Flagship Construction Company of Vero Beach is the LAST place to go if you want Kitchen Cabinets or Closets. Jesse Forrest LIED to me and chased me away when I stopped in at their office to get them to honor their work. Building our forever home he was contracted for cabinetry and crown, baseboard , window sills, hanging doors. > To date 11/11 2023 we have paid him over 74,000 . No crown or baseboard installed. 10 doors of which 1 door severly damaged.Drywall damaged from hammer. > We have cabinets that are warped, malaligned, non sanded, color not matched. Paint runs, boxes not squared. To date only 1 vanity is complete in guest bath and the plumbing holes were cut too large and they tried to cover them with tape. On the built in finish is cracking and sitting on a cart in our great room for weeks.. I want floor-to-ceiling windows like you see on Houzz and countless other magazines. Ideally, I want each panel to be approx 4' x 8' (my ceilings are 8 feet). I'd like 5 panels total so that's 20 feet of glass. To do this, I need to create a 20 foot opening. Normally, you would need to put in a header that would support the roof above. Of course, if I put in a header, then I need to decrease the height of the windows approx 10-12 inches. I really don't want to do that. To make matters worse, the wall where I want to install the windows is cantilevered. So if I did install a header, I would need to transmit the entire load down to just 2 points on the cantilever. To support the load, I have to create some sort of bracing under the cantilevered floor which is (a) ugly and (b) requires additional engineering and effort. So my question is this: Are there any windows on the market that don't require a header? Is there anyone out there that builds frames that are strong enough to support the load of a roof (e.g. 10,000 lbs/ft)? A: Rgk gave very good advice. The short answer is no. More over most design like this do have headers and supports they add dropped ceiling and tray work to mask the dropped header/supports. The design's mentioned is called curtain glass walls . The support structure like a header is designed to the structure. The design will take in to place stuctural exposure of that particular face. ie: snow load if applicable up lift if in huricane areas etc. This will need a beam and point loads of some kind. In the end the structures again mentioned all had one thing in common they had an engineer or arcitect of record. Good luck **Q: Kitchen Cabinet painting?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Looking for advice here please. My kitchen cabinets are solid wood and in very good shape.... Apart from the fact the previous homeowners painted them and did a bad job :-( I was looking in to the "liquid sandpaper" and have read mixed reviews. So here are my questions: \* Am I right in thinking I can use TSP instead of having to sand the doors down? \* Then use primer (or chalk paint) \* Paint \* clear coat would this be the way to go? Any advice and direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks A: The quality of your product and its life will only be as good as the work before yours. For the doors strippers work fine then sponge sanding blocks. If a face framed cabinet just sand them down. With regards to paint I would us a real supply house like Bejamin moore over home depot. You will get good advise and better support. If at all possable try having the doors sprayed for you. The finished product will be higher. Cab faces use a high quality china bristle brush to apply then go back over using a foam brush. (that would be if you can't spray the boxes also). **Q: Custom Cabinetry vrs say Kitchen Craft** *(in Design Dilemma)* I am building my forever custom home and I have gotten a quote for custom cabinets for my kitchen/ laundry and bathrooms. I have been doing some shopping and I have come across some nice kitchens by Kitchen Craft. So I am wondering is there a big difference in quality between the two (besides cost)? A: You will find many differences between semi custom/hand built and box cabinetry. 1. most production cabinet company use imported wood. The glue's quality of laminations and number of laminations are very different compard to domestic products. Many have Large companies also buy the products pre finished mostly from China. They assemble in the US, but the types of finish are very different in quality. Moreover most of the moldings and some doors are now being built on an mdf core. I don't care for that. I distribute 3 lines of cabinetry, but find our hand built cabinetry can be as competetive and more personel to the consumer. We at Flagship Construction have over 140 different stain base colors and 1300 paint colors. Try to find a box cabinet company that offers that. **Q: Help selecting blinds** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi Need some suggestions on selecting blinds for the windows in the kitchen ( see photo) . These are in between the cabinets . My dilemma is to choose blinds white / cream in color or brown . If I choose brown will it be too much brown in the area considering the cabinets. Will white make the cabinets stand out more ? I am leaning towards wood or faux wood blinds . Any other suggestions on the type if blinds is also welcome . A: plantation shutters in the cab color would work well. **Q: Too much oak in my kitchen, should I stain and/or paint?** *(in Design Dilemma)* We just bought this house and hoping to be here a long time. I'm just sticking to the main level for now and specifically the kitchen. There are oak cabinets and oak trim, nice SS appliances, and updated dark granite counter tops. I'm thinking about staining or painting the cabinets dark, and painting the trim white, but do dark cabinets go with an almost black granite counter tops? (I don't want to sink too much money in it since we just spent most our money buying the house, so I'm planning on doing it myself.) Below is a pic of my kitchen (excuse the mess) and then there is a pic I found which is sort of what I'm envisioning... Thanks for your input! A: I would add a dark tone high lights to the doors and fronts. Some wood working supplys have it in spray cans. Very fast drying 5 min to touch fyi. Grizzly.com **Q: Sunroom on old farmhouse NEED HELP!** *(in Design Dilemma)* My husband is taking down this front sunroom and creating a new one we are trying to be creative, BUT COST EFFECTIVE. The floor in the sunroom is brick, any suggestions on what might look appealing, we like simple lines, and we will be adding a tin roof. A: I would do one of two things if it was my home. 1. move the room to the left side and reinvent the front to compliment the addition to right. or 2 open beam concept continue the second floor roof line down to the new sun room wall height.
