**Q: Help picking backsplash** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am having trouble picking a backsplash for my kitchen. I have white cabinets and a busy granite. I don't want to pick a backsplash and regret it later. My husband wants something busy but I don't want a backsplash that takes attention from my granite. Someone help!!!

A: The best option in this particular situation is picking the perfect white stone that  will compliment your granite. Given the picture you provided the best option would be Bianco estremoz which has beautiful warm subtle veining that does not distract the eye.  It is both a beautiful stone aesthetically and very strong and durable.  If you provide us the dimensions, we will be able to customize the backsplash in the material that works best.

**Q: Help choosing a Quartz color for new home!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm having trouble choosing a color for my countertops. I had thought I wanted a white sparkling top but when I saw Whitney jewel it looked cheap to me. The floor matches the cabinet color. The cabinets are maple. I liked Ella and Torquay but I'm unsure. The crown molding is white!

A: If you want a high quality look and feel, I'd consider marble countertops. A beautiful Carrera or a creamy Calacatta would really stand out against your color scheme. Just a thought!

New quartzite counters cabinets painted new sink faucet. Need backsplash ideas I want to keep it light.

A: Small scale Carrera marble tiles would add a sweet touch. You can play off the quartzite counter but get a more subtle effect than the dramatic veining you already have. Nice job on your reno!

**Q: Help!!!  Granite Countertop Installed Wrong!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are working on a kitchen remodel and doing 90% of the work ourselves. We had a granite guy out the other day to install the countertops and didn't realize until after he left that the bar overhang is sagging 1/8" as measured with a laser level. The unsupported span from leg on the left to cabinet box on the right is just over 5'. I thought the installer would have realized during the install that there wasn't enough support but it is what it is.
We realize we need more support but are looking for suggestions. The overhang from the back of the cabinets is 2' (depth of the cabinet).
We considered a large corbel but I'm doubting how effective that will be.  Also an additional leg was considered in the middle but that is a deal breaker.
The other thing we considered is making "fake" cabinets 1' deep behind the existing cabinets to reduce the granite overhang to only 1' since we will be adding paneling anyways. We don't like losing the legroom but unless we come up with something better not sure what else to do.
Any suggestions?

We saw your question and shared your details with one of the professional installers our company works with. In cases like this, we usually reinforce the wood substrate with steel bars, but in this case the stone is already installed you're going to have to work with alternatives unless you want to completely re-install the counter.

This is a beach condo on the ocean. The kitchen is being renovated with an open wall concept. The kitchen cabintets will be BM White Dove -Kitchen floor tiles are being replaced with  the same wood as in LR.   What color counter top granite -light or dark?Thanks !

For an open-concept, beach condo, I'd consider going with a light stone. Visually, that will open your space up even more and fit with the beachy, airy theme. Best wishes for your project!

Marble gets a bad rap when it comes to tile.  Some say not to use it for your kitchen counter, others love it as a surface for baking.  It's veining can be beautiful as a feature in a shower, but others say it's too tough to clean. Which marble do you love or hate, and why?
