> Since purchasing matching paint from Fabuwood, the manufacturer of my cabinets is so very costly, I did a color consult for my kitchen trim to match my Fabuwood Frost cabinets, with Lori Sawaya at The Land of Color,. She often answers readers’ paint dilemma questions on Houzz with detailed and cogent responses, so I felt comfortable in contacting her. The process was very easy, reasonably priced and the results outstanding. I scanned my cabinet door using the color muse reader she provided to me and sent her the screen shots. From her paint color DNA tables, she determined that the hue and chroma of BM CC-10 Ultra White was an exact match to the Frost cabinets, and that BM OC-151 White was a very close second. I ordered both samples from Samplize and she is 100% correct. She also recommended a satin finish on the paint for the trim. For this consult, Lori also gave me paint color options for my kitchen, hallway and powder room walls from an inspiration fabric that I also scanned. All my proposed choices were scientifically confirmed. After countless trips to the paint stores and months of deliberation, I am finally at peace with these decisions and can go buy my paint with confidence. And besides her clear color expertise, I found Lori to be a very lovely person. If you are struggling with color choices as I was, and want to avoid costly painting errors as I have made in the past, I highly recommend her service

**Comment from Lori A. Sawaya:**

> Lori is very knowledgeable, smart, intuitive, kind and helpful! She went over and above to help me choose paint colors, sheens and brands of paint. Her suggestions were great and she saved me lots of time and money by making the process of choosing quicker and easier!
> Very thankful she was available to help me and give me confidence in my choices!

> I have been reading Lori's color blog for some time now and I love her scientific approach to color. I learned a lot from her blog but still needed help to choose a wall color to go with two Corian showers in Antarctica that looked a bit purple in natural light. So, I purchased a color analysis from Lori's website. Her approach helped me to zero in on the right light grey paint that worked with the Corian and made the light grey Corian background look grey and not purple while making sure the walls didn't look purple, blue, pink or green - quite a challenge. I learned a lot in the process too. I love that Lori is generous with her knowledge, sharing what she knows on her Land Of Color blog and here on Houzz as well. The color analysis was definitely worth it and so inexpensive.

**Comment from Lori A. Sawaya:**

> Oh my stars! What a lovely review. Thank you so much. It was a pleasure working with you!

> Incredibly knowledgeable about color and paint. I thought it'd be impossible to find good colors in my north facing walkout basement, but Lori suggested a color that I absolutely love. I also really appreciated her honesty when she thought something wouldn't work, or when she thought I was over thinking something. The perfect color counselor!

> When we bought our house we had a really short time frame to pick out an interior paint color. Every gray color I tried was either too beige or too purple. I was in a panic and reached out to Lori. She was able to pick out the perfect paint color in a quick time. She is amazing! I couldn’t be happier and I will never pick paint colors again without her :)

> As a design professional, I was truly impressed with the color training I received from Lori Sawaya of Camp Chroma. This was my third training on color. Finally, a training program that uses the scientific method of explaining how color works based on an established color system that skips all the subjective talk about undertones that leaves everyone feeling confused. Color is complex and this training finally explains color data so you can make informed decisions based on the science, rather than on subjective opinion or color sense. Lori is also a great and generous teacher who provides continuing support through her Facebook group page and ongoing group calls. I am confident now that I can bring a whole new level of expertise to help my client’s select great colors for their homes thanks to this training! Highly recommended! > Lori is a color wizard! I was fortunate to have her help me select the colors for every room of my interior, the exterior color scheme and the (elusive) perfect off-white color In which to refinish my kitchen cabinets.
>
> She is passionate about the science of color and I learned a ton throughout this project.

> Lori is a gem! She worked tirelessly throughout this project and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to my family and friends.

> I recently worked with Lori to choose paint colours for a renovation project. She was extremely knowledgable and also approachable which is so important. I felt that she actually listened to my wants and vision and provided a variety of colours that would work instead of just one. This allowed me to choose the ones that "spoke" to me. I was so impressed that she actually mailed the large sample sheets to me, even though I am in Canada. It was really helpful and saved me a trip to the paint store.

> I just completed Lori's course and let me tell you it is super intense! Lori Sawaya is indeed an expert with color, not to mention a phenomenally responsive, attentive, intelligent and enthusiastic instructor.
>
> The world of color is so vast you could get lost in it. There are so many facets to consider, not to mention the science behind it, that it'd be overwhelming to try and learn on my own. Lori has really opened my eyes and mind to a whole new way of thinking about color, but how to use it in my business as an interior decorator.
>
> Camp Chroma is her brainchild - she created and developed it. If you work with color in any way, or just have an interest in it, I highly recommend this course for furthering your color knowledge and expertise.

**★★★★★ — Old House Guy LLC, Oct. 2016**

> I am very pleased I took the Camp Chroma course. Lori explains color theory in a logical way and does not give up until you understand it. I look forward to the next class.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Benjamin Moore Brewster Gray at 75%?** *(in Paint)*

For those that have used Benjamin Moore Brewster Gray, do you find it leans more blue or more gray?
I got a sample and seems to look quite a bit darker and more gray than the pics I have seen online, which definitely look to have more blue. Thinking of trying it at 75%, to see if it comes a bit closer.

A: Cutting the formula would make the color strength weaker. Because of the DNA of the colorants, you would have to add a hefty amount of white paint to move its appearance..
Color online is not accurate and the kind of blue gray color you’re describing falls into a pocket where there is an even greater inaccuracy online.
Even though there are a lot of decisions to make, it’s a really good idea to make the time to go to a paint store and get chips and paint samples to test the colors properly
And don’t let anybody rush you in that process. If it takes you a couple more days to test and find the right colors , they can wait.

**Q: Alternative paint color to Accessible Beige** *(in Paint)*

I'm struggling to choose a paint color for our kitchen cabinets. This is a refresh, not a new build. My vision is for a light coffee color. We have honey oak floors, warm white quartz with subtle gray veining, and a natural stone backsplash with whites, taupes, grays. The kitchen has no windows, but gets indirect light from adjacent rooms. Accessible beige actually coordinates well with all the fixed elements. But I'm concerned it's been overdone and won't add appeal to future buyers. We expect to sell in the next 3 to 5 years. Any thoughts on different colors? Thanks!

A: Mushroom or Edgecomb. Note that Even Better Beige from BEHR is their literal dupe for Accessible Beige.

**Q: pale oak alternative color HELP** *(in Paint)*

Hi everyone. We’re repainting the house and had a very hard time choosing colors. I’m a professional painter which you would think would help but my decision paralysis has made things impossible!
We ended up choosing pale Oak, which I have a love-hate relationship with. In certain lights of certain times I think it looks fine, but the pink rosiness of it in certain rooms makes me want to repaint everything.
I’ve spent countless hours researching colors that are similar to pale Oak that don’t shine pink with very little success.
The good news is, I can change colors very quickly in my own house. I just don’t have it in me to buy any more samples on my own.
I included a few photos of what I like and don’t like about the color.
Part of the problem is that the rooms are empty and I’m looking only at the walls. I know that’s not the best way to do this, but it’s all I’ve got for now. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.!

A: The big dot is Pale Oak. The other dots are the other colors moving away from the yellow-red hue family. Basically, Olympic, Oak Milk and Campfire are just like Pale Oak but from a different part of color space - not as close to yellow red as Pale Oak.

**Q: Dark Green Paint Recommendations** *(in Paint)*

Looking at Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore paints for a dark green in a north facing room. Wooden furniture has a warm reddish walnut hue.

A: Not kidding about "dark". Color online isn't accurate and darker colors are even harder. The Magnolia Home color is very pretty. Get chips at an ACE Hardware.

**Q: What colors should I use?** *(in Paint)*

I'm painting my Living Room Benjamin Moore Buttered Yam. Its an open concepty and i'm unsure what color to paint my kitchen. Kitchen has black counter tops, white cabinets and dark grayish backsplash with hints of light gray. ChatGPT is recommending off white but I love color. I don't want to play it safe and lose the beauty of my love for colors. I'm painting my hallway monroe bisque-benjamin moore. Questions, what color should i paint my kitchen and what colors should i paint the columns in the living room?

A: there isn't enough wall area in the kitchen to hold a different color - typical for kitchens because of cabinets and doors e.g. pantry. Same with the columns they aren't columns as much as they are part of the millwork hierarchy which means they should be the same color as trim, doors, etc.

**Q: Wall color to go with BM white dove** *(in Paint)*

Hi there! I'm in the process of repainting our downstairs. I really wanted to keep everything to one neutral color throughout then perhaps have wallpaper in my dining room and half bath.. My kitchen cabinets and all the trim in my entire house is white dove and I am happy with it. Per the advice of my local paint store I colored drenched the first of three rooms in the white dove. It's my formal living room which is north east and the white dove is really looking stark and a bit grey. I'm not loving it. Can anyone suggest another warm white I can sample that may pair well with white dove trim? I tried pale oak and it is too dark for me. I have classic grey in another room and I don't love it. I also sampled seapearl which is not too bad. I just wanted a suggestion for something else I can try. My floors are provincial. Thx!

A: Sea Pearl is. Here are two more - both BenM
