finished working on my stairs and handrails. Jose is a very good salesman. When he first came to my house, he showed me a lot of pictures of the work his team supposedly did. Before the contract was signed Jose replied to every message I send and my every phone call, but after he received most of the money I owed him under our contract he's not reachable at all. I'm getting read receipts for all emails I send, but he has no decency to even say that he's done with the project which he got paid for but didn't finish. > > The team that worked on my stairs was very unprofessional and the final result is terrible. Whatever they did finish was of very poor quality and I had to hire somebody else to finish the job they got paid for. > > Though a picture is worth a thousand words, but when it comes to hardwood you need to touch it. I can't walk on my stairs barefoot and the handrails are so rough you can scratch your hands holding on to them. So beware when looking at Jose's portfolio next time. > > Whatever their previous reviews were, they are up to no good now. One star I have to give them is one too many for their work. **Comment from J & J Elite Carpentry Inc.:** > I'm very disappointed to hear Gene's inaccurate version of events. I met with Gene on May 6, 2017 to collect the balance on the work we had completed. At this time he brought to my attention that the 1st landing was a little rough and needed to be lightly sanded. I told him to hold back $200 from the final balance, and that we would schedule a day for the touch up. I advised him we were very busy and we'd take care of it within 2 weeks. On May 14, 2017 my father passed away, and during this very difficult time both my mother and I became ill. I reached out to Gene to inform him of the situation, and that I wasn't sure when I would be able to complete the touch up as I had to step away from the business to take care of these personal matters. Gene relentlessly called, texted, and emailed in the days that followed. His lack of compassion and understanding truly frustrated me, and I decided to let him keep the balance to have someone else do the touch up. Gene then proceeded to leave bad reviews on Facebook, Houzz, and BBB in an effort to hurt my business, but anyone who is looking to work with us can get an accurate sense of the quality of our work by viewing the over two hundred 5 star reviews we've received in the 10 years we've been servicing homeowners. **★★★★★ — vgalatas, March 2017** > J&J Elite Carpentry installed a new staircase and hardwood floors in my home.
