We hired Carly to find the perfect balance between professionalism, warmth and new age edginess. We were hoping that a designer that had experience with both residential and commercial would be the best fit and we lucked out. She nailed it!! The pieces Carly proposed for the various hallways and restrooms and common area spaces (both interior and exterior) where perfect. She understood our desires after just one phone call and one on site meeting. We ended up substituting some of her proposed pieces with local artists to support the community, and Carly was very helpful, including these prints in the overall design plan and elevation although it would not be a part of her vendor provisions. Instead, it's been a costly nightmare causing undue trauma, leaving the job unfinished and with inappropriate out of scale furnishings. > > I paid her $10,000 for design services and about $40,000 for furniture following her recommendations (purchased the furniture from her at her at least 40% markup). Yet basic measurement errors caused delays, expensive fixes and shipping costs and delays, none of which she appropriately addressed. I was told that if I didn't like the furniture, I could put it on Facebook marketplace, etc. and resell it - vs. taking responsibility for her errors. > > Nine months later, I still don't have a dining table, an essential part of the design. We have been eating on a small office desk this entire time. The space looks terrible in photos and is impractical in real life. For example, the couch edge cuts right at my knee leaving my legs up in the air and not reaching the floor. I suppose we were challenging clients, in that we had no idea what our budget was and I had a rustic coffee table and shelf-unit we had recently acquired that we loved and wanted to keep in the space, but really wanted to "upscale" the room despite these pieces (I mean - a little barn wood and metal is fun; too much and we're searching for fresh eggs on the floor each morning). Carly did an amazing job of getting us out of our comfort zone with high quality products that let us live our normal life in the space. (Velvet chairs and a light tan sectional - with two boys! But the pieces are durable AND gorgeous) Beyond that, here are some of my personal favorites about working with Carly and her team - They were patient with me. Since I had no real budget in mind, and my husband is an accountant, we probably micro-analyzed costs on each item a little too much. Example: I would splurge on a custom sofa, but when our 'must have' sectional pricing came in super high with our selected, Carly scoured a warehouse to find some similar discontinued fabric that fit our project perfectly, and hit my 'imaginary' budget. Timing - I didn't have a specific project timeline in place, and wasn't ready to make all the decisions up front. Carly's team paced the project out perfectly, adding elements that would make an impact as I made decisions, but stuck with me when I said "hold on a while." > > I can hardly finish this up without mentioning the GORGEOUS wall treatment she found for us for the space behind our fireplace. We asked for some texture and this wallpaper blew our minds. > > Carly and her team have created a living space where our family can relax together, but also where we can entertain friends in a comfortable, cozy, elegant room.
