And so do my kids and husband so i should just let that be enough. Alas… Of the 25-30 friends who have come over with the specific intention of seeing my new kitchen, about 90% have not said anything complimentary about the kitchen. I get lots of ”oh wow! you guys must be so happy to have a kitchen again!” or ”Do you like it?” Some just dont say anything. Maybe some might compliment my stove (she’s gorgeous) or the backsplash (it is a work of art, esp up close) but only 4 people have actually said they think its beautiful. And interestingly, those 4 friends absolutely GUSHED over it and said it should be in magazines! Ha! My husband wishes I didnt care what others think. And so do I!!! This is sooo silly!! But when you put this much money into your house, you want to feel like you’ve appreciated the value of your home. And based on the majority of the reactions Ive gotten, I’m not sure we did. (not that we plan to sell…but still) So my request from this community is constructive feedback. Please tell me if there are any changes I could make that would be relatively inexpensive that might make the kitchen appeal to more people. For example, I can’t do anything about the cabinets, but I could change the hardware. I cant change the counters, but i could swap out decor (easily!) and lighting fixtures. I really do want honest feedback, but do please be gentle — I’m feeling like an insecure teenage girl here! And im afraid i sound like the skinny girl in middle school who would say how fat she was so others would tell her she’s soooo skinny. Im not seeking praise—just constructive feedback! A: I haven't read all the comments, but I suggest that to the glass cabinets you change the color of the backs. Ideally to the wood color, but even the hood color will brighten up the space. **Q: Quick Solution for Bar Front.** *(in Home Decorating)* We are preparing to list our mid-seventies split level for sale and need a quick solution. We used the lower level bar area for storage and we forgot about this “project” until now that everything has been cleared away. The bar front was once covered with carpet and needs a new face, so to speak. The top is black textured laminate, and laminate on the front would work, but there is an area on the side where the studs cause an uneven surface. Suggestiions? Top A: Realistically, just paint the bottom black; it's the easiest solution without creating more work and no extra benefit. **Q: Is there a light brown neutral that doesn’t have pink undertones?** *(in Paint)* I’ve always loved warm neutrals, but like the cafe au lait, chocolate milk, mushroom kind of colors. Recently I was looking into carpet colors and came across Maria Killam’s system that seems to say that the colors I love all count as ”pinky beige” and that is the most limiting undertone or something along those lines. How do I find a nice warm light brown without accidentally playing into this design trap? A: The floor looks good; not sure about WTW carpeting as an improvement. I don't see cool tones from the photo. Find an area rug if you want deeper tones. Pull darkest color from the current floor into the paint color and then go shopping for your couches. **Q: paint my vanity?** *(in Design Dilemma)* My entire townhouse is filled with cherry cabinetry. I find it a bit monotonous and am thinking of painting my vanity. I've heard painting cherry wood requires using certain prep methods. My question is, do I paint? If so, what color? I'm thinking a creamy white or a light blue/gray. Thank you in advance for your input. A: No blue gray paint color given the tones of that space; you need something that compliments what is there already. **Q: Where to end quartz backsplash??** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are running the quartz up 18” as backsplash. should i end quartz lined up with last wall cab, or extend a little farther to line up with corner of the base corner cabinet? A: I would follow to the end; the backsplash belongs to the counter. It look off to stop in middle of counter run; do a step down to the end if the 18" feels heavy looking. **Q: Seeking opinions of Backsplash** *(in Remodeling)* I have spent hours trying to make a decision on this. Any help would be appreciated. We are finishing our remodel. I have Andino White granite that is busier than I anticipated. The backsplash shown in the pic is from our prior granite (similar, but lighter, with less pronounced graining).Not sure why, but I do not think gray tile looks good in this kitchen, so I ruled that out. I have narrowed it down to these choices: Plain white (but not stark white) Daltile 3x6 gloss subway tile with light warm gray grout. Zenith 2.25x9 gloss tile that leans gray, also with light warm gray grout. Zellige tile- Jeffrey Court 2.5x9.75 glossy tile in Cotton Blossom. Unsure of grout color- either white or a very light gray. I like the Daltile because I like contrasting grout lines and gray grout is easier to maintain than white grout. Also, I could possibly incorporate a herringbone mosaic like the former one, except in a darker marble that picks up the graining in the granite.I like the Zenith because I like the crisp edges so the grout lines will be neater. However, I prefer a wider tile. I am also not sure if Zenith tile would look too contemporary in my space.In regard to the Zellige tile, I think the color is a near-perfect match to the white in the granite. I like the size of the tile in this space. However, I am not a huge fan of the glossy Zellige tile with a busy granite because I think they tend to compete with each other. I am having a hard time picturing what it would look like with my granite. I also am unsure of the grout color for this tile. Thank you! Side note: We are going to have the wood floors refinished in a lighter brown stain (eliminating the red tone) with a satin finish. A: The middle color tile shown in your last photo looks best with what's there. Your granite has a pattern and it's consistent; it's not busy. For grout, select the color that best blends; you can get different types of grout if you are concerned with staining.
