> I had the pleasure of working with Jill as my husband and I were planning to have our newly "empty nest" repainted. She was delightful, easy to work with, and able to understand our design taste in order to make recommendations that capture our style. For many years we have merely picked paint colors and hoped for the best which, on several occasions, resulted in our having to incur the expense of repainting. We will certainly be consulting with Jill before any paint projects in the future!!

**Comment from Jill J. Wallace, Color Redesign:**

> Thank you! Making Color Personal is the fun opportunity for me, so it’s a pleasure helping clients get past home design and decorating hurdles.

> Jill is a wonderful consultant to work with. We found her by an online search and so glad we did. She is so personable and easy to talk to. She is a very good listener which is so important to get the color right. She went above and beyond to help us with tips and ideas to tie everything together. We highly recommend Jill as your interior color consultant!

> I loved working with Jill. From the initial phone conversation she's just a pleasure to work with. She is very easy going and has a great attitude. She has a great sense for what works together, what doesn't, how to transform a light fixture, and give you great ideas even for the right space for furniture. I would definitely recommend working with Jill.

> Both my husband and I can’t say enough about how wonderful it was to work with Jill. Choosing paint colors for our entire house as well as carpeting was overwhelming. Jill made the whole process a pleasure. She had great suggestions that truly made for a stress free experience. She helped us to create a color palette that works throughout the house. She was professional and personable. She even made herself available to contact afterwards for any further questions and quickly responded. We highly recommend Jill and wouldn’t hesitate to use her again.

> 4 years ago we remodeled our kitchen. Jill helped pick wall colors to compliment the granite and back splash. We were so pleased, we asked her to help us pick colors for our first floor. Our first floor is an open area encompassing our dining room, living room and tv area. She has such an “eye” that she chose colors to not only help with the flow of the rooms, but by painting the beams in each area the same color it looks like 3 different rooms.
> We are in the process of remodeling our master bath. I asked Jill to help us choose the wall colors for our second floor. She chose a shade of gray that complimented the tile and we talked about what color towels would work in the room. She mentioned a deep purple, a color I never would have considered. We haven’t had the painting done yet, but I know we will love it. Thank you Jill.

> Jill worked with us on a whole-house plan of interior colors. She was responsive, available, offered competitive fees, and provided resources for paints and painting professionals. Based on decor and style information we provided beforehand, Jill came prepared to our consultation with a range of color samples that coordinated between rooms, floors, and different lighting situations. She is very knowledgeable about color options and effects, and helped to educate us with patience and good humor. Our home is more beautiful for her work - we highly recommend her services, and we look forward to working with Jill in the future...

> We hired Jill in November 2017 to help us with wall colors for our first floor. Jill was very knowledgable and had a great eye for identifying the proper tones of colors. She offered her expertise while always taking our likes and preferences into consideration. We were extremely happy with the results. Our wall colors are beautiful and flow well together from room to room.
> We then asked Jill to return in the spring to offer suggestions and guidance for us to complete our project, coordinating area rugs, furniture colors, etc. Again, Jill was professional, knowledgeable, and offered her expertise, while always taking into consideration our tastes. After both of Jill's visits and guidance, my husband and I felt confident that we could complete our remodeling on our own. We highly recommend Jill to help with your remodeling and color needs!!

> Jill worked with us to select colors for the interior of our home. She responded to our inquiry promptly, scheduled an appointment soon after the initial contact, and arrived at our home on time, well prepared, and ready to go. She took the time to listen to what we wanted to do, then made the process of selecting colors that would tie the rooms of our home together easy and fun. She has a great eye for color within about an hour we had chosen new colors and we are thrilled with the results. I highly recommend Jill and look forward to working with her in the future.

> Jill did a great job helping me pick out colors for painting the interior of my house. She has great communication skills and not only tells me what looks good, but also listened to what I wanted and was comfortable with. She came prepared with Color Chips and has a great eye for color combinations.

> Jill was so friendly, helpful, and confident with color selection. I was a bit overwhelmed with the colors I wanted to use and Jill just really knew what I was looking for and without hesitation, knew which colors would look best for the style I was trying to go for, which was timeless, elegant, but with a modern twist. She was flexible and gives you the option to narrow down to one color or selects a couple for you to consider. She was also helpful even afterward with questions I had. Very professional as well. thank you Jill. I love the colors!

**Comment from Jill J. Wallace, Color Redesign:**

> Thank you! We worked around the remodel lighting / evening challenges and I'm delighted the color options fit the vision you had pictured for your home!

**★★★★★ — Greg Brown, Oct. 2017**

> Jill was a terrific consultant on my new home build. She helped “pull it all together” in a way that I could never have done. The home build was a real nightmare, but Jill was a rare bright spot in an otherwise chaotic project. She helped pick out the exterior colors, flooring, wall colors, and numerous other small, but important, design decisions. Jill also went above and beyond a number of times towards the end of the build, which was a tremendous help. I've received many compliments on all the items Jill helped with. Overall, I would highly recommend Jill.

**★★★★★ — Rebecca V, Oct. 2017**

> We were having our entire house painted and were having trouble with color selection. We contacted Jill and she was able to come meet with us 2 days after speaking with her. She was able to help us select colors that complemented our house design and remodeling. Jill's help took a big stress off our shoulders. She was very knowledgable and worked with us to pick the best colors for 8 rooms in our home. She was very reasonably priced for her time and help. We are so happy with the finished product. Definitely give her a call if you need color selection help in your home.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Awkward corner fireplace! How to plan around it in an MCM living room** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hi Houzz friends! Just bought a 1942 house in San Francisco with a fireplace in a strange location -- off to the corner, opposite a window and next to a hall doorway in the living room. The living room faces north and gets no direct sunlight, but the window is quite large. We want to get mid-century modern furniture.

Here are the dimensions.
The peaked ceiling is 8 feet tall at its lowest point. We're going to knock down the wall to the right (below) to create an open plan concept, so the kitchen and dining area will be visible.
Here's how one neighbor with a transitional look did it -- is this really the only open to help the room feel open?
Thanks in advance! Note: We're not putting a TV in this room.

A: A medium wall color that will help the ceiling pop, like your neighbors, will help meld in the angle wall of the fireplace. Look into painting the tiles around the fireplace a charcoal or dark bronze.

**Q: Color/pattern for back of shelves?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I cannot decide what color to paint our cherry wood built-in therefore I want to make it more "updated" by putting fabric or paper in the back of the shelves and possibly sides of the shelves. We can paint at some point but at least this could be a good temporary project. What color would you do if the walls are off white ivory (which may not be forever!)

A: Paint it the same white as the kitchen cabinets. Accents can provide color or texture with metals or glass.

**Q: Can we work with these blue bathroom tiles?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have "if you give a mouse a cookie" syndrome and are gradually giving our entire home a face lift. We decided to replace the vanity, but then thought the toilet would be easy to replace. And... If the vanity and toilet are out, we might as well do the floors (shutters, vanity light, and mirror are on their way out, too). Help us from going further down the rabbit hole. Can we keep the tiles and shower doors as they are! All advice appreciated and I am not easily offended :)

A: You can most definitely keep the blue tiles. Try an off white like Benjamin Moore Palest Pistachio or Crystalline to create a seamless visual transition. Keeping the lower wall a more crisp white will help the subtle blue of the upper wall show the tint of color. There are LVT , luxury vinyl tile, that are waterproof and if the current grout can be leveled to the tile it can be properly installed over the current tile floor, allowing for a stone or wood look; or you can remove the current floor and install on a subfloor. The LVT does not require cement board and has a lower install price point. The floor plank or tile size could be larger too; small rooms don't have to have small tiles.
The new vanity and counter top will play into the flooring choice. Some medicine cabinets can be recessed into the wall so you have storage but it looks more like just a mirror.
A frameless shower glass will update the current glass. There are updated privacy glass styles available too, with the close proximity of the toilet and sink.
A project is official with the rabbit hole possibility :-0 Great job to weigh options to maintain the amount of spiral!

**Q: NEW DRYWALL, NEED WALL COLOR ADVICE** *(in Design Dilemma)*

New drywall in living and dining room and trying to decide on a wall color. Crown moulding isn't up yet but we plan on adding crown in both rooms. Ceilings are 8' 5". Two colors we like as of right now are BM Filtered Sunlight and BM Provence Creme. The carpet is being torn up as well, so don't base color picks on carpet, but feel free to give carpet suggestions as well as wall color suggestions :) Thanks in advance.

A: Color selection can seem like the chicken or the egg dilemma. The two yellows you have narrowed down are buttery yellow, not too beige and not highlighter yellow. The previous comments hold good precautions. Wet samples painted on poster or wall board will let you move the color to the lightest and most shadowed walls and portable to the carpet store. Lighting could change the amount of yellow you see and the carpet will definately effect the end result.
If you can, pull the old carpet back so it doesn't influence the carpet sample. With the paint color sample board you can lean it against the wall (don't lay it flat on the carpet, walls won't be horizontal and viewing it laying flat changes the look of the color) and then put the carpet by the color board. It is easier to tweak the paint color than it is carpet, but you may be able to tweak the carpet color within the style you choose or pick a different carpet board. You can take the painted color boards to the carpet store too, just be prepared that the paint color may look different in the retail store than your room. If you know you like the paint color at home, know that even though it looks different at the store you should be able to find a carpet sample that looks good with the paint at the store, and that should translate to being a good sample to take home.
Hope that helps, and I hope it's an easy breezy search with little tweaking.
Post your findings!
Best,
Jill

**Q: what color to paint the walls?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Just bought my first home. Gut renovations on second floor (3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms). Really liked this mosaic tile (silver tradition) Over carrera marble tile. White and gray mosaic herringbone floor. Please help! Tile only halfway up......now what? what color to paint? Same tiles in both bathrooms, only one has a tub,one had a shower.

A: What other colors are going in the other bath and bedrooms? Hallway color? Natural light-little or abundant? Most neutral way to go is to pull a medium gray from the tile; paint the walls and angled ceiling the same color to keep the colors flowing; less choppy if you're in the tub. Grays can go blue, green or purple, so test with a wet sample :0)

**Q: Railing on sitars** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where can i find this railing? I love the spiral of it

A: It does have a soft elegance. The home was finished, so the consulting call was for updating paint colors.
