We had interviewed several other contractors, including a couple of design/build firms, but Bill Fry is that rare combination of "really good guy" and "really excellent contractor". Our home is on a slope, and we were concerned about a lumpy floor and possible foundation/structural issues - so we needed Bill's experience and expertise. He also referred us to interior designer Lori Churi/LCID. Together, they were the "dream team". It turned out our home didn't have foundation problems, but the design nevertheless required major structural work, including a 30 ft. steel beam for the roof that was lowered into place with a crane. Our neighbor brought his toddler son out to watch that exciting/nail-biting maneuver! We were also impressed with the rapport and long-standing relationship Bill had with his subcontractors, many of whom he uses exclusively. He has a high standard for subs, and it really showed in their workmanship. We remodeled our previous home twice and thought that was done pretty nicely, but the work Bill did on our current home really raises the bar. Now we notice details that we were previously oblivious to, like baseboard moulding scribed to the floor (What? No quarter round to hide the gap?). What we appreciated the most about Bill, though, is how responsive he was to our questions and needs - He's a good listener and a thoughtful problem solver. We are back in our house for the holidays, entertaining every weekend and totally loving our newly completed remodel! Is it multiple pieces or one solid piece? Any idea where I could get something similar? A: The cap was made of natural stone.
