> We engaged Ms. Appleton for a home remodel. She did a rough pencil sketch for us (she said she doesn't do 3D renderings and is "old school") which did not meet our needs. We asked her to hold off a little while so we could do some research and figure out what we want before wasting a ton of money going back and forth on new drawings. Then when we tried to reengage her to get started, she said she'd send us some times to meet up and then blew us off entirely. Over a month later I get a bill for $425. For an unusable pencil drawn sketch.

> I love Cathy Johnson Appleton for so many reason! She was my business partner in Appleton Clark Interiors for more than 11 years! We've laughed, we've cried, we've driven each other crazy and we've loved each other for a lifetime! She's my best friend and I can't imagine life without her! She's the most amazing designer I know! I wouldn't dream of doing a design project without her, including in my own home! We recently moved to the beach and changed our whole look! Every time I come home, it's a Pinch Me moment... I can't believe I live here and I don't want to leave! Thank You Cathy for making me feel about my own home the way our clients always felt about theirs! \#lovingitforlife

> My first mistake in decorating my 5,000 square foot office, was not calling Cathy Appleton FIRST! I first called a local decorator in Atlanta whose resulting "reveal" of the decorated office made me cry. Then I called Cathy at Appleton interiors.
>
> I spend at least 60 hours per week in my office and I wanted it to be a place where I wanted to spend time. After Cathy and Appleton Interiors became involved, my office is gorgeous! In fact, I have a hard time getting visitors to leave my office and EVERYONE who comes in comments on the fact that this is the most beautiful medical space they have ever seen. From the paint colors, to the art work and the little touches of décor, curtains and even our logo, Cathy has captured my taste in ways that I could never have imagined. I cannot wait for Cathy (Appleton Interiors) to decorate my home.....maybe I will then spend more time there!
>
> Cathy worked within the budget provided and even accomplished the task of this office space in 3 different blocks of time in order to make the costs easier, yet the space looked great with each block. I love being in my office!!! We are taking on more space soon and I truly look forward to what she does.
>
> I have attached a few before and after photos - - - it will be quite obvious which ones were the BEFORE and those which are the AFTER. The only other comment is that my poor quality telephone photos do not serve Cathy's decorating the deserved justice yet they still capture the beauty.

> Appleton Interiors transformed our home by creating a unique and stylish look that is both contemporary and authentic. We were introduced to this company after they did a fantastic job designing a sophisticated look for our parents home. Cathy brought fresh ideas to each room that all bridged together in a way that flowed wonderfully. Most importantly, my wife was thrilled and 100% happy wit the results. We ended up having Appleton Interiors make recommendations for our front and back porches, all fixtures inside and out, artwork, and window treatments. We were very grateful that we found a company that took this job very seriously and delivered a great result.
>
> We fully endorse Appleton Interiors and Cathy for a trusted resource in listening to our needs and designing our home for our family.

> We were incredibly delighted with the high quality and exceptional work Appleton Interiors delivered. Their high level of knowledge and experience and attention to detail helped ensure we would receive the best work product and design.
>
> In addition, the positive attitudes and high energy made working with the company a wonderful experience.

> I've been working with Cathy for several years during the holiday season for decorations. I shared with her that I was working on opening a coffee shop and was looking for a designer. She reminded me that was her profession and we started promptly working on the design.
>
> It was truly a pleasure working with Cathy on the coffee shop project. She was the consummate professional. She was always ready to accept and suggest changes that are sure to come during the design process. Her demeanor was consistently pleasant. Cathy helped shape the project into an unforgettable experience. I receive compliments on the clean lines, the choice of colors and the inviting atmosphere.
>
> I will and have recommended Cathy as a reliable and talented designer.

> We bought a new, completely unfurnished 3000 sq. ft. home in early 2003 in Solivita, a 55- and older active retirement community in Poinciana. We hired Appleton Interiors to furnish and accessorize our home. We were snowbirds then, so Cathy had access to our new home while we were up North. She and her team took our blank slate and turned it into a beautiful place to live. They did everything, from choosing and arranging for painting and wallpapering, upgrading lighting fixtures, purchasing and installing all of our furniture, ceiling fans, window treatments, replacing carpeting with tile in the living/dining area, adding area carpets to the other tiled areas, designing and installing very attractive office furniture for our home offices, and even selecting outdoor furniture for our front porch and lanai. When we later converted our screened lanai into a completely closed-in, glass 4-season sunroom, they furnished that room as well. All of this work was completed in our personal style preferences, which Cathy was able to glean beautifully from discussions with us. We couldn't be happier with the result, and our home is just as beautiful today as when the work was completed. In fact, our home was featured in a six-page photo spread in Open House Magazine in 2007. Appleton Interiors was a pleasure to work with throughout the project. We heartily recommend Appleton Interiors for any of your interior design needs.

> Cathy Appleton, owner of Appleton Interiors, is an exceptional interior designer. She first helped me several years ago with rearranging the living and dining room areas for a better feel to the house, window treatments, and adding a flair to the tray ceiling in the dining room. She also made changes to the foyer making it more inviting and welcoming. I am still so pleased with everything that I have made no adjustments or changes and probably never will!!!
>
> Last year, she designed and installed window treatments for the library, front game room and guest bedroom, dressed up the front porch so it looks inviting and absolutely fabulous, and added cornices to the master bedroom.
>
> She is wonderful to work with - listens to your wants and your budget and makes you feel comfortable from the start of the project to its completion.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Crypton Fabric input!!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am buying a Taylor King sofa (Cozy Creation), finally found a size that fits my needs. Their solid fabrics seem to be somewhat limited. Ideally I was looking for a linen LOOK or a tight basket weave in a light creamy beige. So I was/ am considering a Crypton fabric, Bayou Porcelain. I was hoping for a warmer color, but I could not find one. So I did a test on Bayou Porcelain sample, I put ketchup on it. Took a while for the ketchup to come off, I was using a netted sponge and a little dish detergent diluted with water. The stain came out, but some of the threads look pulled and it still smells like ketchup? The other fabric I was considering by Crypton was Silex Snow. I did not really want white, but it was a warm white and it looked nice. When I went on this site I saw a post about Silex Snow, what a coincidence!!! A woman was very dissatisfied with this fabric, after three months it turn to a grayish white. I am looking for feedback on Crypton fabrics, durable, colors and cleaning issues.
Thank you.
PS This picture is not a Crypton fabric, but I am looking for a similar color.

A: I’m a designer and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but…At first I was pleased to hear about Crypton fabrics - it seemed like a dream come true. Durable, easy stain removal - who wouldn’t want that?!
What they DONT tell you is that this fabric pills a LOT! Over time, where everyone sits and/or rests their feet, it begins to pill from the friction of moving and pretty soon the fabric looks TERRIBLE!
I would recommend selecting a natural fiber (cotton, linen, etc.). While they won’t have the ease of stain removal, you can have the company from which you order the furniture piece gray the fabric with a stain repellant, or you can use a Scotchgard type product and apply it yourself.

**Q: Living room & dining room** *(in Photo Questions)*

Beautiful. May I know where the dining room table and living room sofas are from? Thank you

A: Hi there! All of the furnishings were ordered by me for the customer. The dining table is by Bernhardt and the sofa is by Wesley Hall. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. Thank you for your inquiry!

**Q: How to BRIGHTEN up my dining room?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Looking to add color or brighten the room. Liked the idea of having my table and chairs neutral, but now I feel like its gone too far and is lacking life. Don't like that the buffet blends in with the wallpaper. Should I paint it white? Also, not crazy about the picture. Seems too dark. Help!!

A: Didn't realize until after my comment that your chandelier is bronze -- do a bronze rod instead to chrome. (Would have liked to have seen chrome fixtures -- they reflect light and brighten a room).

**Q: how do i update and lighten this large oak bookcase/shelf.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Large oak fireplace/bookshelfs in a long rectangular room. We have just added more recessed lighting to help. I prefer stone and a lighter color for the shelves. Painting oak does not look good and I don't want to just add lighting or wall paper to the back of the bookshelf walls. Need something fresh and light on the clean but traditional side.

A: I would paint the whole thing the trim color in the rest of the room.

**Q: Color behind open shelving or not?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

After making changes to my kitchen from my previous post, I now need to know if I should paint the color behind the shelves....Deciding now will make it much easier to install the rest of the shelves.

A: If I went with a color, as I might be tempted to do, I'd select a shade or two darker than the color it is now. If that's not an option, I'd be tempted to select a neutral color out of your stone and paint the breadboard that color. I DEFINITELY would not put a color in that very neutral kitchen!

**Q: Need help deciding on red brick or white brick??** *(in Design Dilemma)*

What would you do? I need some advice on red or white brick...we are planning on doing black roof either way. My profile icon is a sample of what it would look like with a red brick. We built ours a little different than the picture.

A: I would definitely do a white brick. It will be a stand-out in your setting! White will also stand the test of time. You have a lovely house! Please post pictures when it’s finished!
