> We are building a contemporary house on Hutchinson Island. We had our entire plan of 6,500 sf designed by another local Design/Build contractor and had a great dilemma about the flat cement roof waterproofing material along with few other concerns. I decided to take help from the Houzz community and I sent a detailed message to few of the architects who had modern/ contemporary projects posted. I saw KoDA's stunning projects and thought of taking a chance to send him a message as well, not really expected any reply back. In fact, he was THE only architect who responded me and that too within 2 days, on top of it he apologized for the delayed response. I was pleasantly shocked! After few e mail communications he personally called me, discussed my project along with providing me some invaluable guidance and patiently answering our questions. I was in total disbelief. When I talked to my builder and discussed about Wesley's suggestions, he was extremely impressed and said I can't believe any professional of this magnitude and expertise would spend his valuable time. And I am in complete agreement with him. We are professionals too so I understand the importance and value of time. At the same time he presented the highest standards of customer service what his company is promising for. During the entire telephone conversation, I never felt like I am talking to some stranger. He was so easy to talk with and discuss the various points. I wish we had a chance to use his services at some point.
> I truly appreciate Wesley's help in our project ( that too without any expectations!!!).
> Kudos to KoDA.

**Comment from KoDA:**

> Thanks for the nice words Jagruti. Best of luck with your project!

> Koda Miami designed a beautiful Master Suite (700sq foot addition), office makeover and outdoor space (patio area and separate pool, BBQ area) for our home in Fort Lauderdale. After meeting with multiple architects/designers we were completely blown away by Wes and his incredible design. Our home is now just about complete and we could not be happier with the service and professionalism offered by the KODA team. Everything passed through permitting quickly and without many changes, delays or rejections from the city. Our contractor has told us multiple times how lucky we are to have found such a detailed, talented architect! Wes was able to make our dream into a reality and we hope to work with him again in the future!

**Comment from KoDA:**

> Thank you Meagan! It was a pleasure working with you, Max and little Carter. I'm looking forward to you enjoying the new home.

> Amazing experience working with KoDa Miami.
>
> I am the GM of Etnia Barcelona in America. I hired KoDa to lead the project of the opening of our new office, showroom and warehouse space in Miami, FL. The location would be the biggest location on the Western Hemisphere, that would give service to all our USA, Canada and LATAM customers.
>
> Wesley was able to really get the vibe of our brand and transmit the color, culture, art and independent movement from Etnia Barcelona into the design of the space.
>
> He was on site every time we needed him and was constantly following up and communicating with both Etnia and contractors.
>
> I would recommend KoDa to anyone that is looking quality, amazing good taste for architecture and design and someone fun and easy to work with. And super professional.
>
> Thank you, KoDa!

> After a long and uneventful vetting process of various architects here in South Florida we had the pleasure of being introduced to Wesley Kean & his team at KoDA. From the very first interaction we saw KoDA as a different and very special group of talented architects and designers. We immediately contracted them to be responsible for the design of our new corporate office. We are now about 60% through the process and we have been 1000 percent satisfied with KoDA. Best ways to describe the experience is, on-time, on-budget, creative, innovative, obsessively organized, and really ahead of their time in terms of the way in which they present their materials and treat their clients. I am an entrepreneur, a self-starter, and in the service business myself and appreciate high achievers like Wesley & his team. I say without exaggeration that KoDA has exceeded our expectations in every single way possible. I am just glad that we have been fortunate enough to work with them now as I am sure in 5 years time they will be regarded as one of the most sought after architectural firms in South Florida. Thank you KoDA!

**Comment from KoDA:**

> Thank you for the kind words, and for inspiring us! When you provided us with all of your mood images of what you wanted the office to be, it decorated our studio and is what influenced the final outcome. Collaborating with you has been a pleasure and I look forward to whats next!

> As a landscape architect, I've had the distinct pleasure of collaborating with the architectural firm of KoDA Miami, and the experience remains enriching. Wesley Kean of KoDA Miami works closely with his staff to design spaces and volumes of the highest quality. Paying careful attention from the inception of an initial concept all the way through to the construction details, KoDA provides an exceptional level of service. The architectural projects devised by the team at KoDA Miami are always sensitive to the local context as well of the needs of the client, finding the most clever ways to integrate function and beauty. My experiences collaborating with KoDA have been incredibly enjoyable and have led to great outcomes for both interior and exterior living experiences. I recommend Koda Miami with a great deal of confidence. Future clients will be happily surprised with the professionalism of this young firm!

- [Golden Beach Contemporary Ocean Villa Renovation](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/golden-beach-contemporary-ocean-villa-renovation-pj-vj~2088612)
  - Location: Golden Beach, FL
  - Photos: 32
  - Description: FEATURED in Architectural Digest! https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/tom-joyner-florida-home When asked to renovate an existing pseudo-Mediterranean home located directly on the ocean, the owner had one main request; to open up the views towards the ocean. Architecturally, it was important to respect the character of the existing house but larger openings would evidently alter the appearance of the house. Therefore, the design approach became one of reduction, rather than addition. Using…
- [Fort Lauderdale Contemporary Waterfront Solar Plaza Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/fort-lauderdale-contemporary-waterfront-solar-plaza-residence-pj-vj~2446929)
  - Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL
  - Photos: 17
  - Description: The site for this generous home was challenging due to its parallelogram shape. With the street front and waterfront at different angles to the sides of the lot, the building form had to break from tradition and take on its own character. Herein laid the design opportunities for what would turn out to be a striking and unique design. Rather than resist the combination of obtuse and acute angles revealed by the site, the design embraces the geometric pattern as the organizing element of the plan.…
- [Fort Lauderdale Contemporary Waterfront Tradewinds Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/fort-lauderdale-contemporary-waterfront-tradewinds-residence-pj-vj~2090997)
  - Location: Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: Inspired by the Florida Modernists, this sub-tropical design was born out of a thorough analysis of the surrounding context. Located just a few blocks away from an active draw-bridge, the mass of the building was designed as an L-shape in order to shield the noise emanating from the bridge, while allowing for generous outdoor spaces that extend out from the interior. The entry is revealed by a composition of framed geometries that provide movement along the front façade and create a layered entr…
- [Golden Beach Contemporary Courtyard Parkway Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/golden-beach-contemporary-courtyard-parkway-residence-pj-vj~5371344)
  - Location: Golden Beach, FL
  - Photos: 15
  - Description: The design of this home is in direct response to it’s site, context and program. A larger critique on nearby site-dominant homes which seem to overwhelm their site, we wanted this home to re-unite with a forgotten Florida archetype - the courtyard home. The clients, a young family of 5, made it clear that their time is spent divided equally between indoor and outdoor. Therefore, we were tasked with creating a series of both indoor and outdoor spaces for relaxation, entertaining and exercising. T…
- [Coconut Grove Contemporary Vernacular Kiora House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/coconut-grove-contemporary-vernacular-kiora-house-pj-vj~2683322)
  - Location: Miami, FL
  - Photos: 18
  - Description: The design of this home began with an in-depth analysis of the local vernacular and the desire to respect the abundance of existing sub-tropical landscape. Located in the heart of Miami’s Coconut-Grove, the home reinforces the inherent relationship between architecture and landscape present throughout. Built forms shape outdoor rooms and courtyards for the family to enjoy, while trees puncture openings in the roof, solidifying the homes place on the site. A constant dialogue between architecture…

- [Miami Beach Contemporary Waterfront Meridian Ave. Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/miami-beach-contemporary-waterfront-meridian-ave-home-pj-vj~2090980)
  - Location: Miami Beach, FL
  - Photos: 13
  - Description: Located on a narrow Miami Beach residential lot, the house was designed to maximize outdoor space, while honoring the programmatic requirements of the family. Architecture has the tendency to focus entirely on the visual sense, having little regard for other vehicles of perception. The location of this site, not far from the bustling Arthur Godfrey corridor of Miami Beach, demanded special consideration for the acoustic sense. The site analysis was circumspect, driving the massing of the home an…
- [Breckenridge Environmental Modern Peak 4 Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/breckenridge-environmental-modern-peak-4-residence-pj-vj~2381870)
  - Location: Breckenridge, CO
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: Set alongside Colorado’s Tenmile mountain range, this residence serves as a gathering place for an active family. They imagined a retreat that would accommodate groups of extended family and friends and provide a connection to the landscape and surrounding views for year-round recreation, especially during the ski season. The site is defined by a dramatic incline, which slopes a total of 50’ in height starting at the front of the property and cresting at the rear. The building was designed to pe…

  - Location: Miami, FL
  - Photos: 29
  - Description: Along Miami’s bustling Bird Road, an unbroken space will be the second home for this local pizzeria. Like any great recipe, the design for this restaurant called for proper ingredients; equal parts innovation, creativity and familiarity. The goal was to script an unforgettable experience for the customer, while conjuring up their appetite for gourmet, brick oven pizzas made with garden-fresh ingredients. This unique design approach began by investigating the feedback provided by the hundreds of…
- [Bal Harbour Contemporary Courtyard Garden House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/bal-harbour-contemporary-courtyard-garden-house-pj-vj~2088640)
  - Location: Bal Harbour, FL
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: Located in Bal Harbour, this courtyard home was designed for a young family of 5. Indoor-outdoor living and maximizing daylight were critical goals of the project. In a market largely driven by re-sale value, the owners of this home have focused on a long-term vision. They view the house not as a commodity but rather as an heirloom, treasured in the family for decades. This, along with their obsession with the garden, particularly orchids, became the source of inspiration for the design. The hou…

  - Description: Received the AIA Florida 2017 Merit Award of Excellence for an Unbuilt Project Located just west of the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, this office building was designed for a Progressive International Aviation Resource Company. The company’s main business, sales and acquisitions of private aircraft, served as a thematic generator for the design. - [Aventura Contemporary Condominium Marina Tower Lobby](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/aventura-contemporary-condominium-marina-tower-lobby-pj-vj~2535772)
  - Location: Aventura, FL
  - Photos: 3
  - Description: When asked to renovate an existing condominium lobby, we first needed to investigate what a "lobby" is. Through a discussion with the residents and a thorough analysis of the space, we determined that the lobby is more than a just a transitional space. It needs to serve a purpose and become another amenity for the building. The residents wanted the lobby to become the "living room" for the building, a community space. We wanted the space to last, so we used a refined material palette of bronze,…

  - Description: Received the AIA Miami 2016 Merit Award of Excellence for an Unbuilt Project Located in Little Haiti, this interior build-out is for a quickly growing international eyewear company. Functional requirements include showroom, distribution center, offices and support functions. Like many unique and successful projects, the build-out for this international brand of eyewear started with a beautiful vision, a large program and a small budget. The company’s main business, sales and acquisitions of private aircraft, served as the main inspiration for the design. - Location: Miami, FL
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: When hired by an innovative real estate company to design the offices for their construction arm of the company, we turned to three design principles for inspiration; light, nature and raw materials. It is through this simplified palette that the space is able to engage with the workers and visitors alike. The experience begins when you enter the through the glass doors and into the reception area where a wooden “tool box” serves as the backdrop for reception. Within the tool box contains storag…
- [Miami Contemporary Parillada Split House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/miami-contemporary-parillada-split-house-pj-vj~2090953)
  - Location: North Miami, FL
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: Located in a Miami neighborhood infused with mid-century, post-war architecture the split house was designed to respond to its context while catering to the lifestyle of its inhabitants. A young Argentinian couple with a growing family needed the house to serve two main functions; An area for entertainment – Parillada, and an area of retreat – rest. Therefore, the design concept revolved around this paradox. A large, 3-foot thick wall - used for built in storage, is clad in locally sourced Flori…

  - Description: Expansive landscape blankets the earth to reveal the primordial beauty of Bendemeer, a small residential area just outside of Queenstown, New Zealand. A site endowed with so much drama, including challenging winds, a temperate climate and breathtaking views, the house was conceived in direct response to the natural conditions of the site. The limits of the lot are difficult to distinguish and demand a building that treads lightly on its fragile ground. The construction, therefore, also needed to…

## Community Q&A

**Q: What material was used on the cabinets to look like the countertops?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I like the look of the countertops and the cabinets.

What material did you use for the TV wall? Is it the same as kitchen cabinets? Or just a similar color as cabinets?
