> In May 2023, a crew from Assiniboine completed the project to level our backyard and the sides of our house. Upon completion, we paid the outstanding amount and received a 2-year warranty. However, after the first heavy rainfall, we noticed a large puddle in the corner of our backyard and approximately 10-15% of the gravel and rocks washed away from the sides of the house. We immediately contacted Assiniboine and received a quick response from Jacob in Customer Service.
> Attempts at Resolution:
> Project Manager Colin P. initially responded by redirecting the waterspouts onto our neighbor's property, a solution that ultimately worsened the situation. A subsequent fix involved adding more gravel to the corner, but the sides of the house were left unresolved, with landscaping fabric still exposed.
> Assiniboine then suggested a more extensive solution, which included the addition of underground weeping tiles and a "dry river bed" along the property line. Trusting Assiniboine’s expertise, we agreed to this proposal and signed a contract for the new work. This project was completed on July 29, 2024, but the result was far below our expectations.
> Quality of the Follow-Up Work:
> Instead of the 55-foot “dry river bed” we were promised, we received a 36-foot installation that was poorly executed and inadequate for the amount of water runoff expected from the waterspouts. Furthermore, we requested that a barrier be created between our backyard and the neighbor’s property to prevent dirt from being washed into the river bed, but what was provided was an unpainted two-by-four plank leaning against the fence – a clearly substandard and unsightly solution. The weeping tile connection to the downspouts was poorly done, lacking connectors and looking cheap.
> Attempts at Further Communication:
> We reached out immediately to Project Manager Colin P. and Assiniboine's Customer Service to address these issues. After waiting for two months, we finally had an inspection by Brandon at the end of September 2024. His response was that the company would "think about how to fix this." By mid-October, we were informed by Colin that no further work would be done on our property, and that we would receive a refund for the last project.
> Current Situation:
> As of today, November 25, 2024, the issues remain unresolved, and we have not received any refund, despite the warranty and promises made by Assiniboine. We are extremely disappointed with the poor quality of the work and the lack of communication from your company. This is not the level of service we expected from a reputable landscaping business.

They arrive when they say and each year they remember how they installed the lights the past year.  I really don't have to be home for them to do the job.  We have also used their snow removal services and again they do a great job.  They are timely and when there is the least hint of ice they put down environmentally friendly ice melt.  I would definitely recommend them.

> I hired Assiniboine over 3 years ago to do a major backyard renovation. The renovation included a new fence/deck/ grading, retaining wall, steps, paving stone, sod and garden beds. It was a major undertaking and I am very satisfied with the end result. From the beginning of the process to the end completion of the project it was an easy and smooth process. There were no hidden surprises and the company finished the job on time and within the budget. We found the crew was efficient, organized and managed logistics professionally, the project manager was easy to talk to and helped fine tune the design and concepts to our liking. Here it is 3 years later and we are still very happy with all the work, we have enjoyed our backyard immensely and we are planning to call them in the spring for another project.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Cement or sand?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Were these stones set in wet cement or in sand? Which method holds up best in Calgary winters?

A: Hi Jan,

Weeds can sometimes come through landscaping fabric, but a product like roundup or something of the like usually gets rid of them. Sand does need to be filled occasionally as well.

Love the Chiminea! Where is it from?

A: Thank you for the comment @hendriksp1749 We would love to help you although we did not provide the Chiminea for this homeowner. We completed the landscaping of the paving stone patios, flag stone walkway and sod.
