> I am an architect in Washington DC and after drawing the plans for a full remodel and renovation of the kitchen in my 1906 rowhouse, I contracted Barratt Construction to do the work. Peter and David were extremely professional and easy to work with, and were able to complete the project for us in a very timely manner (which was very important to us). Not to mention they executed the work beautifully. They were easy to communicate with throughout the project and were helpful in offering suggestions to us on where we could improve the project as we uncovered a couple unanticipated existing conditions. Overall I had a great experience working with Peter and David and I would highly recommend Barratt Construction Services for home renovations and builds. I will use them again for future projects.

**★★★★★ — Liesl Hartmann, Aug. 2019**

> We hired Peter and David to renovate our basement into an ADU and to replace all the siding on our home. They were beyond excellent to work with. Their work is precise and beautiful, their advice is priceless and they are so reasonably priced and great to deal with. We could not be happier with the results and they really made the whole process painless. We cannot recommend them and their whole crew highly enough.

**★★★★★ — Nikki Jo, July 2019**

> This review is long overdue but we want to thank Barratt Construction for being a tremendous partner in our rental home renovation that took place in 2016. When we started the process of interviewing potential contractors there was a lot of uncertain and unease. However, we were immediately impressed with Peter and David. For a home renovation, you need a company dedicated to providing quality work and incredible customer service. You should consider and use Barratt Construction.
>
> We initially thought that our project was only going to entail us digging out the crawl space, replacing the hardwood floor throughout the house, add a powder room to the first floor and renovate the kitchen. While inspecting the house in order to provide the estimate, Peter and David were the only contractors to identify the reason behind the softening of the hardwood on the first floor. It turned out that the person who renovated/flipped the house and sold it to us in 2003 vented the HVAC and dryer to the crawl space. Meaning for 13 years, moisture had weakened the floor. Based on this initial finding and the other renovation needs, Barratt provided us a competitive estimate and schedule for completing work.
>
> Once the flooring was pulled-up, it was discovered that the moisture damage had also attracted termites and nearly destroyed all of the floor joists. Rather than just adding the cost of the replacing the joists, Barratt worked with us to prioritize the scope of the project. For example, we decided to only replace the hardwood on the first floor. The rest of our experience with Peter and David was just as positive. By default, Barratt did all of the small things that were wonderful for the project. For example, by default undercabinet lighting was standard in the kitchen and dimmers were added throughout the first floor. We also appreciated the tremendous level of communication, their ability to provide realistic expectations and their ability to complete the project on schedule.
>
> We are now in the market for a new home, which will likely require substantial renovation. Peter and David have been incredibly generous with their time by inspecting potential properties, and providing us with their insight. We would not consider taking on a renovation project without consulting with them first.

**★★★★★ — Alison McIntyre, June 2019**

> Barratt Construction exceeded all of our expectations. From project planning to the final product, the Barratt team served as a partner. It took us over a year to push the button on our four month, move out renovation. They showed remarkable perseverance and most importantly, they listened to us when we finally pushed the button. Peter and David never attempted to upsell us on any products or services. They respected our vision and our budget. We served as our own designers so we most appreciated their endless well of patience as we sought their guidance on many decisions ranging from door hinges to tile. The project was completed on time and within our budget. The greatest praise you can give a contracting team is to say we miss them. And we do. We would highly recommend partnering with Barratt.

> We’re doing a major kitchen renovation, and we’re excited to work with Peter and David again. They’re professionals who bring decades of experience and problem solving skills to get the job done right, and they have always exceeded our expectations because they execute design details flawlessly. They plan carefully and use their firsthand, in-depth knowledge of construction to anticipate any problems. They assemble a team of superlative trademen (i.e., electrical and plumbing), and then are on the work site supervising and making sure the work is sequenced and performed properly.
>
> Peter and David previously worked on two other home projects for us. There simply aren't enough superlatives to describe their work ethic, attention to detail, assessment, and mastery of all facets of construction. These guys have done it all and bring years of their well-honed and practical building skills and management to a project.
>
> Both are expert craftsmen in their respective areas. We’ve worked with contractors in the past who insisted on time and materials. However, with Peter and David, their statement of work and accompanying bid proposal are transparent and detailed so that the owner knows exactly what they will do (and won't do -- important!). They see the project through to completion and to the homeowner’s satisfaction. They also have a good eye for aesthetics and will recommend alternate solutions, and explain why they would do it another way. For example, instead of building soffets to encase overhead radiator pipes in the ceiling – they will recommend replacement with pex pipes to keep the ceiling plane uninterrupted. Although it may sound extravagant, it improves the design \[and forever\], and you’ll wonder why your architect didn’t think of it. They want you to get good value for the dollars you only want to spend once on your project.
>
> Any time we have a project, we try to fit into their work schedule – we will \*always\* invite them to bid on our projects. Hands down.
>
> Major projects:
> (1) Rebuild of front porch -- supported existing porch ceiling / roofing, tear-out of existing framed porch and rebuilds, including concrete front stairway and masonry side retaining walls
>
> (2) Basement in-law suite -- basement dig-out, new foundation underpinnings, new central water, sewer and waste plumbing installation, new integrated sump drainage system, floor slab and complete refinishing of basement into luxury apartment with one bedroom, full kitchen and dinette, laundry room, den, and living room.

**★★★★★ — Lisa B., Aug. 2016**

> Barratt Construction completed a gut renovation, basement dig-out, and two-story addition to our home in upper NW. Although the project took some to get off the ground (we needed a DCRA special exception), once started it progressed faster than we anticipated. Either David or Peter were on site every day managing their employees and making sure all the pieces of the puzzle fitted together as intended.
>
> As this is not our first major remodel, we had past experiences to measure against. Some note-worthy items include
> \- the whole crew work exclusively for Barratt - on our last project there were substantial issues between the GC and his subs.
> \- the project came in on time and within the budget we had for the work
> \- there were no change orders apart from the few we requested
>
> The project took approximately 5 months to complete, it was efficiently managed from start to finish, and the Barratt team were a pleasure to work with. I have no hesitation in highly recommending them for any substantial remodeling project.

**★★★★★ — David Jackson-Handy, July 2016**

> We employed Barratt to renovate a row house and build an addition. They understood the demands of working in DC on a 100 year old home. They managed the project from the design to the final inspections with respect and enthusiasm. We now have a home with a legal basement rental and, living space for our family, that is both comfortable and beautiful. We would highly recommend this company for any major renovation in DC.

**★★★★★ — hbkrasa, May 2016**

> We hired Barratt to rebuild a sunroom, create a kitchen addition, build dormers, add 1.5 bathrooms and complete several overall house upgrades. Throughout the process Peter, David and the whole team at Barratt worked with us to ensure the end product exceeded our expectations. Barratt's team worked in a transparent, ethical and empathetic manner to help ease the process of home renovation for our family. We highly recommend working with Barratt Construction Services.

**★★★★★ — stephenandjulia, April 2015**

> We hired Barratt to renovate the top three floors of our home in Glover Park, DC. The house was in terrible shape prior to the renovation. We basically had to redo everything, including the electrical and plumbing. Peter and David were great, professional and prompt. We enjoyed working with them and can unequivocally recommend Barratt for home renovations.
