## Community Q&A

**Q: Need input please. :)** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm trying to figure out if the rug is too small for the space, thinking about a more voluminous one. I also was wondering what type of coffee table in front of the couch. Lastly what chairs to get for the right of the couch. I'll be getting rid of the chair that is there right now. I'm finding myself looking at all the same wood finish as you can see by my media stand. Any input is appreciated! Thanks guys.

**Q: Design for new plan for living-dining area** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Need help changing living area to living-dining area. Fireplace wall willl be dark brown accent wall. TV to remain in same area. Walls will be cream color. One doorway to right of present couch location. Dining room table 42x60 will be to rear of living space with kitchen doorway to rear of table. Entrance way to right of table if looking toward kitchen. Need assistance with all decorating! All new furniture being purchased. Questions: Should I keep mirror in same location to face window or put on another wall. Is picture above fireplace dated? or should it stay or be relocated? What furniture pieces would the
best fit for max seating and good traffic flow. Would like to have 2 recliners in design if possible. I
need help to update area. Thank you for all the advice-

A: Where are you located?

**Q: Help! Window and door curtains** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Just moved into a new rental and am clueless what to do with this window next to our front door. They are the only windows in our living room so I really want to showcase them, but I am unsure now. There's not enough space between to hang a full panel, and if I do that I am worried the door will look out of place with no curtains. What should I do?

I attached a picture of the rest of our living room. It's still a work in progress you can see the colors I'm going with.

Thank you for any advice!

**Q: Need help redecorating** *(in Design Dilemma)*

It's time for a change. The (expensive) rug stays, the white love seat and the tables. Everything else can be changed. There is a lot of pink in the rug so I am limited as to what colors to pull out of it. Any ideas? Ditch the rug and start over?

**Q: HELP: Our tiny condo looks like a college dorm, says friend** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My husband and I, plus our three cats, live in this condo and need to finally get around to decorating our place! We're not very artistic and are on a tight budget but recently our friend came over and said our place looks like a college dorm and it finally hit me...we need some help. HA!
A few overall notes:

The living space is small, not much room to work with - we need to focus on economy of space
The dark wood floors and the black furniture, leather sofa makes the space looks dark - I'm open to getting rid of all the black furniture - but if you have any creative ways to salvage it without making the room look dark, please advise!
Our dining table is an IKEA extendable table so it actually gets much longer than is in the picture, we have those two dining chairs and then in the sunroom (with the gray curtain) which we never use (!) there's an IKEA bench that goes with the dining table behind the black IKEA coffee table....yeah...I used to think IKEA was the only place for furniture...a bit overdone. There's also a black bookshelf in the sunroom that's not shown in the pictures.
Ignore the hodge podge of sticky notes on the corkboard...we used that for a while to organize some prayer requests from our small group but our cats are attacking it so it NEEDS TO COME DOWN

Things that I like and want to keep:

The sofa is actually a L-shaped leather couch that my dad gave us. We separated it to make the place feel bigger but it actually does the opposite. I'd like to reattach it and work around it!
I like our light fixture above the dining table!

We hope to save up money to completely refloor our entire place with slate-colored porcelain tiling - but that's in the future and not anytime soon.
Any advice would be great! So far, based on my perusing this website, I realize we need to do the following things:

Get a lightly colored patterned rug to anchor the room where the sofa will be
Re-attach L-shaped couch and place it at an angle?
Get rid of black coffee table and get a transparent/glass/plastic one
Get rid of black dining room table and chairs (? unless we can salvage without keeping room dark) and buy smaller, less blocky and light colored dining furniture

**Q: Place and space for bookshelves/built ins?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are working on redecorating our living room and I'm hoping you all can help me find a place to put some built ins or other bookcases. I love to display books and other items collected from our travels (which are mostly small and only look good grouped together) but can't figure out where to put them in the new space.
The couch, coffee table, TV cabinet and console table are new. We can move/reorient most everything but the couch. I know we need art, a rug and some more lighting and we are working on it using ideas from Houzz and all the threads I have been reading. Thanks in advance!
