> Johanne redesigned our powder room a couple of years ago and we were absolutely thrilled with the results! She coordinated everything from the tiles, paint colors, lighting fixtures to vanity selection and it was all done on time and on budget. I would recommend her without hesitation.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What should I put above a large fireplace?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

What should I put above this large fireplace? A mirror? A piece of art? Any suggestions welcome.
I'm not interested in a TV. Thanks in advance.

A: I think a beautiful piece of art would be the most interesting solution.

**Q: Finishing off my daughters room... couple questions!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have four window panels but have only hung two, I think that is enough? There will be shades installed in the coming days (so don't need to block out light with drapes although they are blackout)

I made some mistakes with ordering, the nightstand color is much darker than it appeared online, was intended to be similar color to bench, a very light Robins egg blue. Given the shape and proximity to the dresser, do I need to lose the dresser entirely?

Ty!

A: I don't think you need a second panel on the windows because then the curtains will be squished against the headboard. I think if you got a tieback for each one then it would look like they are framing the bed. Hope this helps.

**Q: backsplash dilemma** *(in Design Dilemma)*

as you can see the tile guy extended the backsplash to the door frame although there is no counter there. before i tell him to take it down i want to make sure that i really don't want it! i think it looks strange, hanging in mid-air. what do you think?

A: I think it would be better to fix this now , it does look a bit unbalanced. Nice backsplash tile though!

**Q: Kitchen Backsplash Help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Was is the most inexpensive way to replace this ugly counter top back? It's like a block of counter sitting on top of the actual counter. We are buying this home and doing a full kitchen remodel in 2 years but for the time being I'm making small changes.

This counter back (I really don't know what to call it) is broken behind the sink and really needs taken down. Any thoughts on a cheap, temporary fix? If I just remove it will that look ok? I'll be painting.

A: I agree with Diana, there isn't much you can do that will not involve more work than it is work. If you paint the wall a colour that is closer to the counter colour you won't notice it as much. Yellow is just about the worst colour for that counter and it isn't great with the cabinets either. Paint and wait!

**Q: Brushed nickel faucet with stainless sink?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

If I have a drop in stainless steel kitchen sink and brushed nickel cabinet handles and stainless appliances, could my faucet be brushed nickel or should it be chrome to match the sink?

A: Get the stainless or chrome as it is easy to clean and never goes out of style. Your faucet doesn't have to match your sink or your cabinet handles.

**Q: Master bathroom makeover** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I took off all the wall paper in this bathroom (picture is before removal) . The biggest problem I am having is that the jacuzzi, toilet and sink is gray and I do not know what color to paint. I was thinking about royal blue and add accents of like a pearl color. Any ideas/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

A: I think that might work. If you combine two slightly different grey tones it will look like you are just working with an overall grey palette. To make that work though I think you should paint the oak vanity a white colour, it's not terribly hard to do and I think you will really like the end result. Good Luck and post a photo of the end product.
