### Featured Review

**★★★★★ — Bert Regeer, March 2019**

> Stephanie has developed two architectural plans for us and guided these successfully through permit approval. Her designs capture what we wanted for the houses, and also added thoughtful details that we appreciated. Stephanie is quick in responding and will often go out of her way to meet at the property to answer questions. She is very knowledgeable about the building approval process and very professional. She is a joy to work with.

> I loved working with Stephanie. Super collaborative and full of great ideas! Such a pro, she really knows her stuff!

**★★★★★ — Ashley Farrell Landscape Design, June 2019**

> I am a Santa Barbara landscape contractor and I have had the pleasure of working with Stephanie on two projects . In both occasions she created the garden plan and directed me accordingly. Her -abundant architectural skills seamlessly transcend into the garden space and it was a pleasure installing her designs. I look forward to our next project!

**★★★★★ — Barbara Balents, March 2019**

> Stephanie was the architect for the remodel of the master bathroom (about 10 years ago) of and two other bathrooms in our house in 2019. We found her to be extremely thoughtful about space planning. In both cases, she presented multiple layout options that were above and beyond anything we'd considered (or others professionals had suggested). She explained the pros and cons very clearly in terms of space, cost and so on, and took into account our priorities for the space. She also gave us a lot of options and ideas in terms of fixtures, tiles and so on. She is an expert on the city codes and there were never any issues with inspections. She was also really helpful at giving advice to the contractors when they ran into a few issues during construction.

**★★★★★ — Erin Carroll, Oct. 2017**

> Stephanie is an excellent Architect that has a keen eye for quality residential design. She has strong project management skills as well and is great with clients and projects consultants.

**★★★★★ — Earthknower Landscape Architecture, July 2013**

> Superb architect, understands a multitude of styles, works closely with clients to develop ideas that are not only practical, but aesthetically enhancing the livability of each project that she engages with.

 - Description: This 1925 craftsman house in Santa Barbara, Ca needed its original detached garage to be replaced. The single car garage has a covered patio attached creating an outdoor living room. It features a fun outdoor shower, a seating and dining area and outdoor grill. The small garage provides storage space while still providing room for a car.

 - Location: Santa Barbara, CA

 - Description: After the Montecito Debris Flow, I thought of a way to use some of the excess rocks and boulders available in Santa Barbara. Natural sandstone low wall provides a place for neighbors to sit and chat while out on their dog walks. The drought-tolerant plants require only drip irrigation and replace a lawn and chain link fencing. The long narrow driveway doubles as a bocce ball court. The vertical plantings along the driveway is broken up with artful laser cut panels ensure that every space on this…

 - Description: We improved the safety and access to the front porch from the driveway/sidewalk by removing an existing set of too steep steps. The rear yard had even more harrowing steps that were replaced with gracious winding steps built into the slope. Editing the landscape trees was equally as important to the project as the addition of new water-wise plants. Interior paint and refurbished bathroom tiles made a remarkable comeback.

 - Description: This proposed remodel received its building permits days prior to the Thomas Fire and debris flow in Montecito. Although it wasn't affected by either, access to the site complicated the start date. The permit was kept open in order to help sell the property. Hopefully new owners will see it to fruition.

 - Description: This house was purchased for a flip and had not been remodeled since it was built in 1969. A single-car garage was replaced with a Dining Room off of the new kitchen. Walls were removed and replaced with large bi-folding doors to the exterior. There was an elevated Entry and Kitchen which was removed to allow free-flow circulation throughout the house - indoor and out. A new outdoor shower off of the secondary bathroom allows for a pool bath escape.
- [1925 Bungalow Kitchen Remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/1925-bungalow-kitchen-remodel-pj-vj~7400788)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 48
 - Description: This 1925 home's kitchen was small and closed off from the front rooms. We took inspiration from the existing arches separating the Living and Dining Room to similarly open up the kitchen, but in keeping with the style and era of the house. An unused open pantry area was turned into an additional bathroom making the house a 3-BR/2-BA stunner.

## Community Q&A

**Q: the rope backdrop** *(in Photo Questions)*

how was this created? I have a small lanai I would like to do this with rather than curtains to give privacy

A: I originally bought twisted 100% cotton rope for crafts / macrame cord - high strength, natural, untreated, unbleached, undyed 1/2" x 100' spool. I unwound the twisted rope because I likes the textured look of the coiled rope. It eventually lost its coil and straightened out. I took a length of rope that was about 16' long and doubled it. The loop in the midpoint was looped over a rod (like you start in macrame). Then you pull the ends through the loop and let them dangle freely down. I tied knots in the bottoms of each rope for weight. The breeze flows through this without the ropes blowing in on us as we sit on the sofa. Curtains were driving us crazy at first by doing just that.

**Q: lovely lush drought tolerant.!** *(in Photo Questions)*

So relaxing! Wonderful colors. What material did you use for the Bocce court/driveway? Thank you.

A: Decomposed granite was used for the driveway with a stabilizer to prevent run-off and dust.

**Q: Panel frame and panel** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where can I get the screen panel and panel frame? Looks fantastic!

A: https://artisanpanels.com/

**Q: Outdoor furniture** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is that the West Elm Portside collection? How did the furniture hold up over time? Thanks!

A: It has held up well for 3-4 years now. It does not get direct sunlight in summer; and although it gets wet, I sometimes cover it when I know we are having a big rain. The cushion covers that come with it are cheap and faded almost immediately (sadly). They now sell Sunbrella replacement covers which I may buy, because Sunbrella material hold up so well.

**Q: Need help in the initial stages of a kitchen update/remodel.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are in the very, very early stages of updating our kitchen, and possibly the adjoining laundry room. I want to get rid of the soffits, possibly get rid of some of the non-load bearing walls (into the kitchen, between the kitchen and laundry). Husband definitely wants an induction cooktop, and quartz countertop. Any suggestions?

A: Unless you plan on buying all new cookware too, make sure your existing pots and pans are compatible with induction cooktop.

**Q: What color fire glass should we use ??** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Any suggestions on fire glass color? Gold/yellow, bronze, Aqua ?

A: aqua
