> Richard Manion is a brilliant architect whose breadth of knowledge of architectural history
> beautifully informs his work. His ability to transform a home is astonishing. He seems to effortlessly manage the big picture – deadlines and budgets while paying microscopic attention to detail. His exquisite sensibility is unparalleled. Richard Manion Architecture operates honorably with the highest professional standards and integrity. Richard is extremely affable, relaxed and good-natured. Richard's phenomenal leadership and interpersonal skills allow for projects to run as seamlessly as possible. Many of his clients hire him repeatedly-as would I if the occasion arises. It's a no-brainer. You can't go wrong with Richard Manion Architecture.

**★★★★★ — Richard Holz, April 2017**

> I have worked with Richard Manion for over ten years. We as contractors have executed several of Richard's designs. His range is remarkable in that we have worked on a historic restoration, an exquisite traditional and a very contemporary beach home.
> What sets Richard apart from some other architects is his personal involvement. Richard's plans are complete and coordinated, but his participation in the weekly job meetings is critical to the success of a project.
> Richard is also very collaborative. His ability to keep the entire team, including the homeowner, on point is greatly appreciated.

**★★★★★ — Jason Rodriguez, April 2017**

> Richard Manion Architecture is quite honestly the best all around architecture firm we have worked with in Los Angeles. While several firms will guide client's down a rosy path, RMA will always provide the upfront information on budget and schedule and always perform within those means. The architectural knowledge, along with the current code and city specific requirements make RMA a pleasure to work with as a builder and make the project move at a fast pace without delays and unanswered RFIs and lingering questions. Richard's personal knowledge of classical architecture is second to none and his vast experience is invaluable throughout projects.

> We have had a one of kind experience working with Richard and his team. From the planning to the execution of our plans, they have provided excellent customer service and attention to detail. This firm is about high end detail with personal service.Richard was always responsive to any questions along the way. We have built a beautiful home with details true to the architectural style that is our dream home.

**★★★★★ — David Desmond, Inc., April 2017**

> I have had the pleasure of working with RMA on the interior design of a number of houses over the past 14 years. Richard Manion is exceptional in his erudition, creativity, diligence, professionalism and expertise. RMA is in a class by itself. Each and every project is one of a kind. The firm's body of work is world class. RMA has my highest recommendation.

  - Description: Modern Weekend House \| Broad Beach, Malibu Our intent was to create a contemporary beach house that would combine the simplicity of geometrical spaces and volumes with warm materials. This family weekend house is entered at the upper street level through a translucent glass gate that is set between the simple geometric volumes of the house and adjacent monumental gate pier, giving the feeling of penetrating a solid volume of architecture to arrive at your destination. This leads down to the entr…

  - Description: The romantic 1930s Palm Beach houses of Addison Mizner—with their mix of Spanish courtyards, Venetian Gothic windows and arches, and cool Andalusian colors and materials—were of great inspiration. This home is a streamlined interpretation of that style. It’s a fresh, lively house meant for a young couple with three young children and a major art collection that include the works of Damien Hirst, Mark Rothko, Louise Nevelson, Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat. Interiors by Richard Hallberg of…

  - Description: This newly completed residence is based on 1920s and ’30s interpretations of smaller Italian villas, such as Villa Gamberaia outside Florence, as well as the classic estates of Southern California and Florida. The ornate interiors are modeled after period Italian villas and the Palm Beach estates of Maurice Fatio. A two-story stair hall has walls covered in stuc pierre (plaster that imitates limestone), Doric and Ionic columns,hand-forged iron railings and a skylight ceiling with an ironwork gri…

  - Description: This remodel of an English Country house built in the 1930s was done as a modern interpretation of the work of C.F.A.Voysey, Eyre and their contemporaries. An insensitively placed porte-cochere was removed to allow for a new gabled facade that announces the entry. We added a new wing to reinforce the pool axis and expand the family rooms and master suite. Interior moldings, fireplaces and details, redesigned from classical sources, embellish the formal rooms and articulate the interior. Interior…

  - Location: Santa Barbara, CA

  - Description: This grand estate was designed in 1929 by renowned architect Reginald Johnson (the Biltmore Hotel, Santa Barbara) in the Mediterranean Period Revival Movement. The house drew inspiration from the smaller villas created during the Italian Renaissance with plaster walls, cast stone and plaster architectural details, tile roof and Tuscan eave beams. Our clients are restoring this property to its original magnificence that will embody a contemporary interpretation of the Italian villa and garden and…

  - Location: Beverly Hills, CA

  - Description: An interpretation of the royal chateaux—Chateau de Maisons, Courances and Anet—built as country estates around the Loire Valley and Ile de France in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Steeply pitched roofs, grand dormers and tall chimneys plus classical columns and detailing that originated in Italy and were adapted to French taste highlight the exterior. An expansive loggia, adapted from the covered shopping arcades in Paris, runs the length of the rear facade and serves as an outdoor livi…

  - Description: This brick and stone residence on a large estate property is an American version of the English country house, and it pays homage to the work of Harrie T. Lindeberg, Edwin Lutyens and John Russell Pope, all practitioners of an elegant country style rooted in classicism. Features include bricks handmade in Maryland, a limestone entry and a library with coffered ceiling and stone floors. The interiors balance formal English rooms with family rooms in a more relaxed Arts and Crafts style. Landscape…

  - Description: This is an extensive remodel that turned a spec house into a charming French provincial home with a rustic exterior. Only the stone entry surround with its curved pediment hints at the sophisticated interiors. An elegant foyer, paneled formal rooms, rusticated classical columns, ebonized wood floors, and special plaster treatments convey the feel of a city person going to the country. The family room and loggia revert to the French provincial theme with beamed ceilings in woods of warm tones and…
