Registered Landscape Architectural Firm

9th Avenue Designs, LLC was founded on the notion that well designed space can have a profound effect on people. A properly designed space can be the place that you relax after a long day, entertain with your friends and family, it can be the space that just makes you happy. The bad news is that a poorly designed or even a poorly installed space can have the opposite effect on your life. For more than 20 years we have been working for our clients to ensure they are happy to be home.

9th Avenue Designs, LLC is different from a landscape company that focuses on the maintenance and the installation of the project. Those companies tend to have a vested interest in designing a project that will make them the most profit rather than what is best for the client. We are a Landscape Architectural Firm licensed in the state of Ohio (verify any companies license here). We specialize in working with a client to come up with a design that best suits their needs, wants, desires, home architecture, lifestyle and budget. We do not make money off the profit of the installation. After the design is completed we can work with the client to get competitive bids from vetted companies that have proved they are capable of installing a job of your scope. If quality companies are all bidding the same design you can rest assured that you all getting bids that are “apples to apples” if every company is giving prices on different designs there is no way of knowing who is the fairest price. In 2013 our job budgets ranged from $4,500 for remodeled terrace to over a $1,000,000 new installation.

**★★★★★ — gharemza, Feb. 2024**

> We had a great experience with 9th Avenue Designs. Pat helped us design our dream backyard. He was wonderful to work with. We are so happy with how everything turned out.

**★★★★★ — Sal & Allison Papalardo, Sept. 2022**

> We brought 9th Avenue Design on to handle our backyard pool project. It was a very difficult project with elevation challenges. Pat was awesome! He worked with his team to develop all of the hardscaping: walls, steps, drainage and pavers. He then turned to his landscape team to handle the lighting, irrigation and plantings. The project turned out unbelievable. My family loves it.
>
> I would highly recommend 9th Avenue Design to anyone considering a landscape project.

**★★★★★ — rocketman83, Dec. 2021**

> High quality work. Great customer service. Always available, day, night, weekends. High end vision. I was able to save money on many of the finishes because of Pat’s contacts. Highly recommended.

**★★★★★ — Alice Hoyt, Nov. 2021**

> Pat and his team are highest quality and such nice folks. We had a big home project of redoing all landscaping plus adding a deck, outdoor kitchen, patio, and garden beds. Our style was not traditional for northeast Ohio, and we really appreciated Pat going the extra mile to make sure materials we liked (e.g. “tabby” pavers) could withstand the elements in a northern climate. Unlike other landscape architects, he didn’t try to change what we wanted - he actually seemed to enjoy trying to understand what we wanted then make it happen beautifully. Work with Pat, and you won’t be disappointed!

**★★★★★ — Will, Nov. 2021**

> Pat came HIGHLY recommended and he did not disappoint us whatsoever. He listened to us first, then gave us some ideas and between what we originally discussed plus his "flavor" our yard became very Beautiful! I would give the same HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to anyone asking for someone with Pat and his team's expertise!

**★★★★★ — Benjamin Brigeman, June 2020**

> Could not be happier and more pleased with Pat and 9th Avenue! Pat was very creative in his designs, and we love what he came up with. He is very easy to work with, and most importantly, when Pat says he'll do something, it gets done. On time and as promised. We could not be happier, and highly recommend him for any size job. Our job was quite large, from design, to landscaping, sod, irrigation, tree moving, wall building, brick laying and more, and every aspect was completed with attention to detail and as promised.

**★★★★★ — Merritt Harbert, Dec. 2018**

> 9th Avenue Designs was recommended by a well-known and respected Cleveland architect. They were professional, conscientious, and pragmatic in design and cost. They kept me informed every step of the way and were on schedule to completion. I could not be more pleased with the results from the planning phase to the completed project.

**★★★★★ — Lisa Buescher, Jan. 2018**

> Pat helped us visualize different options for transforming our backyard by adding a pool and larger outdoor living space as well as a kitchen. He was patient in working through all the ideas before helping us settle on the best. He is professional, courteous and very responsive to the customer. Pat feels personally invested in his jobs and it shows in the outcome of his work.

**★★★★★ — Bill Miller, Oct. 2017**

> 9th Avenue Designs did a great job at our new house. They provided a design that fit our desires and came in on budget!

**★★★★★ — Cindy Reagan, Oct. 2017**

> Pat and his team were wonderful to work with. They talked with us and designed to our style. We have a very small yard on a steep hill, but they made it functional and beautiful.

**★★★★★ — Steven Goodman, Sept. 2017**

> Working with Wendy and Pat has been an absolute pleasure. Their firm was hired during the initial design phase of our new home and they worked seamlessly with the architect and builder. The landscape construction firm and irrigation firm that 9th Avenue recomended have been great to work with and very considerate of our time. We've already recomended 9Th Avenue to good friends who are begining their new home project.

**★★★★★ — Terrie McKelvey, Sept. 2017**

> Pat Beam, with 9th Avenue Design has created the most beautiful flowering design
> you could ever dream of....He does not do traditional, boring shrubs, he is a masterful
> landscape designer who dreams in color. Our home is breathtaking, but the landscaping
> brought the structure to life and enhanced its beauty...If you LOVE flowers, and the
> WOW factor....(9th Avenue Design in Cleveland Ohio is your company). A pleasure
> to work with, you hate the job to end.

  - Description: We can’t say too many times how much fun we had with this one. It’s true that it takes a village, the Homeowner was very hands-on and without their input, this project would have not turned out as stunning as it did. This one has it all; pool, fountain, spa, fire-pit, tennis court, roof-top gardens, guest parking, heated sidewalks, custom gates, and the list goes on. We are very fortunate to have this one in our portfolio for sure.

  - Description: What a great project to be on! We had a lot of fun on the entire yard renovation in Chagrin Falls. Upper brick terrace with stone outdoor kitchen and fire pit, lower walkout terrace, brick parking areas, barn stone pillars, and walls are all softened with landscaping that changes with the seasons.

  - Description: This project struck a couple of chords with us. The passion our clients have for gardening was wonderful. More than 20 raised garden beds, greenhouse, outdoor kitchen, ipe deck, hand-made copper lighting, and the most unique “tabby” paving that brings New Orleans to Chagrin Falls. Spring will bring the garden shed and chicken coop that will finish the entire yard renovation. Be sure to check out some of the before pictures!

  - Description: This Shaker Heights backyard renovation was a joy. Pool with sun shelf, a cedar pergola that shades the spa with waterfall, fire-pit, and bar. Paver pool terrace ties the pool and house together, low maintenance plantings that provide privacy and flowers all season long.

  - Description: We know that we sound like a broken record when we say “we had a lot of fun with this one” but my goodness this one was a blast. The homeowner had a vision and let us work with master craftsmen, artists, and reclaimed materials from all over the United States. This project has been featured in magazines, ads, and many social media posts. So many times we get calls asking where in California this project is and when we tell them that its on 13 acres in Cleveland we are met with disbelief. The lis…

  - Description: This Moreland Hills backyard renovation has everything you need to entertain. Pool with sun shelf (and diving board!) covered outdoor kitchen, cabana with fireplace, built-in hot tub, tanning platform with waterfall, custom Mahoney arched walkway, TVs and speakers everywhere, and custom tiles from Kentucky. Best of all the terrace, cabana and kitchen have heated floors for those cool evenings. Great clients=great fun

  - Location: Shaker Heights, OH
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: Wow! We had alot of fun with this one. There are not too many contemporary homes in Cleveland let alone the historic suburb of Shaker Heights. This project was a departure from the more traditional landscape architecture we normally do but due to our love of almost anything mid-century modern or any Eames chair for that matter we jumped at the chance to be a part of it. Covered outdoor living room with TV and fireplace, sunken conversation fire pit with built in seating, 2 reflecting pools (1 wi…
- [Pepper Pike, Ohio](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/pepper-pike-ohio-pj-vj~2070922)
  - Location: Pepper Pike, OH

  - Description: This back yard renovation in Pepper Pike was great from start to finish, privacy walls and outdoor kitchen veneer to match the house, pergola for shaded sitting next to the in-pool spa, sandstone pool terrace with fire pit overlooking the pool, landscape lighting to extend the evenings, and low maintenance plantings that change with the seasons
- [Waite Hill, Ohio](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/waite-hill-ohio-pj-vj~961083)
  - Location: Waite Hill, OH
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: If you have looked through our work at all you have seen this project a lot and with good reason. We have been very fortunate the past few years with wonderful projects and clients but this one will go down as one of our favorites. The clients were involved from the start and we had a blast. Not too many times these days we design a separate guest drive (request directly from client), reflecting pool & fountain complete with sugar kettles from South Carolina, beautiful stone walls and some of th…

  - Location: Hunting Valley, OH
  - Photos: 17
  - Description: We are lucky to count this renovation/add-on as one of ours. This international travel supplied us with a warehouse of items from all over the world. On more than one occasion we received texts at 3 am with pictures from an auction in France or Spain saying “ should we buy this for the house?” P.S. we said yes every time! A fountain was designed because of a 100-year-old spigot, a fireplace was designed because we could use a 150-year-old vertical sundial above the mantel, statue of Budia became…
- [Lake Lucerne](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lake-lucerne-pj-vj~961109)
  - Location: Chagrin Falls, OH
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: Another great project that we completed in 2013. Rear Terrace that services the lower level walk out is accessible from the lawn and the upper terrace with built in fire place. The most exciting part of the project is that the clients were truly outside people and would get us excited everytime we met. Lower level terraces features a sandstone terrace that has "old school" tangent and ashlar cuts but the focal point is undoubtably the round stone steps flanked by two hand cut sandstone piers. Th…

  - Location: Hunting Valley, OH
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: This is a great example of listening to the client. When we first started concepts for this project we had hand cut stacked stone walls and pillars, and while the client liked the original layout fine we could tell that it did not really get them going. These are the wonderful projects where we get to know the client throughout the process and in doing so knew that they did not really want clean lines, they wanted rustic materials like recycled curbstone steps, stone outcropping walls that range…

  - Description: When we were asked to design this back yard we were intrigued. The client being a builder knew the components that he and his family wanted. The scope of work included terrace for dinning, outdoor kitchen and an ornamental pond. In the end we incorporated an upper terrace for the dining area and since there was a severe grade change we designed a lower terrace with kitchen and fireplace as a secondary area to relax and listen to the ornamental stream and pond while looking at the wooded lot. ## Community Q&A

**Q: Pavers and coping** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you please share what was used here? Beautiful!

A: Hi, thanks for the question. The pool coping is sandstone, terrace is techo bloc blu series
thanks again, have a great day
pat

**Q: can you link the pool chaises?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Interested in details about the pool chaises

A: Pat

**Q: Fire pit top** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you tell me what material and color the fire pit top is? This is beautiful.

A: Thanks, the top and sides are sandstone.

**Q: Stone** *(in Photo Questions)*

This is beautiful. May I ask what type of stone you used on the patio and the bar? Was the stone sanded before installation?

A: Hello. thank you, that was a fun job. that is a cultured stone that matches the house. sorry i cant remember the name

**Q: POOL FINISH** *(in Photo Questions)*

WHAT IS THE POOL FINISH, PEBBELE TEC, EC AND WHAT COLOR WAS USED?

A: Hi Kathy, we sometimes see slight mottling but usually not a permanent problem. after about a month it tends to go away. Very important to stay on top of the chemicals and PH

**Q: I love this design. What type of pool cover did you use?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Very impressed with your design. I especially love using the recycled pool water instead of the hot tub for the waterfall.

A: thank you, we had a lot of fun with this one. There is an automatic cover at the far end of the pool. It rolls up in a vault that is tough to see from this picture. We are adding another project this weekend too
