Thank you A: this is a custom table **Q: Can you refinish plank sub-flooring....and live on it?** *(in Design Dilemma)* We (finally) got the keys to our first home today and the first thing we did was rip out all of the old carpet to see what was underneath. The good: original red oak hardwood in hallway and one bedroom: The bad: wood plank sub-flooring in living, dining rooms and the other two bedrooms: Here's my question: Can we stain and refinish this plank wood like it was hardwood and use it as our floor? We can't afford to buy and install new hardwood right now and DO NOT want carpet, at least in our living and dining rooms. I've been looking all over the internet and haven't seen much about refinishing plank sub floors. I did, however, determine that this wood is probably Fir. We move in two weeks and would like to get the floor situation figured out before we have to bring in furniture... what would you do? Try to refinish plank? Maybe paint it? Help! Oh, and the house is a 3 bed, 1 bath ranch style built in 1946 and located in Long Beach, California. A: the floor looks pretty good. of course i can't smell if there is cat residue from living up there! i also can't tell about the size of the gaps.101 years old there's plenty of dust below the boards and that could be a concern. if they are too wide- we have taken flooring up and re-installed it- time consuming but looks great. good luck send photos!! **Q: Our new Beach House!** *(in Before & After)* We found a wonderful gem this spring on Hood Canal (Puget Sound) in the Pacific Northwest. We are updating the entire space to bring a warmer feel to the home. The 80s abounded throughout but we saw past that and fell in love with the large picture windows, spacious rooms and open concept. We've completely gutted the kitchen, took out an old pellet stove and replaced with a gas unit, replaced funky gray parquet floors with beachy hardwoods and new paint throughout and now installing T&G hemlock ceilings. New lighting throughout (will post in more detail once complete. Pleased with our progress so far! Phase 2 will be gutting bathrooms! A little more grouting to do in the new kitchen. Big change is the stove on the back wall to free up the peninsula. Need to find some fun stools now. Old pellet stove replaced with a gas fireplace and new stone. Overlayed right over the brick. Before we painted and started installing the T&G ceilings. all of the mill work will be replaced and white.
