> Okay, this is the 3rd time that we have had the opportunity to work with Dan Hemp and his crew at Abby Construction & Elle Design.  The first time was for notable home remodeling; the second time was for complete remodeling of 3 full bathrooms – including making gorgeous cabinetry out of three wood species for each bathroom; and this third time we enlisted him to make a dining room table for our condo at the beach! We shopped everywhere in NC & SC for an oval table that fit our space. Finally, after not finding what we wanted, we sent Dan a photo of a table that we liked and asked if he could make it in walnut, in an oval shape, and to primarily seat 4 but sizable enough to seat 6 if needed. His prompt response was, “Yes, I can do that!”  Dan found beautiful wood, did the calculations to seat 4 to 6 as well as ensure perfect oval dimensions. To make sure that we were all on the same page, Dan asked us to come to the shop and view the plans on the exact wood that would be our table. This was such a good idea, as this confirmed that we all were on the same page!  While Dan ships furniture that he makes to all over the country, transport plans would have been easy. However, he detached the base from the top and securely loaded it in the back of my SUV for easy and safe transport from Banner Elk to Hilton Head, SC. We are thrilled with our dining room table, and we are yet once again thrilled with the work by Dan Hemp and his staff at Abby Construction & Elle Design.

In addition to quality craftsmanship, Dan spent a great deal of time trying to understand what we wanted and was instrumental in a number of design changes from our original plans that turned out much better than we expected.  He was a fantastic communicator, sending us frequent pictures by email and text to keep us updated on progress.  We were worried that taking on a project of this size would be difficult from 200 miles away, but it was only possible because we had the right person and company on site.
