First coat of wax made the richness come out and we loved the look. Over the past week a number of blemishes have appeared that we cannot get out. Did all the reading, including a similar post from 2009 stating they hired someone to resurface their counters with a different grit. Before we head down that path I would like to get some thoughts on the problems we are seeing. Some spots - tried waxing over. Below is a stain that came from the bottom of our hot water heater. The stains match the rubber feet of the heater. Used dawn soap and light sanding with a scotch pad- no luck Some water spots near the sink Suggestions on how to get this counter to the advertised state? Thanks in advance A: I'm sure you've already gotten this taken care of. But still wanted to point out, that all you or the fabricator would have to do is sand it and reapply the oil/wax of your choice. We had our Mirasol Black Moon Soapstone installed last May unfortunately by a fabricator that I don't think knew what he was talking about. He insisted we needed to put a beeswax on to seal it and did one coat himself before we knew he was doing it. Then he told me to continue to coat it twice a day for a week, so I did and I started noticing it seemed really residue-y and built up with wax. Not the honed finish we wanted! So then we did our research (because we wanted to trust the professional at first) and read that it is not necessary to wax. So! My DH then went through the painstaking process of trying to acetone (industrial grade) the counters to remove some of the wax - maybe he did? Not sure. This is from last May/June. Now, I've been noticing that there is some yellow residue coming up in some of the areas and I can't get it off. I've tried marble paste, soap and water, acetone and mineral oil and it will not come up. I've tried to post pics of it but its is more pronounced in reality. Has anyone experienced this and have any ideas how to remove it to just get the nice gray/black and white streaks we wanted when we picked out the slabs? Thanks for any help!!!!!Hopefully you can kind of see the yellow "Chunks" that I'm talking about! They are a little rough to the touch, but I haven't yet figured out how to eradicate them! THANK YOU FOR YOUR INSIGHT! A: Hi Catie, I had to chime in when reading this! We're kind of the soapstone pro's on the West Coast :-) The yellow/gold inclusions are actually Iron Pyrite deposits. It's a mineral that is embedded in the stone when it formed. You'll find them in a lot of Soapstone. They're also in Calacatta Marble. In fact, a lot of people want them in there marble, specifically because they're kind of an emblem of Authentic Calacatta from Italy. They tend to be more dark silver, where the ones in soapstone are more gold.
