### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Lois Porter, Nov. 2016**

> TMK has done 2 major projects in my home, bathroom and kitchen. Beautiful and well done! By far of any re-modelers I have used they are the best. Will use again and again

**★★★★★ — Gail Ensdorf, April 2016**

> This was one of my best contractor experiences. Something that drives me really crazy is a contractor that does not show up when he says he will or call to let you know. Ted started and finished the job in a timely manner and was responsive to all my inquiries. He did things by the book (getting all the proper permits) and had good ideas for changes that needed to be made In addition my kitchen came out beautiful and I love it. And when I had a plumbing leak almost a year later, he had someone there within a couple of days to fix it.

> Great estimate given, and very informative. Very helpful and great to deal with and cant wait for the project to begin.

**★★★★ — vergilgunch, Feb. 2014**

> TMK expanded and remodelled my vintage 1900 bathroom. Ted bought some great ideas ot the table and worked to incorporate my vision as well. Quality of work performed was great, worksite always clean and orderly, and communication and documentation was first rate. You'll find guys who have the trades skills but not the business skills-- Ted is strong in both areas, plus he has lined up some really excellent subs to make for trustworthy one stop shopping and an overall painless experience.

**★★★★★ — Dave Fradette, Jan. 2014**

> Ted was extremely organized, communicative, trustworthy and professional from the initial development of the scope of work right through project completion. Ted's positive attitude and demeanor made him very easy and enjoyable to work with. Ted made helpful design recommendations along the way that enhanced the overall value of the project. We are very pleased with the end result and will not hesitate to utilize Ted's services on future projects.

> Full remodel of an existing small master bathroom.
> Outstanding customer service. Held to the original schedule, no surprises or hassles. When a shower door I specified didn't hold up, TMK negotiated with the manufacturer for a new door of higher quality without additional cost. Craftsmanship was of high caliber as well. We hope to use TMK for our future kitchen remodel.

**★★★★★ — Mandy Cochrane, May 2013**

> We hired TMK (Ted Kelley) to work on our kitchen and bathroom projects in our hundred-year old home. From the walk through/ estimate to the completion of the project Ted was thourough, respectful and reliable. We have worked with other contractors and he was by far the most professional.
>
> Ted was very good at communicating our options and walking us through the process for our renovation. He shared his ideas with us but did not pressure us into doing things we did not want to do. He always made sure the house was left clean after he and other contractors were working there.
>
> We highly recommend TMK Remodeling for the professionalism, excellent work and overall customer service.

**★★★★★ — Malcolm Winfield, May 2013**

> We used TMK remodeling for several projects in our home. The first was the renovation of our master bathroom which we were very satisfied with. Ted is highly organized in his approach to these complex projects and he stays on top of details both large and small. He worked with us in an unhurried way and made us feel comfortable before we committed to time, design and materials. For our projects he used a of select few electricians, plumbers and tilers that showed up on time and did excellent work – you would be lucky to find these people on your own if you could. We had our bathroom and basement remodeled and they look fantastic. Ted's knowledge of the pros and cons of various materials, their cost and overall durability was incredibly useful while navigating through some really complicated decisions. One memorable interaction with Ted was showing him a picture of an intricate tile layout from a magazine that we very much liked and seeing him work with his tile guy over the details – it came out just as we wanted. Ted also uses technology in a very creative way to communicate with his clients using digital photos, pdf's, etc. to document and clarify a project as it progresses. We hope he's available when we need him in the future.

**★★★★★ — ayreslarry, April 2013**

> TMK delivered high quality and on budget costs for several projects. Projects ranged from landscaping flag stone front steps; to remodeling a master bath; to small handyman jobs like remodeling a kitchen backsplash. The company is very professional and someone I trust to be in my house while I am working during the week. I plan to hire TMK for future jobs.

**★★★★★ — akp2002, March 2013**

> We first hired TMK remodeling to update our bathroom and Ted did such an excellent job that we had TMK come in the next summer and renovate our kitchen completely. Ted's work is extremely thorough and he is very detail oriented. while doing the renovations he always cleaned up every night and was so unobtrusive there was none of the long term hassles that usually come with a major renovation while living on the premises. He even went to the extreme of setting up a wonderful summer kitchen in our screened in porch that we liked so much we made permanent! Both projects came out wonderfully and we are very proud of them We would recommend TMK remodeling for any job big or small as he has done may 1 day jobs for us since. TMK is a go to company for any work inside out in the house.

**★★★★★ — Rachel Clancy Design, March 2013**

> I am a professional designer who has worked with Ted and his clients on numerous jobs. He is always professional and meticulous, has fair pricing and estimates, hires top subcontractors, and keeps to his schedule that is outlined on paper. No guess work or surprises. He remodeled a full and a half bath for us, and did fantastic job! See half bath on his profile page.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Powder Room Renovation** *(in Remodeling)*

I am having the hardest time deciding whether or not to install a vanity or pedestal sink in my powder room. I would also like to put a tile accent wall behind the sink. Would white tile look boring behind a white pedestal sink? I haven’t even thought about the floor yet! I want it to be timeless as it is taking me 20 years to do now. Thanks!! Would love to see photos too.

A: Another photo of cut stone on wood stand w/ exposed plumbing:

**Q: Fireplace is super ugly** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I don't know where to start. This is the fireplace. It will need a new gas insert, but I am not in a position to do that at this time. In the meantime, the stone is nasty. The previous owner painted black in the grout areas, dripped white paint everywhere, and installed beautiful new wood floors around a slab of more nasty stone. (Which doesn't fit, there are gaps). I'd love some fairly inexpensive ideas to make this less gross until I can afford a complete re-do. Also, I'm not really into the rustic look, points if you can think of a way to make it look more traditional!

A: Demo the stone veneer and see what you have underneath. I'm betting the firebox is a typical rectangle (not arched). If it's the original brick in decent shape, then you could try to restore it. Otherwise install tile or granite/blue stone over it. If you don't wan't to mess with the floor, then overlay a 3/4" piece to match the new finish. Possibly can re-use the mantel or fabricate a new one. There are plenty of mantle kits with side pieces if you're interested in that look. https://www.mantelsdirect.com/fireplacemantelslp-new.html

**Q: Help needed with covering broken concrete slab** *(in Landscape Design)*

Hey! So we have this broken concrete slab under the patio door and I would love to hear any ideas I could use to cover it with some material or perhaps ‘fix it’ myself if possible?
(Also planning to paint the doors black or ruby red).
Appreciate all ideas!

A: Its really hard to tell from that picture what is actually going on. I agree that the piece under the operating panel appears to be tacked on to the original foundation to provide 'support' for the door threshold. It also looks like the wood decking is scabbed in several pieces. I would suggest removing the deck boards and get a closer look at it. Perhaps you can remove what is there and build up support for that threshold from the deck framing in PT stock with a PVC veneer, then cut deck boards in around this. Silicone the joint (empty a new tube) between your new frame and the underside of the door threshold. Good luck with the repair.

**Q: fireplace idea, looking at black hexagon.** *(in Polls)*

We want a black hexagon tile, where the terra-cotta tile is now. I posted pictures of the area. (Sorry for the mess, quarantine, both working from home and a 2 year old)
Would you do the black hexagon and a black/dark gray grout or do something else.
(Might eventually paint the bronze to a black)

A: Would suggest a single piece of granite or bluestone vs tile.

**Q: Bad Seam, need opinions** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Just had fantasy brown installed and this seam and flow look terrible. Opinions?

\*\*\*\*\*Edit to add, we purchased 4 slabs \*\*\*\*

A: You could ask the supplier if they have another slab from the same lot that would match the grain of the installed piece better. Expect to pay for the labor and material to replace that piece if you signed off on the original material and template.

**Q: master bath renovation** *(in Design Dilemma)*

i'd love to get rid of tub but then what? to the left is a small toilet/ shower area. to the right off screen is master walk in. i know i need a new larger shower and larger area for toilet as well. in addition i need more storage. do i need to take out the windows. how much do you think it would cost?

A: I would work with a local pro to document the existing conditions and come up with a couple of schemes showing options for the layout. If you want to relocate the walk-in shower into the tub area, you can include a window made from glass block in a vinyl frame and they are stunning. You can size them to fit most openings and tile them right in. We have installed several and they allow 90% of the light to come through and are completely private. Here are some examples:
