It turned out he had done work for some neighbors so it appeared to be a good choice. Our agreement was structured such that John would mulch around my trees, do some spring cleanup, and edge around my plant beds, and treat the lawn with the necessary chemicals needed throughout the year. In return, I agreed with him that I would provide monthly installments so that by the end of the year, the balance would be paid in full. All of my yard work was going to cost about $2000, so I planned on sending him $200/month. > > I sent monthly installments as promised. However, half-way through the season, I received a voicemail from John that basically said "your account has been placed on hold until you make payment in full." I called him to remind him that our agreement was that I'd provide monthly payments, and that my account would be paid in full by the end of the year, but he responded by saying that I would remain on hold until it was fully paid off. > > I understand payment structures can be an issue for a small business. Had he called and said that he needed more than $200 per month, I would have been happy to discuss. But to receive a rude voicemail that said that he would put my account on hold till it was paid in full was unprofessional.
