Storage is on the other side. I am not able to replace them. thanks!! A: If you choose to paint them a good amount of prep would be required. I would distress them. Check at local hardware stores for cabinet glaze you may have to get it from an actual cabinet supplier (that's where we purchase it from about $33 a qt and has a black stain look) sand with 60 grit randomly but in the same vertical direction "spot sanding to creat groves in the doors. Then apply some cabinet glaze to a white cloth and run over doors and then wipe clean after about 5-10 mins depending on temperatures repeat as needed to achieve desired color. **Q: What dining chairs go best with my new table?** *(in Design Dilemma)* I just had this table and bench custom made and I need help pairing chairs to this look. it's a beautiful 72 x 30' table, reclaimed Douglas fir with a dark walnut stain. The legs are a U shape metal, basically left in its raw steel state. What chairs go with this industrial look, without getting too matchy-matchy? A: I would go with a black leather back and dark stained legs table is modern but formal and black leather will give you formal and chair with the square cut out back adds the modern. **Q: Removing the wall of staircase** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are remodeling a new we just bought and in order to have an open floor plan and be able to see the living room through kitchen we have removed the walls of the staircase. Now I think the opening has a odd shape and it's not what I had in mind. Any suggestions? A: Open the stair case completely raise the opening height if possible by changing king and cripple studs and replace with a framed structural column in 3 areas far left far right and middle of opening. Without being on site it's difficult to see what is possible to do but I think square federal columns would look great tied in with a wrot iron or white railing. **Q: Help with my Living room eyesore** *(in Design Dilemma)* This cutout is between my living room and my office. There are a pair white shutters that cover the opening. In my office I covered up the cut out by putting my desk with the shelf in front of it. I need suggestions on how to make it less noticeable in my living room. I will be changing the wall color and will be replacing the ceiling fan. I'm considering painting the doors and trim of the cut out with the same color as the wall. A: I think that would look great. Depending on of that window is centered on the wall. If it's possible to run electrical on both sides of window there is a large selection of light fixtures that you could match to iron that would draw attention away from window possibly. Also depending on home decore you overlay 1/2" plywood over window and 6 inches past it on to face of the wall and install a reclaimed wood accent wall and just make the window hidden **Q: Fireplace makeover - HELP!** *(in Design Dilemma)* Our house came with this lovely retro fireplace (from the 60's?) that we would LOVE to get rid of. I've googled my heart out and can't seem to find makeovers with this kind of concrete brick. We are on a tiny budget, but my husband is handy and I am a great craigslist searcher. Do you have any ideas for re-doing this fireplace? And/or any ideas for how to stage the area? We are at a loss. We are hosting Thanksgiving next week (gulp) and would love to get rid of this peachy eyesore by then. MANY, MANY THANKS!! A: Mortar or lime wash it. You can google "lime washing brick" or mortar washing brick for steps and materials needed cost about $20 we actually just mortar washed an entire home a few months ago. Add side trim from floor to ceiling in a white color then above fireplace between "column trim" add reclaimed stained pallets as a accent see attached pictures for ideas. Good luck post updates when your project is finished **Q: IPE Deck tiles for 2nd floor cover decks & rooftops** *(in Other)* What has been your experience using IPE decking tiles for 2nd floor covered deck and rooftops? How do they hold up? Does furniture get caught in between tiles or slats? I found some that are 20"x 20" and weigh 11 lbs and 24" x 24" and weight 22 lbs. The difference in weight is due to the thickness of the IPE. Does it matter which weight to use? We're comparing this to plank IPE but there is some concern that since the decks will be over areas there won't be enough ventilation underneath and hence the idea to use IPE tiles. Please share your personal experience using these attractive deck alternatives. Thanks in advance! A: @at advantage lumber. I have done a lot of research about IPE and would like some more information that is contractor based bs home owner info.
