## Community Q&A

**Q: finally finished our kitchen!!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

The old kitchen occupied a space just enough for the fridge, stove and sink. The cabinets were awful, the tile was gross, and the space was barely enough for us to pass by. I love to entertain my friends and it was time to make a change. It's taken us 4 months to do this reno...waiting for parts and pieces ordered. We took out a 2' x 3' chimney over 3 floors, took out 3 walls, took some of the entrance way to the deck and brought it inside,  put doors that open onto a new large deck as the old one was sort of rotten, and super small. The back splash and island are one piece of quartz each, and the counter top is a 1/3 of another piece of quartz. Need to put in pendants and get stools still. Now, if only it stopped raining and the summer really arrived we'd be happy!!

**Q: Identify this tile?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I saw this tile in a model home built by Arive construction in Utah.  The person at the model home had no information on it.  It's a mix of marbles, the individual rectangles are about 2" by 4".  Does anyone recognize this tile and know where I can get it?

A: I believe it is Calacutta gold.  It is a natural stone so finding the exact same color would be hard.

**Q: Warm grey mapei equivalent?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Trying to pick a light gray grout color. WIP bathroom pics attached. I continue to be drawn to projects that use mapei warm grey, but my contractor does not like mapei grout. Prefers custom building products (from Home Depot). Thoughts on what light grey I should use: platinum, oyster grey, DeLorean Gray or other? Thanks in advance! Marble tile is Carrera, and our countertop is Carrera marble too.

A: Platinum is more like Mapei's warm grey.  The Greystone would look nice with the floor color.

**Q: Pot and pan drawer size?!** *(in Polls)*

I need to decide between  

1\) Two side by side 24 inch pot/pan drawers (interior width 18 3/4") 
\*OR\* 

2\) One 30 inch pot/pan drawer (interior width is 24 3/4") and one 18" cabinet with slide out drawers (not quite a pot/pan drawer that slides out directly).  Which size would be better at holding more pots/pans efficiently. I can see if a width is an awkward size, it may just be short of holding another pot width wise. Is there a standard to this, or a recommended, popular size? 

A side note, the 2 24" would make the island symmetrical, a 30" then 18" would not, but would that matter?

A: If you like symmetry, you could use 2 24" cabinets and a large 36" pots and pans drawer in the middle.

Need help on what color to do kitchen cabinets. I am having them refaced!
Any ideas are welcomed and appreciated!
Should I paint the island a different color?

A: A slight off white, and add hardware.

**Q: Kitchen: Drab to Fab!!** *(in Before & After)*

We had an old oak cabinet kitchen with walls closing it in. We took down the walls, put a long island where the wall was, extended hardwoods throughout, and it's an entertainers dream! We can talk, cook and be connected to the party now!
