In the kitchen they installed the lower cabinets and countertop too low so the oven was sticking out like a sore thumb. Once they raised the lowers (and installed new countertop) they also needed to re-install the uppers to get enough clearance. They fixed it. The countertop was fabricated badly and they had to replace it, along with the peninsula countertop that they did incorrectly. The backsplash was installed unevenly and had to be replaced by a professional tile guy. The electrical work had tons of issues and they failed inspection twice. They fixed some of the issues but in the end my husband had to finish the electrical job for them because they had no idea how to fix it. The painting of the rest of the house was done so poorly that we decided to bring over a different set of contractors to strip the walls and redo the painting. > > I gave them the second star because they were willing to fix their mistakes and finish the job (mostly). Still, It was a really bad experience and also took forever to complete. Green Bay Remodeling closed my job after final payment, leaving a shower drain that leaks to the subfloor, incredible as it seems. > > In the interest of full disclosure, some 3 weeks after a bathroom remodel project completion that was 8 weeks late, I went to clean the hair collector in the linear drain and observed an 3/16 inch gap where the linear drain was offset from the drain pipe. Water was free to leak through this opening and into the subfloor space. It took 21 days for Green Bay to fix this problem. And they fixed it without griping. But according to the City inspector, this is not something the CIty inpsector checks. > > Again, as I experienced throughout this project, a simple attention to detail by the project manager could have caught and corrected before leaving the job. Either he knew and did not tell me or was not aware of this very simple thing, either way very poor performance. > > Think twice about hiring this company, they are not 4-stars, regardless of what the reviews state. No 4-star contractor would let problem after problem drag on, nor tolerate employees that concluded this job with a shower that leaks into the subfloor, nor tolerate an project manager and supervisor that hide, obfuscate, and refuse to admit the company did anything wrong. From my experience with Green Bay Remodeling, my problems were not just because of one crew, or one project manager, or one supervisor, but rather there appears to be a systemic problem at the company: little attention to detail at the project level and not being transparent with the client, and a mentality on up the management chain where everyone says the same mantra: “you have a fantastic bathroom, what’s the problem?" > > I do not have fantastic bathroom, even though that is what Green Bays tells me. I did not get everything I wanted on this project. > > Green Bay seems eager to honor, and respond to, and repair, warranty problems such as mine. With Green Bay you will eventually get pretty much what you want and a quality product, but you have to be very careful. A contractor is only as good as it laborers doing the actually work. Yes, they were responsive and attempted to fix problems that came up…. BUT the amount of issues and the quality of the work was completely unacceptable. And that is what matters at the end of the day because that’s what I see every time I go into my bathroom and want to cry about the time, stress and money wasted on this company. Our project manager liked to remind us that this was our first remodel and we just didn’t understand how the industry works. Right from the beginning after talking with him for a short while we felt an instant connection. He was very knowledgeable and had so many great ideas and suggestions. This guy had a bad attitude and moved it so the holes didn't align with the shower fixtures. They estimated that the project would take 4 weeks (a bit aggressive, we know). I was nearly 5 months pregnant at the time, so it was important that the project be finished well before the baby arrived, but even if it took 2x the estimate we would have been in good shape. Fast-forward FOUR MONTHS and we were bringing a newborn home to a construction zone. The 3 of us spent her first month all sleeping in the nursery because THEY WERE STILL WORKING. Awful, right? But that wasn't even the worst part. > > I will include several pictures so that you can see for yourself the quality - or lack thereof - you can expect from this company. When we pointed out major issues (such as the drain being installed improperly), Zack the project manager told us that we were crazy. Eventually, they brought someone else in and he found even more issues than we did (like the slope of the floor we paid extra for was done wrong). The new lead contractor fixed a lot of the issues, but wasn't able to fix all, plus some new ones popped up. Here are some of the issues that remain: > > \- Floor tile installed crooked > \- Wall and floor tiles chipped and damaged, including those that required no cuts > \- Didn't allow proper cure time on grout, so our black grout appears patchy grey/white from all the dust that got into it. > \- Giant chunk of floor tile missing and patched in with sort of filler product. > \- Shower niche was supposed to be centered, but it is off by a noticeable amount > \- Brand new vanity damaged > \- Cut a chunk out of the drywall and never repaired > \- Never used painters tape and left messy edges everywhere, including painting over finishes > \- Screwed up our electrical, which had to be redone by a professional electrician. > > There were also a few money issues that came up. For example, we had to re-purchase tile multiple times so they could fix errors (such as cutting tile that wasn't supposed to be cut). Zack promised to reimburse us for certain items that they were supposed to supply or that they destroyed (and yes, I have this in writing), but he never did so. We did ultimately agree that we wouldn't render the final payment and they wouldn't do anymore work, however the amount "saved" from that payment doesn't even come close to covering our excess costs due to their incompetency, let alone the cost of labor and materials to fix all of their mistakes. > > A few other complaints: They were very messy and didn't clean up after themselves. Even when asked (repeatedly) they just did the bare minimum cleaning. They punched a hole in our floor and into our neighbors ceiling, and took months to fix it. They thought they were being helpful by unboxing and moving a piece of nursery furniture from our entryway into our living room (2 flights up), however we felt it was inappropriate and they damaged that, too. I felt Zack was very pushy and the "your spouse must be present to get an estimate" rule was so that they could high-pressure you into signing the contract and giving a deposit right then. They were constantly asking for a positive review - you can bet that all of the 5 star reviews here were solicited. They even offered to fix mistakes they made in exchange for a positive review. The only positives are that most of the people there were polite and friendly, they did deliver a functional bathroom and never disappeared on us even when they knew they screwed up badly. Things go wrong on any project, in our case, there was mold found when the shower was demolished, and Home Depot lost our shower door once, and then couldn’t get it reordered in a timely manner. > Simon was great to work with. When he said “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it”, he did take care of it. He did not get flustered or upset. He worked with us when we ran short on tile and helped us get it ordered with Green Bay’s help. They waited for the final payment until we had our custom shower door installed so we could test the plumbing. The crew was great – my husband is very particular and if he didn’t like how something was done, it was corrected. > > If we were to do this project over, I would hire Green Bay and ask for Simon as our project manager again. The premier example of Ray's expertise, integrity and caring came when our vanity countertop was installed. There was a small but quite noticeable flaw in the counter - a seam that was slightly open. When I went to look at the installed counter, my eye went straight to that spot, and I knew it was something I could never overlook. Ray totally agreed, so he had the installers remove the counter immediately and go back to cut a new one. It was an uncomfortable moment, but the new counter was able to be cut to size and installed the next day - at no extra expense to us - and is a critical part of the look of our beautiful new bathroom.
