We're in love with this rug (http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-nb02-grooved-zen-garden-moroccan/light-beige/200OZNB02A-406.html) and want to get the 7'10 x 10 for our living room that measures 16' x 13'. We're wondering however, will it be too large for the space? You can see the space in the photos below. The current rug size is 5 x 8 and we've taped off what the dimensions of the new rug would be. It would leave 30" of hardwood border around each of the sides, which would be the designated walkways to the other rooms of the house. Any and all thoughts are appreciated! A: It is helpful to know room size. If I see room proportion correctly and the conversation area, rug would be entirely too large. For an area rug, it can be covering the floor just inside the conversation area, or include all the furniture legs. With the above arrangement you seem to be choking your furniture up just to allow a walkway behind the sofa. This would be a good room to graph out before your decide. **Q: Hood Vent Ordering Error** *(in Design Dilemma)* We completely remodeled our kitchen and are down to the final details. We wanted a particular hood vent we saw and loved in a Houzz picture. We were grateful when our dealer found the model using the picture we supplied. The next decision was what size motor/s we wanted from the two options offered by the dealer. Eight weeks later we learn the option we chose won't fit because it requires a larger exhaust pipe than our home has! Was the dealer wrong to offer a motor incompatible with our exhaust pipe? Aren't dealer's supposed to know the products they sell and provide appropriate guidance? Our salesman is a very nice fellow, but we don't see how this is our mistake. Yet, we really need to proceed through the "who pays for the replacement" process quickly so we can get the correct model ordered ASAP! We all make mistakes, yet we don't see how this one is ours. Your opinions are appreciated. A: It is acompletely a dealer mistake and they need to correct without any additional cost to you. I am assuming you did not buy this online, if so, than it is your mistake. A lot of online sales agents are just orders taken without knowledge behind them. **Q: Help with countertop** *(in Design Dilemma)* We finally decided on a cabinet!! Now for a counter top. We narrowed it down to 3 choices. The lighter is quatzite and the other two are granite. Which do you all like? A: The top two are pretty Grey in color. If the paint on walls uses a grey tone that is ok. However if your wall colors are more cream colored the bottom one gives you more options for using complementary colors. The homes these days are heavily saturated with greys and using grey toned counters locks you into using grey even if the industry changes away from grey. Counter color not easily changed later on. **Q: Baseboard question** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are remodeling the bedroom of our home, and it's in a beach community in Northern California. When we moved into this home, every wall was covered with vertical cedar. We removed most of it as the house was too dark. We did leave it on some walls to preserve the rustic feel of the home. We are now putting in baseboard and wondering if we should keep the baseboard (White) the same on all walls. My husband says no, but I think it will look wrong if it's not all the same baseboard. . Here is a picture of where the walls meet. I think we should continue with the white. Am I wrong? I'll go with your opinion. Thank you! (Please excuse the construction mess A: I agree to keep the baseboards all white. I think the rest of the cedar walls need to be taken down. When you have a beautiful view any other thing that draws you eye away from it just confuses the look. **Q: How to make the dark trim work?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Proud new owner of all this wood and wallpaper :). The trim in the rest of the house is painted white and I typically like crisp white trim and cool/modern colors. But I am torn about painting the original wood trim in the dinning room. It is high quality wood and in very good condition. How can I update/modernize this space and incorporate the dark trim? Would it work with the rest of the house? Thought on paint, design etc. welcome. A: If you are going for a vintage look in your Dining Room, the wood trim is great to keep and keep the walls light. If you are wanting a more updated look to the room, you should paint the trim to match the rest of the home. **Q: Need help!!** *(in Design Dilemma)* Is this coffee table too large/tall for the sofa? What about the lamp...too short? Do I need taller ones? Thanks in advance for any advice/comments! A: A better fit for the coffee table is that it should not be more than 2/3's of the inside width of your sofa. That is the width of the cushions not including the arms.
