**★★★★★ — David V, Feb. 2020**

> Eric had been involved with our project from the original idea and feasibility through to the finishing of the final details. Eric is a great problem solver while at the same time being realistic with expectations. His understanding of creating spaces coupled with engineering and construction knowledge yields practical and workable designs that are tailored to fit the most stringent city permitting and owner needs. His ideas for detailing are on point and set his projects apart from his competition. We feel very lucky to have teamed with Eric and Woodward Renovations and Custom Homes.

**Comment from eric gedney \| ARCHITECT:**

> Wow, thank you so much for these great comments. I agree that we had a great team to negotiate the fine lines that we did. I hope you and your family truly enjoy the fruits of your investment in time, money and vision.

> I was struggling to visualize the right design and flow for the remodel of my 1963 rambler when I came across Eric Gedney’s website. His services were clearly outlined and his portfolio immediately gave me confidence.
>
> I signed up for his “Are You Stuck?” package, which included a 1.5-hour on-site consultation followed by 1.5 hours of design work to produce a professional schematic. From the start, Eric was personable, thoughtful, and an excellent listener. He really took the time to understand what was important to me and offered smart suggestions that improved the layout while being mindful of my budget.
>
> When I received the first version of the drawing, I was honestly blown away. The level of clarity and professionalism exceeded my expectations, and the plan gives me exactly what I need to move forward confidently into the bidding phase with contractors.
>
> This process truly got me “unstuck.” I now have clear direction, renewed excitement, and a solid path forward. I would absolutely recommend Eric to anyone needing help refining their vision. Additionally, I would not hesitate to bring Eric in for a full home design in need of an architect.
>
> Thank you, Eric!

**★★★★★ — HU-304379357, Sept. 2024**

> Eric was a great architect to hire to design our project, a bonus room addition on our house. His process was excellent from start to finish, and incorporated both his and our ideas in a collaborative way. We were impressed with the fact that our building permit was approved through the County without any ordered revisions, which speaks to Eric's expertise and thoroughness. We would recommend Eric as an architect to anyone who wants a project taken from concept to permit without any worries.

**★★★★★ — Winnie Z, Sept. 2023**

> Not a second in our consultation session with Eric was wasted. Eric is sharp, experienced, and easygoing. He recognized a lot of structural details at a glance. One minute, I was talking about some of my interests unintentionally, and within the next five minutes, he had a new design idea incorporating that. We love our new house but hadn’t stopped worrying because the floorplan doesn’t work for us. However, Eric was able to generate brilliant ideas to “tame” the house to our own so quickly that it finally put our minds at ease. Now, I know that meeting with the right architect is not only illuminating but can also be pleasant.

**Comment from eric gedney \| ARCHITECT:**

> I enjoyed the walk-through as well! Thanks so much for your kind words. I am very much looking forward to the next phase where we can develop some of the ideas we discussed.

**★★★★★ — Aaron Fishbein, Aug. 2023**

> First off, I will say that Eric absolutely knocked it out of the park for our remodel. We have a home in West Seattle and when we had a 2nd kiddo on the way, we decided to convert our attic into livable space. We had an original plan in mind when we came to him - he had so many fantastic ideas and suggestions we would have never considered. We ended up more than doubling the space we would have had originally, and it barely impacted our budget - the whole space ties in so well with our existing home that people can't ever tell it was even added. He walked us through the entire process, answered all of our questions, and even after his part was complete he continued to support and provide advice. I cannot recommend him enough.

**Comment from eric gedney \| ARCHITECT:**

> Thanks so much for the positive words. To be honest, this project was quite the puzzler.
> So glad that we came up with a successful solution and you are enjoying your new spaces. I look forward to visiting when I am in the area.

**★★★★★ — Ruthann, June 2023**

> We hired Eric to help us with the first step in our home remodel project which was to find out if our ideas were realistic for our budget. Eric provided us with some new suggestions and advice on how to "better spend" our money. We are definitely going to follow his advice.

**★★★★★ — Kevin & Karen Kutz, April 2023**

> We sought out Eric for design ideas for our master bedroom suite, master bath, and guest bath - all of which are quite ready for a refresh. He visited us for a consult, and we were immediately impressed with the imagination and experience he brought to the conversation, and how easy it was as non-experts (certainly speaking for myself) to collaborate with him on the possibilities. The consult helped us rule some things out and opened up entirely new directions we hadn't considered. He was quick to turnaround a formal rendering of his suggestions, and even though we've slow-rolled that project in favor of others at the moment, his guidance continues to shape our planning. We absolutely recommend reaching out to Eric for your next project. He's a joy to work with.

**★★★★★ — Hillary Sara, Dec. 2022**

> We have been very fortunate to work with Eric. He rescued our project after we'd engaged another architect that was very expensive, flashy and difficult to communicate with. When we ended up parting ways, we were unsure of what to do next. Eric graciously accepted our meeting request and we were so happy he did. He really takes the time to listen to you, helping you build your best home. He's not only a great listener, but also a great communicator (which is so important on a big project like ours).
>
> He helped us completely reimagine our project and took the time to ensure every little detail was perfect. So far, we've completed 75% of the phases we contracted him for and we are headed into permitting. We love and appreciate having Eric on our side and cannot wait to see his drawings come to life. With Eric, you will get exactly what he advertises with no surprises. I cannot stress enough how Eric is the architect you've been looking for!

**★★★★★ — H Kevin Steensma, Nov. 2022**

> Eric provided us with an initial consult to generate some ideas for our impending remodel. We were thrilled with what he provided us. He has an uncanny ability to walk into a room and provide a vision that takes into account flow and makes sense. Possibilities opened up for us that we would not have considered if not for Eric's insight. One can almost see the wheels turning in his mind as he considers how to best utilize a space. Highly recommend.

**★★★★★ — Stuart and Lisa O'Brochta, Nov. 2022**

> We have been working with Eric for the past year on the design and management of the construction of our new home. We are through the primary design phase and waiting on permitting due to the current economic conditions.
> He has been responsive to our dreams and ideas, and patient with the multiple changes we have made as the project has transformed. He is professional and able to take our concepts and come up with even better solutions than we initially conceptualized.
> We are looking forward to the next stages of our project and the outcome based on the excellent partnership with have built with Eric.

**★★★★★ — HU-239704096, July 2022**

> Eric has been outstanding to work with throughout our design and remodel project. Eric listens and works with our goals and values to create something practical and beautiful! He's easy to work with and has a ton of money saving and project enhancing tips. We tried working with other architects, but they seemed more interested in creating something to please themselves rather than to meet our needs.
> We both, hands down, would be thrilled to work with Eric again!

**Comment from eric gedney \| ARCHITECT:**

> Thank you so much for your kind words! This is what I try to do for every client and am glad that it has worked out so well on your project. I hope you enjoy your new space for years to come.

**★★★★★ — Tomoki Yasuda, June 2022**

> As new home owners we were unsure how to go about the process of renovating and remodeling our home, but after consulting with Eric through his quickstart package we feel much more confident about the steps and costs ahead. Eric does a great job explaining the nuances of home renovation and even gave us a detailed breakdown of costs by type of renovation (and subsequent resale value!). His candor and knowledge really put us at ease and I cannot recommend his services enough. Thank you Eric!

**★★★★★ — meerageorge, Feb. 2022**

> Eric is great to work with. He is patient, explains his designs and the process clearly, and he is flexible - he'll work with you within your budget and your schedule.

**Comment from eric gedney \| ARCHITECT:**

> Thanks for the positive words! I hope your project turns out amazing.

**★★★★★ — test, Nov. 2021**

> We had Eric do a quick schematic drawing for our additional and a laundry room remodel 2D plan sketch. He completed it on time and provided great feedback during our consultation. He's professional and helpful!

**★★★★★ — HU-136750874, May 2021**

> We have a 1904 home which needed updating but keeping the architectural integrity was paramount. We started with Eric's Quick Start Package which helped us greatly. Then we moved on to refining the plan which is a complex process when remodeling old homes.
> The result is exactly what we envisioned. We highly recommend Eric.

**★★★★★ — Kat Phillips, Dec. 2020**

> We have been working closely with Eric for the past 6 months on two major remodelling projects - one a main house and the other, guest accommodation. He has provided us with clear plans and direction this whole way and we have ended up with two cleverly simple yet beautiful design plans that suit our location and budget perfectly. We have just commenced the first project with a design and construction crew, suggested by Eric, who we feel completely comfortable and happy with. Can’t wait for the finished products!!

**★★★★★ — Patrice Staiger, Dec. 2020**

> Eric was wonderful in listening to our needs as he created the architectural plan to gut and expand the 2nd floor of our 100 year old craftsman. We are also raising the roof and adding a 3rd floor studio with an outdoor deck. His meticulous attention to detail is much appreciated. He has also has been very responsive when a request for change arose. We now have our city permits and we are ready to begin the build. We feel secure in knowing that Eric will be with us to oversee the project through completion.

**★★★★★ — Jerry Holmes, Dec. 2019**

> EGA did in 2 hours what it took another company to do in 2 months. In a very short time, Eric provided a design solution that was obvious to him and mystery to everyone else.

**★★★★★ — Ryan Goldstein Katahdin Builders, LLC, Dec. 2019**

> Eric and I have collaborated on many projects together over the course of the last 7 years. As a builder/general contractor tuned in to the details, I appreciate Eric's care and thoughtfulness in how he approaches his projects, how he communicates throughout the project, how he has always made himself available and how he is open to other ideas and potential changes along the way. For these reasons, and many more, I will continue to work alongside Eric and highly recommend the services he can provide for your project.

**★★★★★ — Woodward Renovations & Custom Homes, Nov. 2019**

> As a local contractor we have worked with Eric on multiple occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed the collaboration. Eric has been fantastic to work with along with great communication. Our interactions in the office and on the job-sites are always highly productive and on point. Eric is a great combination of creativity along with deep understanding of building practices. We look forward to working together much more in the future.

**★★★★★ — Lisa Marsh, Aug. 2019**

> Eric is a wonderful architect. My husband and I hired him to create a significant remodel design. Our home has a number of different angles and roof lines that were not easy to streamline into the vision we have for our home. Eric was able to create something beyond our expectations. He is a good listener and brought valuable solutions to the table. He was on time and on budget. There were no creeping costs and the cost was not tied to the project budget, but rather a flat rate. We have worked with a few architects on past projects and this was a welcome change for first rate work! Although we are planning this extensive remodel to be completed in the near future, having the comprehensive plan allows us to update flooring and make some minor changes in the short term without spending redundant future costs.

**★★★★★ — Anton R, June 2019**

> We have used Eric Gedney's 3 hour consultation package. I would highly recommend taking advantage of this package before going into any significant remodeling. We have gained a very thorough understanding of pros and cons of different changes, and suggestions for other changes in the future. It was definitely worth the money.

**★★★★★ — Anthony Cangialosi, April 2018**

> Eric was a great fit for our full house remodel. He designed a 4 bedroom / 3 bath second story addition with a new kitchen and staircase relocation for our 1940's craftsman NE Seattle home; not a small project :-o
> Eric listened to all our wants and came up with a thoughtful plan that balanced what we were looking for with an unrelenting eye for design, detail, & flow that preserved the style and integrity of the original home. He took us smoothly through the design phase, permitting process and helped us find a great contractor as well. The 3D model was a great bonus that gave us confidence in the plan and helped us visualize the final product in a way we never could have done from the blueprints alone.

**Comment from eric gedney \| ARCHITECT:**

> It was a pleasure to work with you and your wife on this project. I am excited for you and your family to enjoy this home for many years to come. Thanks for including me in this remodel.

**★★★★★ — K S, April 2018**

> Eric Gedney transformed my 'view with a roof' to a cozy, light filled, awesome 'framed view'. I knew I had my architect when he went silent, stared off into space, and came out with an incredibly simple solution to an awkward layout problem that alluded everyone else. He has a keen diagnostic eye and imaginative vision.

**Comment from eric gedney \| ARCHITECT:**

> Your home looks so good now! I had forgotten that initial moment of inspiration - thanks for bringing that up to my memory again. May you enjoy your new home for years to come. Thank you also for allowing me to be a part of it.

**★★★★★ — Jeremy Syme, Nov. 2017**

> We knew we wanted to add more bedrooms to our house, but didn't know the effort involved. We found Eric on Angie's List and after a quick email and phone call scheduled an appointment. The bad news was what we wanted to do was very expensive, and parts of it might not even be possible. Eric didn't stop there. He dug into what we needed and came up with a solution that made much more sense than our original idea. His solution is far better and far less expensive solution than what we had been assuming. It was a simple solution but on that had evaded us for almost 15 years. We were thrilled with his work and only wish we had a bigger project to see what he could do with something meatier.

**Comment from eric gedney \| ARCHITECT:**

> So glad to hear the I was able to help you process your needs/wants and come up with do-able solution for your home. I am sure that this will just be the first phase of many improvements. ;-) Happy to help in the future if I can. Take care.

**★★★★★ — Sandra H, Sept. 2017**

> Eric went above and beyond in explaining the process initially as well as every step along the way. Throughout the design process he brought excellent ideas and designs and if I suggested changes, he was always good natured in pointing out why it may or may not work and offering alternatives that worked as well or better. His 3D drawings were specifically helpful to me in visualizing the spatial design. Throughout the permit process, he efficiently represented the project regarding the multitude of reports and modifications required by the permit department. All in all, he listens to what you want and works with you to refine the project to meet your dreams. I would highly recommend him and I look forward to working with him again on future projects.

**Comment from eric gedney \| ARCHITECT:**

> Sandy, Thank you so much for the kind comments - of course I try to bring that level of service to every client. I, too, look forward to working with you in the future.

**★★★★★ — Sean Murphy, April 2017**

> Eric is awesome. He saw potential in our (then) yet-to-be renovated house from 1910 that we couldn't have imagined. We weren't able to secure his services for anything more than a floorplan, and I am still saddened we couldn't have him more involved in the project.
>
> (Cost shown is for the floorplans, not the renovation)

**★★★★★ — Rajeev Singh, April 2017**

> I wanted to get an opinion on potential upgrades to improve the flow of the house without too much change in the structurally; being an old house it was remodeled by different times without considering overall layout and design. I asked Eric to share vision of how/what we can remodel which changing the structural element or incurring costs thereof.
>
> Eric was just fantastic; he had very creative ways to keep improve the flow of the house without having to completely requiring the overhaul of the structural element of the house. He has provided us with detailed insight that would help think which direction we should head with the remodel plans. We will absolutely hire Eric as we execute on it.

**★★★★★ — cahreene, Jan. 2017**

> We couldn't have been more pleased with Eric Gedney's work. He designed a beautiful second story for our 100 year old home and the results are amazing. All the details are consistent with the history of the home, the new addition fits in so well it looks as if it was always there. Eric was very easy to work with, always available and on schedule. He made a great team with our general contractor.

**★★★★★ — Teri Johnson, Sept. 2016**

> Even as a trained marriage counselor I did not think it would ever be possible to find a garage design that my husband and I could agree on. Eric was excellent at listening to both of us and suggesting a design that included both of our desires. Loved how he helped us to think outside the box on our garage-to-Master conversion. I highly recommend him!

**Comment from eric gedney \| ARCHITECT:**

> I am glad that you found the 3 hour consultation helpful in moving forward with your project. I wish you the best! Eric

**★★★★★ — c011584, Aug. 2016**

> We hired Eric to help us with our home remodel. When drawing up the plans, he listened well and solicited our feedback, and he spent a lot of time making sure we were on the same page. Eric offered so many helpful ideas and creative suggestions that our end result was fabulous. We presented the plans to the local Planning Commission for approval, and having Eric with me helped us streamline the entire process when a question arose. He also helped us find a contractor, and it was clear that his rapport with the contractor was excellent.
>
> Eric stood ready to come out to the job site and consult when asked and was very helpful in problem solving when unanticipated issues came up as the remodeling job took a few twists and turns. He's also flexible about whether the terms of engagement include on-site project management or 'as needed' review. I highly recommend Eric Gedney!

**★★★★★ — Daniel Nessim, June 2016**

> My wife and I have moved back into our Snohomish cottage after having rented it out for a decade, and are now planning to add some floor space and a porch, but we were very concerned about doing something in keeping with the character of our home. It's tiny, but to us a gem. Eric put us in contact with a great drafts-person, we got drawings made up, and then we consulted with him. Eric came up with a lot of ideas and suggestions that we had not even considered. He was able to give us 'ball park' estimates of his work and the cost of construction and help us to decide where our money is best spent.

**★★★★ — monicadunlop, Nov. 2015**

> My husband and I hired Eric to remodel our kitchen, master bath and general updates to our 1930 Capitol Hill home in Seattle. We gave Eric a long list of wishes that we'd like to see accomplished in a remodel (thinking that we wouldn't be able to achieve all of them). Eric met our checklist and beyond. He is a terrific, creative space planner.

**★★★★★ — ward\_t8, Oct. 2015**

> We had a major kitchen remodel project and was offered the standard free kitchen layout service from the cabinet distributor. Our kitchen is small, as well as challenging, due to placement of windows and other constraints. The free layout service fell way short of what we needed. We wanted to find an “out of the box” solution that optimized the space and really looked for opportunity, so we hired Eric. He was quickly able to find a work-around, which involved constructing a small buildout into our garage space to help fit our large refrigerator. His guidance was transformative; our kitchen feels so much larger and open. We continue to be complemented by friends and family.
>
> Skip the cabinet guy’s advice and call Eric. He’s worth every penny at a fraction of the cost of most kitchen remodels.

**★★★★★ — User, March 2014**

> We chose Eric for the design of our retirement home and have never regretted it. Eric was thoughtful in his design, listening to us and learning how we live so he could design the home we wanted, not what he wanted. We asked for a home where we could age in place, and he delivered. We asked for a home with clean lines and great architectural detail - he delivered. He was considerate of our budget and we ended up with a superb home. It is comfortable, inviting, and it is us. While I know Eric loves century old homes, we can attest he is also in his element designing a completely new home. We are still in touch with Eric, even though we moved into our home in 2010. Recommend him without reservation.

**★★★★★ — Dave Hicks, Nov. 2013**

> Eric Gedney is a brilliant architect. We couldn't be happier with his work, and we have greatly enjoyed working with him over the past year.
>
> We interviewed several architects before beginning our project. Eric began the process by coming out to the house, surveying the property, and talking to us in depth about our project. Eric had us complete a survey, walked us through the process of design and build stages and phases, listened carefully to what we wanted, and created a three dimensional visualization of the project. We wanted a modern design with green materials. I was surprised by how well Eric listened to us and how open he was to receiving feedback. He did a great job communicating and accurately set expectations up front about how to balance out requirements of quality, time, and budget for this major project.
>
> He recommended a few builders. We assembled bids from some of his contacts and some others. Eric recommended an interior designer, Roshele Allison / NW Home Designers, who is also amazingly talented. We assembled a great team of architect, designer, and builders who knew each other and worked very well together.
>
> Eric's taste is magnificent and the lines of our house are exceptionally beautiful. Eric did a great job advocating for us in several situations and making sure we made sensible and aesthetic decisions in all circumstances. He did a beautiful job.
>
> I can't say enough good things about Eric's talent, vision, communication competence, and integrity. I feel very fortunate to have worked with him and highly recommend his services to others.

**★★★★★ — engr2002, Nov. 2013**

> My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Eric on our house design. We had some ideas on how we wanted our house, but couldn't agree on any of the designs we put on paper. Eric has an amazing way of listening to both of us and he is so artistic. He came up with a great design that we both love! His design was full of new ideas and is very beautiful! Our house went through a few design changes and he was very supportive in these modifications. We had some delays in the project due to some unexpected lot issues, but Eric was on time and the bill was estimated very well!

**★★★★ — chrisquirk, Oct. 2013**

> We originally brought Eric in to propose some designs for a remodel of the second floor of our early 1900s home. His designs were clean and made great use of space: Our 3 bedroom (all on second floor) 1 bath (on first floor) house because 3 bedrooms 3 baths, including a very spacious and comfortable master suite.
>
> Eric was open to recommendations and ideas, leading to an effective design that really worked for us. Furthermore, his contractor recommendations were very effective. He worked well with the general contractor.
>
> He was always on time with plans and permits, which was especially helpful for us as first time remodelers.
>
> Although we exceeded our budget, that was not Eric's fault. We decided to do more remodeling than we had originally intended. I think he did a good job of designing for our budget.
>
> Note that we made most of the interior design choices ourselves, relying on Eric primarily for space design and structural usage, so we can't comment on his interior design skills. This is not a complaint, just a disclosure.
>
> We've been living in the remodeled space for a few years now and are really happy with the results -- it'll be really tough to find a new home with a master suite as nice as the one we have now.

**★★★★★ — User, Oct. 2013**

> Eric planned the remodel of our front entry, powder room, and master bath. It included adding 80 sqft that had been outside of our house previously. We have a 1960s Ralph Anderson house that has a very distinct style. We wanted the remodel to look like it could have been part of the original house. Eric did a great job listening to our wants and concerns. The space feels very gracious and flows well with the rest of the house. I was really happy with all the storage I got out of a space that had almost none before. We will definitely work with Eric again.

**★★★★★ — NW Home Designers, Sept. 2013**

> I am a residential designer and finding an architect who not only understands design integrity AND budgets is hard to find. Eric is the perfect combination of this and constantly comes up with structural design and details solutions. He keeps his client's in the know and knows how to work smart!
>
> His projects range from additions to whole house remodels. His plans are detailed and even show a 3-D renderings of the house from the outside to framing details. They are easy to read and he is quite successful at fast turn around for permits.
>
> If you live in the greater Seattle area and need an architect, look no further! I promise your experience will be a great one.

**★★★★★ — Cornerstone Construction Group Inc., Aug. 2013**

> Bottom line: as a contractor who has worked with many architects Eric Gedney is one of the best I've worked with. Here's why:
>
> 1\) Eric places the highest priority on serving his clients needs first. He has nothing to prove and no ego that needs constant stroking.
>
> 2\) Eric is highly personable and is a great listener - he also has a wry sense of humor that makes his projects fun to be a part of. He works hard to establish a good connection with his clients and has an amazing ability to translate client wishes - even odd ones - into build-able reality.
>
> 3\) Eric understands the importance of collaboration and team building and seeks to build the team early in the process. Contractors can easily be marginalized in this relationship and its not uncommon for them to be made the "bad guy" especially as costs grow with design. Eric listens and even defers to contractor input and will revise his plans to accommodate.
>
> 4\) Eric has a great sense of design, scale, proportion, balance, flow and style which of course is important in an architect. But Eric also possesses a clear understanding of "real life played out in a space". Nothing frivolous, rather, there is a purpose for everything even if the purpose is just to create a deeply personal statement which sums up the clients taste and style. Further, nothing Eric does is run-of-the-mill everything is custom tailored to support the clients desires.
>
> 5\) Finally, Eric can design to meet budget requirements and even though compromise may hurt he is able to scale a project down to help it get built (he is also happy to scale it up!). This is a very important trait in an architect as many projects in our industry die after design and clients are left with a really nice project that will never be built.
>
> A final word of advice to potential clients: when Eric suggests you choose your contractor early on in the process - do it! This is the best way to ensure your project hits your budget goals and building the team early pays off in many remarkable ways.

- [Standard Raised](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/standard-raised-pj-vj~5469637)
 - Location: Seattle, WA
 - Photos: 13
 - Description: The owners of this 1903 classic Seattle home wanted to bring the attractive but tired structure up to a new standard without losing the charming character. In the process of doing that, the house was literally raised, moved 5 feet closer to the street and then placed back down on a new basement foundation. A buried attached garage was added as was the family room above it. Every area of the house was remodeled and brought to a high standard indeed.
- [Coastal Stunner](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/coastal-stunner-pj-vj~61978)
 - Location: Kingston, WA
 - Photos: 13
 - Description: As Coastal Living magazine states, the clients and EGA "turned this architectural crazy quilt into a coastal stunner. Every area, from the gourmet kitchen to the infinity-edge pool to the grand Master Bedroom was designed to excellence." The more complex the design requirements, the more creative the solutions become. Taking advantage of the sweeping views of Puget Sound and the Kingston, WA ferry dock was a predominant concern. However, blending the cacophony of additions to an original 1928 ca…
- [Brick Beauty](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/brick-beauty-pj-vj~1935245)
 - Location: Seattle, WA
 - Photos: 8
 - Description: This classic 1930's Seattle brick beauty had a tiny kitchen. The client's paramount concern was to create a kitchen addition that fit seamlessly with the original house while providing an open bright space for the family to use and enjoy everyday. Although a new kitchen initiated the project, the clients eventually updated almost every area of the house.
- [Elegance on Beaver Lake](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/elegance-on-beaver-lake-pj-vj~61938)
 - Location: Sammamish, WA
 - Photos: 15
 - Description: In this extensive remodel and addition project, EGA transformed an uninspired house into a truly elegant home. The architect replaced the heart of the existing house on the Sammamish Plateau in Washington with a soaring structure. This solution simultaneously took full advantage of the lake view, provided a grand Entry and tied the front of the property to the back more directly. This then provided the opportunity to create outdoor spaces on both sides of the house. A covered outdoor space on th…
- [Seward Park Aerie](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/seward-park-aerie-pj-vj~634228)
 - Location: Seattle, WA
 - Photos: 14
 - Description: EGA added two new stories over the existing basement to this simple rambler in order to take advantage of the beautiful views of Lake Washington. The existing main floor was torn down to the sub-floor and only the Kitchen cabinets were saved. The new design boasts a gracious Entry flowing into the Great Room where the ceilings were raised to 9 feet. The entire top floor is the Master Suite with an Office loft and private deck with a view that might make the local bald eagles jealous! Throughout…
- [Redmond Re-Think](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/redmond-re-think-pj-vj~1012195)
 - Location: Redmond, WA
 - Photos: 9
 - Description: A large family needed a better common space in their suburban Redmond home. EGA expanded what used to be the family room to include a home theater and kitchen. Directly adjacent is a dining room nook, where the kitchen had previously been jammed in. The master suite was upgraded, and an ADU bathroom was put in for graceful aging in place. Outside, the new addition created deck space off the master suite, and a covered eating area for year-round enjoyment.
- [Stealth Remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/stealth-remodel-pj-vj~61981)
 - Location: Seattle, WA
 - Photos: 6
 - Description: Maintaining a traditional look in this established neighborhood was a primary design consideration for the owners of this West Seattle home. They needed more space and wanted a full second story but didn’t want to overwhelm the scale of the neighborhood that had attracted them in the first place. The solution is a period-specific roofline that softens the scale of the structure. The swooping line of the upper roof draws the eye to the counterpoint of the arched entry roof. The second story expan…
- [South Sound Splendor](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/south-sound-splendor-pj-vj~549227)
 - Location: Longbranch, WA
 - Photos: 16
 - Description: This new house located near Gig Harbor, WA represents the culmination of many dreams and desires that the clients wanted to put into this home for their retirement. Marrying the rustic northwest timber frame style on the outside with a more polished level of finish on the inside, EGA created a design that is best described as "Refined Rustic". Besides celebrating the sweeping view with Mount Rainier as focal point, the house has many other interesting features. It was designed for Aging In Place…
- [Gracious Lake Retreat](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/gracious-lake-retreat-pj-vj~61933)
 - Location: Woodinville, WA
 - Photos: 7
 - Description: What started out as a simple weekend cabin became a full-time family home that feels like a retreat. The design for this new home in Woodinville, WA was inspired by barn architecture from the square windows to the carriage doors at the garage and even how it is set back on the property away from the street. "Comfortable" is the word often used by visitors to describe the interior. There are a variety of warm and inviting spaces in which to relax. The window nook looks out across the property to…
- [Rambler Redeemed](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/rambler-redeemed-pj-vj~91837)
 - Location: Mercer Island, WA
 - Photos: 9
 - Description: The owners of a dated, flat-roofed rambler on Mercer Island near Seattle had to do a serious assessment as to whether it would be better to remodel their existing home or move. In the end, the location, as well as a good foundation and footprint allowed the remodel project to go forward. To say that this home had a dramatic change is quite an understatement. There was nothing to save of the main floor, so it was demolished down to the plywood. From there, two new floors were built that added a r…
- [Maple Leaf Restoration](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/maple-leaf-restoration-pj-vj~636679)
 - Location: Seattle, WA
 - Photos: 7
 - Description: This classic Seattle Craftsman home had lost the original front porch somewhere during a short-sighted, decades-old remodel. The owners wanted to restore the house to its original state. Using the city's archive photos and period specific details, EGA was able to design a solution that recaptures the original charm. As part of the project, EGA helped the clients secure a permit variance based on historical accuracy since the current land use codes do not allow a structure this close to the stree…
- [Greenwood Brush-Up](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/greenwood-brush-up-pj-vj~642978)
 - Location: Seattle, WA
 - Photos: 5
 - Description: This 1912 Craftsman bungalow was showing its age when the clients came to EGA. The primary design driver was to add a large Master suite plus a shared bath to the second floor. What brought them to choose us as the architects was our skill at keeping the charm and character of the existing house and neighborhood. The original budget required some phasing to be designed into the master plan. The Master Bathroom was to be plumbed but not finished out and used as a storage area. In the end, they ch…
- [Gentleman's Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/gentleman-s-kitchen-pj-vj~61966)
 - Location: Seattle, WA
 - Photos: 7
 - Description: This kitchen remodel in a house near Lake Union in Seattle was designed to the smallest detail. Not only did the owner want everything to have its own place, but he also had some unique requirements which required creative solutions. Trying to accommodate this within a compact existing space was a challenge, but the result is quite classy. His valued espresso machine and beer dispenser have a dedicated nook complete with a pull-out countertop which allows for easy refilling and maintenance. The…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Roof color** *(in Photo Questions)*

What color asphalt shingle is the roof ?

A: This is your basic charcoal grey presidential grade asphalt shingle. Thanks for looking

**Q: what are the dimensions of this deck? thanks!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Beautiful!

A: Thank you for your kind compliment! This is my own deck and we use it all of the time. It is 12'x24' under the roof with more open deck where the photographer is standing. Hope that helps.

**Q: Which was done first? the brick grid,or thconcrete flat work?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where brick walls are on the sides of the steps, were bricks laid first, the concrete steps poured?
What about on the flat surfaces?

A: I believe that the concrete was laid first leaving voids for the bricks and then the bricks were inset. Thanks for looking.

**Q: what color is the front door** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The color in the photo is actually quite different from reality. My recommendation is that you pick a color from a palette that you feel matches. Hope that helps.

**Q: Transoms Windows** *(in Photo Questions)*

Beautiful Room. What are the dimensions of transom window?

A: Thank you. The transom windows are various widths as you can see but are all 15" tall (rough opening). I feel that any less looks squished. One would always want to play with the proportion to the other windows to get the best look, of course. Hope this helps.

**Q: Love the back splash. Where can i purchase it?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The backsplash tiles were purchased by the client in France and worked into a pattern with standard tiles. I am sorry that I cannot help further with this. Thanks for looking!
