**Q: Should we extend our living/dinning area to the terrace?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

we just bought an old house that needs total remodelling. It has a large living/dining area that opens to a terrace and extraordinary garden. One of the architects we consulted suggested expanding this room to the terrace. We dont' have many social events except for birhtdays and Christmas parties when the whole family gathers(about 30 people).  Another architect suggests not expanding at all. We would like to do what looks better on the house and would also work for large parties. I am enclosing pictures of how it looks right now. Any advice?

A: There are a few things to consider if you are wanting to do a "room addition" on this space. 
Cost factors: tree and root removal, the wall of glass that will need to be removed and re-supported and, a whole lot of engineering with that flat roof! Establish a budget before you have any drawings done, it might be very expensive depending on where you live and the building codes.

**Q: Quartz or granite????** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am remodeling my small kitchen. What are the pros and cons of both please? If you have either one, I would really appreciate your insight! Thank you!

A: Granite is sealed naturally by the polishing process, there is no need to seal it. If you are paying for sealing, you wasted your money. We are tile and granite licensed/fabricators and we never seal our granite. Quartz is more trendy and costs more than granite. You will not have the natural movement in quartz like granite nor the character, i.e. mica flakes or patterns. This picture is of granite.

**Q: Kitchen Renovation - Help! My Kitchen has four entryways** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Looking to redesign my kitchen. Current layout is too spread out and it also requires a lot of cuts for the granite. Ideally we would like something that uses the space better. Open layout is fine but we need to keep supporting beams at corners. The orange squares are parts where the wall does not reach the ceiling (you can see through). It's about 8 inches above the countertop. Also stove would be difficult to move but the sink can probably be moved. Thanks!

A: You definitely have a difficult kitchen layout with all of those counters. My advise is to have a professional kitchen designer help with the layout. If you are in the Southern California area, we have some ideas to completely rework your kitchen. Not knowing your budget, it is hard to suggest moving the entire contents of your kitchen around. With our experience, to make this kitchen function correctly, you should think about moving the refrigerator first. It is the largest and hardest appliance to work around with   your open concept floor plan.
