> This company helped me with a beautiful design for my bathroom, kitchen ,& living room. I really enjoy the new look of my home and I recommend it to all. The ideas are stunning ,the price is reasonable and punctuality is perfect thanks to Tara.

**★★★★★ — Warren Norton, Feb. 2023**

> A talented professional. Taraneh completely designed and furnished my new home. She is thoughtful , smart and practical. I would highly recommend her!

**★★★★★ — HU-41921055, Nov. 2019**

> I asked Taraneh if she could come by my newly purchased condo and give me a quote for a kitchen overhaul along with bathroom upgrading and some minor updates to the living room. She did and based on her quote and timeline, I was reluctant to see it as realistic; and this being my first home I was admittedly a bit nervous to go through with renovations as I saw it as a huge mountain to climb.
>
> I did however go along with her plans, and we entered into an agreement. She started work a few days later and in those few days she did an excellent job preparing me for the task ahead - she helped me through the approval process, material purchase, and so on. Suddenly, the project seemed doable as these initial preparations are half the battle. I was not nervous anymore!
>
> On the first day of the actual renovations, she showed up well prepared, had all the necessary tools, and a well drawn out plan. I was extremely impressed with her professionalism and integrity through the course of the project and she stayed on track both in terms of timeline and budget. Not only was she very well trained in home renovations and the “hands-on” aspect of the job, but she was also very helpful in giving me ideas regarding home decor and what to pick/not pick to make my condo my home.
>
> If I highly recommend Butterfly Affect for any home renovations or interior design. If I could give her 10 stars I would, but unfortunately 5 was the maximum!

> Highly recommend!!!

> Our Son had a request for a 'blue and orange' bedroom. I told Tara and expected a laugh, but she not only made it happen, she made it look amazing!

> We are working with Tara on her Caroline St. 4-plex renovations. She purchased this property in Hamilton and is completely transforming the building, one suite at a time. Her modern-vintage design aesthetic is one that is VERY popular right now in Hamilton, and that probably explains why the beautiful suite was rented out immediately!Tara has a great eye for design, and for market trends, and is also very organized with excellent communication. We've enjoyed working with her so far!

> Tara was wonderful to work with. Over about a year (our timeline, due to various work demands etc.) we transformed our apartment in Kitsilano. Tara had wonderful recommendations on how to maximize the space we have and we love coming home now. She stuck to the budget and also was able to source some of our new purchases from Craiglist etc. which was important to us for environmental reasons. Would definitely recommend working with her.

**Comment from TN Interiors Inc.:**

> Thank you so much Jen for the lovely review! I really enjoyed working with you and Travis to decorate your unique home. It certainly warms my heart knowing you love your space. Wishing you both all the best!

**★★★★★ — Luxor Projects, June 2017**

> I had the pleasure of installing flooring for Butterfly Affect Designs and Tara has a fantastic understanding of material flow and utilizing/transforming any size of space into something that really stands out. It was a pleasure working with her and would highly recommend her services! The most amazing part is that she is hands on with her projects so not only talks the talk but walks the walk and that is something that is very rare to find in an interior designer. Would highly recommend!

> We came upon Butterfly Affect Design Inc. when we were trying to sell our first house. We were hoping to go through this process quickly as another opportunity opened itself to us where a speedy sale would side in our favour. Her vision of simplicity and flow along with a contemporary flare transformed our house into a warm welcoming home where we received multiple offers after the first showing. I would recommend Butterfly Affect Design Inc. for her vision and professionalism to anyone who is looking for that step above.

## Community Q&A

**Q: honest opinion on rug & curtains** *(in Home Decorating)*

I posted several times in here and many people recommended adding curtains and a rug to this room so I did a little decorating this week. Do you think- honestly - the rug is too colorful for my decor or style of room? I can return it. what about the curtains? Are they too bland. I'm getting a steamer to get all the wrinkles out but besides that what do you think about them? should I have gone for a light gray or white? my walls are very pale grayish blue.

A: Love the rug!! Suits the space beautifully and adds a bit of pizazz to the room.

**Q: Front awning or no?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My husband and I are slowly adding and marking off projects for this house We bought last year. past planting some flowers out front and scheduling to put in an actual walk way we have not done much to the front of our house.
Next to the front door we have a flower bed that sits about 2 feet below that front door step and I am wanting to build a porch under the big middle window. my question is with the way our roof sits would it make sense to build out some kind of awning? it would be ideal to have one but not sure if our diy selves could manage something to extreme

A: I really like awnings on the main entrance, specifically when they are in the same angle as the roof line. It gives a more welcoming feel to the entrance and makes the exterior look more complete...
A porch, as described, would be a great addition!

**Q: Drab exterior need help for accent, roof and door colour** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Getting a new roof and need to choose colour but want advice on how to make these exterior investments and future windows, door and aluminum accents etc pop what colours would work with this colour brick too drab right now

A: It's a beautiful house and with a little updating, it would look fab!
A black roof is always a great contrast and if you are to change the windows, you could also use black trims for the exterior as well.
Black also gives a more modern look which I think would be fitting with the exterior style of the house. Change the railings to something simpler, or even glass and a pop of colour for the door... That would already make the exterior look a lot better.
Happy designing!

**Q: Hardwood help!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I’m renovating a 1959 house and trying to keep the mid-century vibe, yet I’m also very drawn to a natural/bohemian look. I’ve attached a photo of the engineered hardwood our designer picked out (matte white oak) but I think it might be too dark. Opinions please! Thank you!

A: This is a very personal decision... if you feel it is too dark, then it will be for your taste.
It's a gorgeous colour and style of flooring and depending on how the natural light is in the room and the ceiling height, it might work really well for the space. But please follow your own gut feeling about any decision you make as this is a major project and replacing it would cost a lot and take a lot more energy...
Maybe this specific flooring comes in a slightly lighter colour?!
Happy designing!

**Q: What kind of flooring is best?** *(in Polls)*

Looking to replace our tired carpet, and considering taking the plunge into a better flooring option. We're looking for something that won't break the bank, but the final aesthetic really matters most for us. I'm a complete flooring novice - are there any good options outside of real hardwood floors?

A: Hi!
There are some great quality laminate flooring that would not only look great but also be long lasting... There is also Vinyl plank flooring which is slightly warmer on the feet and easy maintenance as well.
Sometimes, hardwood floors can be found for cheaper than the above mentioned options. Check out the clearance section of the big box stores, or even local flooring stores for some great deals.
A natural carpet such as wool or a softer version of jute would still look great depending on the space.
Have fun!

**Q: Need advice for remodeling project!** *(in Remodeling)*

I’m in a big decorating dilema!! We bought a ranch lake house that has honey oak cabinets in the kitchen, with various interior doors all stained in the honey oak other than the bedroom closets which are sliders in a blonde finish. We added on a family room so it is open to the kitchen we put in a new LVT plank flooring called Birkdale Xlarge planks in color Grand Oak Vail. If you google it you will see the color. It looks way grayer down than it did in the store under flourescent lights!! My problem is I’m not a huge gray lover when it comes to decorating so struggling with this issue!! Not sure what to do with our cabinets as far as painting?? I really wish I had picked out a floor to go with them so we didn’t have to paint them, but think that is our only choice with this floor, so wasn’t sure if white or a greige cabinet would be better we are also doing new countertops and backsplash?? We are also replacing all trim and doors, so do we do white trim/doors or white trim and stained doors or stain both doors/trim and paint cabinets?? Going between stain and paint for cupboards, trim and doors so looking for advice. If we stain anything it will be a browner stain as that looks decent with this floor.
We also have white shiplap on the ceiling in family room and BM revere pewter paint in F.R and kitchen.
We are on the lake but want it to be warm and welcoming also. Any advice you could give me would be appreciated. Want it to all pull together nicely. Thanks in advance!!!

A: Hi there,
An easy solution would be to put a different stain on the cabinets, something like a walnut if you want to go darker or a white wash to make it look lighter...
That way, you will keep the wood grain shining through. The grey floors are beautiful and could take on any tone you decorate your home with.
Either way, you could do simple white subway tile back splash and keep the trims white. White marble look quartz countertops would look beautiful and blend in harmoniously with the grey floors and they would be super easy to maintain as well.
Hope this helps... Happy designing!
