Since 2004, TBO's Landscaping has built both memorable landscapes and a respected name in the White Rock & South Surrey communities. We prioritize high quality, eco-friendly craftsmanship and outstanding service. Our goal is to treat each project as if it were our only project, and also to treat this environment as if it were our very own.

We live in a truly remarkable place. What better way is there to enjoy the elements, than to build a bit of outdoor living space at home?

Each of our clients needs is different. For some, the perfect oasis may be a bubbling boulder fountain—for others, it may be a long stretch of artificial turf with a koi pond. > I had dead grass throughout my yard and after the installation of synthetic turf the yard looks and feels amazing, we can go out and enjoy our space, whereas before we never went back there.
>
> TBO'S was beyond helpful. I live in a strata complex and getting approval took along time as there was always new information the counsel needed. TBO'S provided all information and more so I could get approval and get my yard turfed.
>
> Rob and his staff were really helpful and scheduled us in as soon as they could. I definitely think it was a great decision and I should have had it done sooner!

> I got turf installed on my front yard this summer and I'm really pleased with it. My kids like playing better on the turf than my lawn in my back yard....and no more watering, and cutting. Since I got my turf installed many of my neighbours follow my ideas.

> it was nice dealing with Rob and his team, they delivered the installation on-time, being professional, and exceed my expectations,

## Community Q&A

**Q: Privacy screen for deck** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We would like some suggestions for adding privacy at either ends of our deck. We are extending the existing structure by 10 ft., but as you can see in photos, neighbors decks on both sides sit much higher than ours. Any suggestions would be welcome.

A: A cedar arbour/privacy screen would add privacy and make the area feel much more grande. I attached a photo of something we built for clients who also had privacy concerns:

**Q: Back Yard best option ? Can I remove bushes and put grass?best option?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

A: I think your backyard would look best if the garden edges were defined better with a small basalt stone garden-wall or even a 4x6 pressure treated lumber. A "Dutch hoe" garden tool will help easily get the weeds & grass removed. Use boxwood to hide the green electrical box if need be. Top up the garden bed with some hemlock/fir mulch if you can, and the garden will be looking sharp in no time!

**Q: Exterior Redesign Help!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am finally ready to redo the outside of my home. But I am not sure how to figure out what will look best. I think I want to replace the current siding with brick to give it a uniform look then paint each brick individually multiply shades of brown and beige then do the trim white, stain the driveway. I am currently getting an estimate to change the direction of the steps to face front and having a pathway put in. Then the landscaping will need attention.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Help?

A: A boxwood hedge along the front entrance will make it feel a little more formal but also soften up the appearance of all that brick & siding.

**Q: Backyard design** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We just moved into our new home built on a one acre lot with a flat backyard. We are all over the place with what to do with the backyard - deck, patio, screened in porch, fireplace, may be a swim spa (we definitely don't have the budget for a pool)

We are okay with doing up the space in stages and are looking for ideas within our budget of 25000$

We are a family of three (one year old baby) and have no pets. I know it's quite an open ended design dilemma but we are looking for advice on how to design a backyard from scratch.

We want a space to entertain (large dining), a fire pit area and may be a casual patio seating set. If we do a deck, we are keen on composite (Trex)

A: It definitely sounds like your best option is to take a few screen shots from Houzz of things you like. Interview 1-3 design companies and show them your screen shots. Our design is $75/hr and when clients have pics of items they like it makes the whole process much quicker & cheaper. For the $500-700 ballpark upfront cost of design... It's a pretty cheap peace of mind! It's always cheaper to draw it on paper and start from scratch if you don't like it rather changing the landscape at a later date

**Q: landscaping advice** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi all! I just moved into my first home and we have a blank slate of a yard with tons of potential but I'm overwhelmed about where to start and how to design a beautiful, cost and labor efficient garden! I'm in the Northeast so would like to do flowers and shrubs that do well in this climate and don't require too much maintenance - mostly perennials. I would also like to do some raised beds for vegetables somewhere in the yard. The great majority of the yard is full sun for most of the day with the exception of the areas under the trees. Any advice of design or where to begin would be greatly appreciated!

A: Adding a meandering brick-paver pathway to the front entrance and to the back door. It will make your place feel much more welcoming! Here's a pic for an example of the pavers I'm talking about:

**Q: I want to make it beautiful** *(in Landscape Design)*

By accident I happened to find this wonderful forum. What a fortunate
discovery! I really like the ideas and advice here.
We bought this house spring 2015 and have spent summer and
fall putting on a roof and "cleaning up" outdoors. No one had done
anything outdoors for a very long time.
I'd like to develop a nice landscape plan over the winter
and I'm surfing for suggestions. The plan will start with the front of the house
and then wrap around to the rear, but for now I just posted pics of the front.
This is a new part of the country for us, very wooded in the
natural areas, so I expect there will be a need to experiment a bit and we are
very open to suggestions.
Problems we have noticed so far include deer infestation
(they ate all new of the hostas planted in the spring and they nonchalantly
graze on the bushes and flowers in the neighborhood), clay soil, and lots of
moles, chipmunks, and squirrels. Also, we have a beautiful, mature black walnut
tree in the backyard limiting what can grow well.
Zone 5-6
Landscape Goals: Improve curb appeal, increase privacy, and create a warm
inviting feel. Flower, vegetable, and herb garden (may need to be
containers due to pesty deer, etc).

Please, I'd love to respond to your questions!

A: What a beautiful house, marksa12! Have you considered two water features, or 1 water feature and a sitting area? It would add some beautiful, surprise interest to your entrance, as well as outdoor living space.
